This week's edition of TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #359) has new songs from RAVI SHANKAR'S posthumous opera, 'Sukanya,' THE RESIDENTS 'Intruders' and SUDAN ARCHIVES 'Athena' releases, CALIFONE'S first release in seven years, and a track from 808 STATE'S long awaited 'Transmission Suite' as well as another spectacular effort from LES AMAZONES D'AFRIQUE all scattered throughout today's three hour show.

There's plenty of 'covers' added to the mix including two versions of 'Wimoweh' (one by MANU DIBANGO with Lady Smith Mambazo's late founder JOSEPH SHAMBALALA and the other by BRIAN ENO), a BEATLES 'Revolver' track covered by LUKE TEMPLE, THE FLYING LIZARDS interpreting 'And Then He Kissed Me,' and two MOSE ALLISON pieces from two polar opposites, IGGY POP and THE WHO.

You're probably wondering what's in store on the latest TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #358) as I prepare to release another weekly program? Well there's plenty of new releases, old friends from the 'vault,' an homage to several artists who've departed us, and a quirky set or two lined up in my latest program. Here's a brief synopsis of what to expect.

The first set begins with the latest from TANGERINE DREAM, then follows with another new track from MILOS (covering Portishead), then PETER HAMMILL, PAT METHENY (honoring our first legacy remembrance of his keyboard player, Lyle Mays), a remastered cut by THE SLITS, some early PINK FLOYD, and finishes with the ultimate modern psychedelic warriors, THE DUKES OF STRATOSPHEAR.

OZRIC TENTACLES and THE BEYONDERERS anchor the second set, with new songs from the Malawi band, CODE SANGALA, Algerian songstress SOUAD MASSI, and an acapella version of 'Rocky Raccoon' by THE PERSUASIONS. By the third set things get a little quirky with musical selections from DAVID THOMAS, SLAPP HAPPY/HENRY COW, ROBBIE FULKS (singing Mose Allison), JOHN HARTFORD (yodeling), and THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION (from Uncle Meat).

Milestones and kidney stones, I've had them all (and I'll take milestones every time over those other painful ones) so on this week's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #357) I'll celebrate the former as I've reached the 400th broadcast overall since returning to radio in 2012. During 2012 I was lured back into radio (having been a broadcaster during the mid-70's at Kent State's WKSU-FM) by a friend working at San Francisco internet radio station KUSF-in-Exile run by former DJ's of the bay area's legendary KUSF. I produced 43 episodes under two previous names before settling on 'Transmusic Airwaves' in March 2013.

So today I'll celebrate this achievement with plenty of 'vault' selections, new tracks, occasional 'covers,' and unusual themes. It all begins with the SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND mainstay, 'The Faith Healer,' in a set which includes music from WILCO, ANGELIQUE KIDJO, KING CRIMSON, THE WEST COAST POP ART EXPERIMENTAL BAND, and JIM WHITE.

Next up there a song and a comedy cut about whales from CROSBY & NASH and NATIONAL LAMPOON, a DAEVID ALLEN rare piece with RALPH CARNEY and MARS WILLIAMS, and later BRIAN ENO & JOHN CALE'S 'Spinning Away,' blended in with HOLGAR CZUKAY, ALLEN RAVENSTINE, and the VIOLENT FEMMES cover of a Jetson's classic.

It all leads up to an homage to Cleveland TV legend GHOULARDI featuring a rant or two from his Shock Theater days, and music from DARK SHADOWS, two versions of 'Rosemary's Baby' (by BRAVE COMBO and MICHAEL URBANIAK), with other relatable music from THE RESIDENTS, WENDY CARLOS, and the WHITE NOISE.

This week on TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #356) I've got plenty of cool music to interest your ears including the 'World Premiere' of the song “Hazor,' done by GOLEMS OF THE RED PLANET, a band of local musicians dedicated to exploring John Zorn's 'Masada' songbook. The band comprised of Harvey Gold (guitar), Mark Allender (bass), Bob Ethington (drums), and Matt Reese (cello) has graciously given me a copy of their new track which I'll air during the final set of today's show.. It's a killer piece folks, and fits well along side the Nordic electronica/folk band VALRAVN, NENEH CHERRY, and Algerian Berber songstress SOUAD MASSI.

I can't believe how quickly the first month of this year has flown by. It's been one giant blur to me as I look back at the past thirty days but as this year progresses, there's plenty to celebrate. As yet another year begins I find myself a year older, and although the 'wiser' part seems to become less of a factor, more determined to enjoy my life a little bit more. There's plenty of resolutions I'm prepared to break, plenty of 'plant based meat like' products I'm likely to avoid, and plenty of great music I hope to continue to discover, re-discover, and play. This week I'll explore more of the later on another TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #352), my weekly foray into the realm of 'freeform' radio that I've been noodling with for nearly eight years.

Pouring over my many sources for great music, I discovered several artists that piqued my interest this week. It's hard to believe how much faster time races by as I get older. Another year is drawing to a close and as I prepare this year's TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (Episode #350), I can only hope for better days ahead. Today's program is my 'Best Of 2019' special, and it marks the eighth time I've looked back at my favorite releases over twelve months.

You can expect a variety of eclectic selections that really resonated with me again this year. There's plenty of music from Ohio bred artists including PERE UBU, THE HI-FI'S, FANCY LEGS, THE BLACK KEYS, CHRISSIE HYNDE (with the VALVE BONE WOE ENSEMBLE), DETENTION, THE BEYONERERS, GUIDED BY VOICES, and the late PETER LAUGHNER.

Internationally I was blown away by Congo's KOKOKO!, Mali's TINARIWEN and BASSEKOU KOUYATE & NGONI BA, Netherlands ALTIN GUN, Estonia's MARI KALKUN, as well as ANGLEIQUE KIDJO and the collective of musicians comprising the AFRICA SPEAKS project.

Profound musical statements were offered from IGGY POP, VIOLENT FEMMES, SWANS, PIXIES, OH SEES, JESCA HOOP, NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE, RHIANNON GIDDENS (with FRANCESCO TURRISI), and WILCO. In fact, there was so much extraordinary music released this year, I will likely have to use more time in the show that will follow this one to get to it all.
