    Wonderful Ending to the Series
FEARLESS is the third book in the Complicated Creatures series. IMHO, you really need to have read the previous two books ("Complicated Creatures" and "Hell or High Water") to get the full impact of this one.
First, there is the final confrontation between Samantha and her team against the Bad Guy.
Second, there is the resolution of Samantha's complicated love life. Which man will win her heart, Roman or Wesley?
I didn't think Ms. Lawless could possible come up with a satisfactory ending, but she did. Now I have to go back to the first book and listen again.
(I received a free copy of this book from the author, and this is my honest opinion.)
    Wonderful series
Some over-the-top scenarios go on throughout this series, but if you can suspend reality for those times, these three books are filled with great characters that actually grow and develop. They act, speak, feel and hurt like real people and that's what makes this a must listen trilogy.

Quirky characters and an unusual story line
What did you love best about Crimson Lake?
I loved the diversity of characters and the original story line. So much of it was unexpected which make it a compulsive read. Loved every bit of it
What was one of the most memorable moments of Crimson Lake?
I loved the goose story line but also the awful repercussions of being wrongly accused and the havoc it wreaks with your life.
What does Lani Tupu bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
IF I am honest I find I get a totally different experience when listening to audible books against reading myself. I stopped participating in my Book Club as it felt like I was reading a totally different book. The reading was compulsive and I could not put it down.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Absolutely
    Any additional comments?
Passed it on and without exception it has been enjoyed
Gripping if grisly tale, read too emphatically
Would you try another book written by Candice Fox or narrated by Lani Tupu?
Yes, for another book by Fox, after a break. No, for this reader who reads everything 'big', with no light or shade.
Would you recommend Crimson Lake to your friends? Why or why not?
I would tell them this is a pretty grisly tale, with nearly all characters quite nasty - yet it is gripping. So I would tell them if they are in the mood for this kind of story, do read it.
What aspect of Lani Tupus performance might you have changed?
Lani Tupu has a fine bass voice, and good grasp of the material he is reading, but I found him rather exhausting to listen to. He does not lighten up anywhere, even when describing ordinary things like scenery - he gives everything a tone of urgency, almost hysteria, which doesn't seem to fit with the tough ex-policeman, the narrator, at least not all the time. The effect, as in any narration or movie on one note, is that we don't take it seriously. I have listened to lots of book readings, indeed used to produce them. Without variation in tone, speed and colour, they can become rather tedious. This is the trap into which Tupu has fallen, in my opinion.

Excellent Horror / Family Drama Tale
Would you listen to The Secret Life of Souls again? Why?
Yes It was a short sweet listen that will be easy for me to pick up again.
    Any additional comments?
I've Read numerous books by Ketchum and have really enjoyed them. Particularly his novels that are more grounded in real life, like Red and The Girl Next Door. The Secret Life of Souls pulls a lot of the same strings. Not at all as brutal as some of Ketchum's writings but there are a few scenes that lay it all out there and they seam all the more horrific because the characters feel so real.
Miss Turner does an excellent job narrating the tale.
Delia and her dog Catie are fantastic. I Highly recommend this listen to horror lovers, drama lovers, or just dog lovers.
    Annoying characters
I was looking forward to this book after reading the summary, but it didn't live up to the expectation. The characters are one dimensional and missing detail that could make them more real. Also, the storyline was easily anticipated.
I have truly become a Jack Ketchum and Lucky Mckee fan!
This book shows the tremendous range of Jack Ketchum and Lucky McKee. I read there first collaboration "The Woman", which I absolutely loved, but in a very different way. That book speaks to the horror, gore fanatic in me.
"The Secret Life of Souls" has some elements of horror for sure, but for the most part it's just a beautiful story about a dysfunctional family. The parents are incredibly self involved, the brother resentful, the daughter and her dog always trying to please and then tragedy strikes * NO SPOILERS*.
    I highly recommend this book!
    Hated It!
The reason I hated this story is because I was not expecting the tone. It caught me off guard. It was a horror story disguised as a family novel. And yes, I hated it!
    Not what I expected...
I am a dog lover, and there are many things about this book that I appreciate. There are violent moments towards the dog that was upsetting that ruined it for me.

Liked the first book in series better
This second book in the series grabs you from the first chapter and I really enjoyed it. I Ike that all the characters are flawed in some way.
    Cons
Jake is great but what type of person is he to collect info on all the townspeople, put it on an encrypted drive, keep a copy in the safety deposit box at the bank and a copy in his wall safe??? he does favors for the town, sounds like a mob boss. he was able to get info on the ADA? His character is becoming too Alpha and I'm afraid he won't be believable. 4 dead girls but the task team consist of 1 lawyer, a psychologist, an FBI agent and a civilian?
Also I like how tough and strong Aubrey and Jake are the fight Aubrey had with the brother awesome! but I don't like that Aubrey plays vigilante with Jake to catch these criminals. Like the cops or FBI are just stupid. Hopefully in future books it won't be this way.

Say No More: the thrilling next installment in Hank Phillippi Ryan's award-winning Jane Ryland series!

However, a disturbing anonymous message - "SAY NO MORE" - has Jane really and truly scared.

Strong performance to match the writing
This is my first Hank Phillippi Ryan listen/read and I was mostly pleased with how she wove the narrative through characters compelling enough to follow carefully. It certainly helped that I live in Boston. Xe Sands did an admirable job with the male voices given her vocal range and was terrific with the female voices of all ages. Well done x 2.
    Unbearably Horrible Narrator
The narrator was so awful I had to quit during chapter 2. The voice was droning, faded in and out and never changed for any character. Unbearable.

