Well, we have hit episode number 100 and what better to celebrate than to have a superstar of swimming join us on Torpedo Swimtalk Podcast this week, none other than Michael Klim. Gosh we enjoyed this chat!

Of course we spoke about his accomplishments, among them - 2 Olympic Gold Medals, 7 World Championships, 5 Commonwealth Gold Medals and an unbelievable 21 World Records, 3 of which were in the 100m Butterfly!

We covered Michael being coached and mentored by the legendary Gennadi Touretsky; the kind of training completed during that time and even the freestyle drill that changed his career (45:10) You may want to hear all about that!

More broadly, Michael shared some health issues he is experiencing with us and how the diagnosis of CIDP has changed his life, but also brought him back to his swimming roots. He is inspiring countless others with CIDP to get active and move, by sharing his journey.

Ryan Pini joins the pod to chat about his swimming journey. He has certainly reached those heights, as a 4 time Olympian and more recently as a dual Masters Swimming WR holder.

We discussed Ryan's journey from the pinnacle of Commonwealth Gold in 2006 and an Olympic final in Beijing in 2008, to his current role as Chef de Mission for PNG for Paris 2024; how he finds time to swim these days and his hope for a masters swimming exposure and opportunity for swimmers in the Oceania region.

He also shares a great set, that can do done in any stroke, and works the back end portion of your race.

We go in depth into how he structures his sessions and caters for swimmers of different levels; we chat about how coaches can make sessions appealing to swimmers new to masters swimming and what makes the master swim community so special.

You have to be pretty committed to swim in the dark and fog for 21 miles in the Catalina Channel and today's Torpedo Swimtalk Podcast guest Sabrina Houston is just that!

Sabrina has spent her life in and around the water, first in the pool, then as an IRONMAN triathlon competitor and now as a marathon distance swimmer, who has completed 2/3 of the Triple Crown.  She also squeezes in time as a masters swimmer and coach in San Diego, California, as well as juggling being a new mum.

We spoke about the intricacies of training and swimming marathon distances, both the successes, hurdles and disappointments.  Sabrina's English Channel attempt was called off due to inclement weather conditions, and we chatted how she coped with that mentally and how she will attempt the crossing another day. I have no doubt she will be successful!

Sabrina explained how she helped co-found the Oceanside Masters Swim Club, what masters swimming means to her and why being part of the masters swimming community is the right fit for all adult swimmers.

"Swimming is my life" says passionate Masters Swimmer Hoda ElRidi and that passion is certainly evident in our chat on this episode of Torpedo Swimtalk Podcast

Hoda hails from Cairo, Egypt where she fits her masters swimming training and competing around a busy profession as an electrical engineer at a petroleum company. How does she juggle that work life balance?

We chatted about Hoda's training; her joy in competing internationally; what masters swimming is like in Egypt and her involvement in helping setting it up.

"What about open water swimming in Egypt", I ask. "Well we do have The Red Sea .....", she explains.  Now that is a pretty impressive location for a swim!

Egypt is one of the 76 countries the podcast is listened too, and it has been a joy to bring Hoda's story to you for this episode, once again proving that our swimming community is worldwide and all involved in this great sport love it.
