Tranos & the Lived Experience

Tranos returns from a brief hiatus to snap her powerful fingers and freeze cis people for a day. What do Kamryn, her demigirl sister Tracy and producer Bee (featuing special cis voice Andrew) think they do on a day where there aren’t any cis people around to wreck their vibes?

They discuss the barriers they encounter in everyday life, the disparities between the space available to trans people vs the space available to cis people and compare Rochester-area malls.

On March 23, 2020, Rochester Police detained Daniel Prude in the midst of a mental illness episode. Officer Mark Vaughn pressed his body weight on the prone Prude until he asphyxiated to the point of brain death. Prude was taken off life support a week later. Tranos discusses with her siblings Andrew and Tracy the impact this killing had on Rochester in 2020 and how it reflects the nationwide and wordwide problems of police battering and killing civilians.

This week producer Bee joins Kamryn for an extra thick episode of Tranos & The Lived Experience. They discuss Black whimsy and the barriers that separate Black people from frivolous enjoyment of popular media.

They spend a lot of time talking about which cartoon characters they understood as kids to be metatextually Black like Piccolo, Bugs Bunny and Skeeter.

And they brainstorm properties and media in the world already that work to dismantle white supremacy and gatekeeping in the industries they belong to.

Tranos has a history lesson for you. Kamryn examines the way society molded white femininity into a weapon against people of all colors and genders. She examines incidents like the murder of Emmett Till and the viral incident of Christian Cooper, the Black birder and comic book writer who was accosted by a white woman in Central Park because her dog was off its leash. She even shares a surreal and horrific example from her own life that matches these stories of white women attempting- and sometimes succeeding- to imagine a threat into existence for police to attack.

Kamryn regails Rob Sweet with the tale of how her mother returned from a year of rehab in the 90s possessed with the Spirit of Christ. The spirit inspired her to drag a baby Tranos onto two different sensationalist daytime TV shows to publicly discuss potential repentance. Tranos answers questions like do fae folk got good weed and is Ricki Lake cool or not?

Tranos explains her spiritual connection to the world, the ways relatively recent developments in the world challenged that and how she withstood those challenges.

Tranos is back on the mic with NQO producer Bee, and they dissect all the heartless apologies they’re asked to accept from bigots, rapists and other devils. Famous people of all sorts get caught doing things nobody should be doing and ask forgiveness but lash out even further when their apologies aren’t accepted. Regular people become famous for doing the same things and beg to go back to the lives they had before they assaulted somebody in the street. Kamryn and Bee reflect on a future where people with skin in the game refuse to accept apologies from transgressors who haven’t put in the work.

This week, Kamryn takes us on a deep dive of the celestial, alienating experience of transness in a cis-centeric society. She explains how she navigates passing, her willingness to put up with being clocked and how she forces the world to make space for her.