    AND LONG ROAD TO NOTHING
I waited and waited for something in this book to excite me or at the very least to wake me up. The one good thing was, it was a short read/listen. I can't say it was an awful story it just had no depth or meaning to it and very predictable. The narrator wasn't bad at all I enjoyed other books read by Rawlins. Wish I could rate higher but I rely on honest reviews given by others when making my book selection so I owe them the same.
    unusual
just two characters, well written and narrated kept to the plot which was quite simple.
    A dark but compelling read
I bought this book on Audible as I had listened to the first episode on Radio 4's Book at Bedtime and decided that I wanted to have whole thing unabridged.
If I had read this book rather than listened to it I would have described it as a page-turner and I found it compelling right from the start. I very much enjoyed the author's style and the tense atmosphere she creates as the narrative unfolds.
That said, in retrospect, I think this might have worked better for me if it had been abridged or as a shorter novella as there are parts, especially the climax, which are just a bit too drawn out. There was also a number of issues which I simply didn't understand. Why was she so instantly in this man's thrall? Why did she have no apparent connection to the life she had just walked away from?
For my money I would have liked a narration which was more 'read' than 'acted'. I don't need different accents/voices. But I suppose that's just my personal opinion.
    Just so dull
Couldn't finish. Dull and the narrator was ok except when doing accents- she should have just read it instead of acting it.....the voice of the man and indeed any other character just felt phoney. Getting my money back.
    Claustrophobic tale of obsessive love
With her life in ruins after a scandal that wrecked her marriage and cost her her job, historian and TV presenter Allis Hagtorn leaves it all behind and takes on the position as housekeeper for 44-year-old Sigurd Bagge, a mysterious reclusive man living in a small cottage in the rugged Norwegian countryside. Far from town and without transport except a bicycle at her disposal, Allis throws herself into the housekeeping and gardening chores expected of her whilst Bagges wife is away. But when time goes by and the woman fails to materialise, Allis slowly falls more and more under her employers spell, trying to appease his labile moods. What follows is an account of a dysfunctional and somewhat obsessive love affair, its claustrophobic atmosphere enhanced by the remote setting and a sense of menace and danger always hovering in the background.

Group of retired friends take their trailers to a familiar campground and get involved in a murder investigation. All of the characters are totally believable, and so are their interactions. The weaving of the background of those who become the victims is not seamless, but it works anyway. It was good, and the length was perfect!
I have the audio version, and Michelle Babb is perfect in portraying each character and the narratives.

RVing is not for the Faint of Heart
Where does Peete and Repeat rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Is it Shakespeare? Is it Michael Connelly? No, it isn't... but, that's not a bad thing! This is well plotted, with characters that you become very fond of throughout the outstanding series. Mystery that itches to be solved. Settings and circumstances that call out to me, anyway.
What other book might you compare Peete and Repeat to and why?
The other books in the Frannie Shoemaker series.
What about Michelle Babbs performance did you like?
Michelle appropriately keeps the story and characters moving. I can visualize the action taking place. Her voice work adds to and doesn't detract from a listener's enjoyment.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Fishing pole, check... camping stove, check... body bags, check...
    Any additional comments?
I have many of this series on my Kindle as e books. The audio versions are all well done and my suggestion is, if you enjoy light mysteries, to check this series out.

    Publisher's Summary:
Curious Minds by number one best-selling author Janet Evanovich and screenwriter Phoef Sutton is a gripping thriller for fans of the Stephanie Plum mysteries including One for the Money and Tricky Twenty-Two.
They couldn't be less compatible, but they make a great team....
Emerson Knight is introverted and eccentric and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he's also brilliant, rich and (some people might say) handsome.
Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard. Her assertive (some people might say aggressive) spitfire attitude has helped her land a dream job at Blane-Grunwald bank. At least Riley Moon thinks it's her dream job until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.
An inquiry about missing Knight money leads to a missing man, missing gold and a life-and-death race across the country. Through the streets of Washington, DC, and down into the underground vault of the Federal Reserve in New York City, an evil plan is exposed - a plan so sinister that only a megalomaniac could think it up, and only the unlikely duo of the irrepressibly charming Emerson Knight and the tenacious Riley Moon could hope to stop it....
    Members Reviews:
A New series I can get behind.
Would you listen to Curious Minds again? Why?
I have loved the Stephanie Plum books since I first discovered them and wait eagerly for each new one but I could not take to the FBI agent/crook series at all but I loved the Metrosexual/NASCA series. I thought I would try this book and see how it went. I loved it, for me, it was the best thing she/they have done so far.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Emmerson was my favourite character of course. His hopelessly clueless cleverness is very entertaining and endearing. I also like the aunt who was in her vernacular 'a pistol'.
Have you listened to any of Lorelei Kings other performances? How does this one compare?
I love Lorelei King's voice and her style of rendering the books she narrates. This is well up to her very high standards.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The conversation between Emmerson and Vernon regarding Willy the Zebra had me laughing and going aww...
    Any additional comments?
I have already checked out the publication date on the next book in this series which I guess is a good indication of my level of enjoyment.
    A great new series
I love Stephanie Plum and thought I would try this. It's great fun, laugh out loud moments and characters that you want to follow.
    Well done Janet and Phoef.
    Narrator sounds like a robot
The narrator constantly fails to put the right emphasis on the right words which completely breaks any existing atmosphere. On top of the is her male characters better than her female ones.
The writing didn't really make up for the horrible narrator so I had to return this one.
    fun
great to listening . took a bit to get into but once in it rollocked along.

    Exciting sexy story
Fast paced, and different look at Hawker. This man has it all going but bad luck with love. Stick to the love and leave um, theory. Great action story with twists.
