Treks and the City

This week, Alice and Skyler shout out their first "Fashion Intruder"-level Patreon subscriber WITH reverb before diving into Redditors' posting histories, not cutting something in post, getting hair done, interesting hair developments across the DS9 cast this season thus far, the size of red, molecule-wise, what the hell's going on with Skyler's apartment hunt since last week (which was recorded only moments before this week's episode), and more. Behind the paywall, they get into DS9 season four, episode three, "The Visitor," which... absolutely rocks. Topics include the great, recently departed Tony Todd, finding where your heroes live and paying them an uninvited visit, Sisko's latest sing-song-y line delivery, some parallels between the arming of the station and The Expanse (around 45 minutes in, be warned, should you want to know nothing about... those parallels), the wonders of Interstellar, and? More. Listen!!

This week, Alice and Skyler discuss being boring, Alice's parents enjoying Canadian sushi, Zac Efron's Comtek etiquette, Skyler's slow-going moving process, and more. Behind the paywall, they pick up where they left off last week and discuss the actual meat of the two-part DS9 season four premiere, "The Way of the Warrior," again with Alice's Resident Alien co-star, the great Sara Tomko. Together, they all go deep on just what it is about war that those Klingons love so much, where the episode was refreshingly progressive for its time, where it wasn't, Klingon spa days, Sisko's sing-song-y ways, whether or not he deserved his big kiss this episode, Worf going bro-mode for information, and more. Listen to the whole thing!!

This week, Alice and Skyler are joined by the great Sara Tomko, Alice's dear friend and Resident Alien co-star. Together, they... don't really get into the (pretty great) DS9 season four premiere, "The Way of the Warrior," because, much like the premiere... this one's a two-parter. Before the paywall, they talk the color of creeps' money, sound effects websites, marketing ideas for La Croix, Alice's crow trap, and much, much more. Behind the paywall, they... also don't get that far into the feature-length premiere, but they do get into Odo's whole deal, which alien species they'd all most like to play, Worf's developing love life, ASMR, the degree to which The Dominion's big goo pool is not not like the Olympic Village, if the worm in a bottle of tequila's a prize, and, yet again, much, much more.

This week, Alice and Skyler discuss Victorian breathing, the work of Jane Austen, whether or not "WAP" will be a future generation's Pride and Prejudice, the brainrot of novels, and more. Behind the paywall, they go long on the DS9 season three finale, episode 26, "The Adversary," which includes a bunch of homages to The Thing, a bunch of homages to The Blue Man Group, and at least one changeling absolutely going off. Other topics include the demise of Skype, Giamatti's upcoming Treks role, what... Odo's... job... is..., Sisko's promotion, and the show's biggest listener demo, the current members of the US Navy. Also, please do not get upset with us, Canada didn't have the dongles we expected them to and Alice's track is a little wonky-sounding as a result, BUT IT'S STILL PRETTY GOOD.

This week, Alice and Skyler are joined by the great Danny Solomon and Natalie Anis, Alice's dear friends and a couple very much in love. Together, they all discuss who's actually into Star Trek, where Alice and Skyler usually find their guests, missing Alice's proposal, having a big wedding, Twin Peaks, and much, much more. Behind the paywall, they dive into DS9 S3E25, "Facets," a Dax-centric episode that Alice, in particular, found to be garbage. Other topics include the grossness of Ferengis, how cool it is to hear that root beer survived into the distant future, how this episode is like Adaptation, Sisko's turn as Hannibal Lecter, Odo being grody-o, and much, much more. This week, Alice and Skyler discuss "shoe blindness," a real condition, the difficulties of describing audio out loud, a great Pro Tools Substack that Skyler can't remember the name of, Infinity Nikki, where Veronica is, and so. much. more. Behind the paywall, they dive into DS9's S3E24, "Shakaar," which heavily features darts, explanations of the general concept of "the zone," Kai Winn trying and failing to pull some Bajoran rebel strings, hired goons, and farm equipment. This week, Alice and Skyler are joined once again by the great Paul F. Tompkins to talk about the sheer volume of backdrops available in Zoom now, Dr. Who-vertigo, JOANN's, the clock Treks and the City is now relying heavily on to provide order, who knows the lyrics to "More Than a Woman" best, and more. Behind the paywall, they dive into DS9 S3E23, "Family Business," a Ferengi-forward episode that is frequently gross. It does have Andrea Martin, however, who rocks in it. Other topics include Sisko's love of baseball, what kind of alien everybody would like to see Eugene Levy play, Jake's weird need to get his dad back on the dating scene, small doors, teeth sharpeners, and much, much more. This week, Alice and Skyler debut the NEW episode format, so don't be alarmed over things sounding a bit different. Teasers will now be a bit shorter, they'll be a bit more cold-open-y, they'll be... Really good. You'll see. Together, they talk about Garrett's trip to Canada, bindles, and what they're reading. Behind the paywall, they talk audio-book narrators, getting the Pulitzer house in order, rich guy stuff, and get into the DS9 episode "Explorers," in which Sisko develops a new hobby and Bashir gets all worked up over nothing. This week, Alice, Vero, and Skyler talk about Alice's nine-year-sobriety anniversary, how long this week has been and which sauce it is, the latest from Steven Soderbergh, how everyone's taking the current awful news, spoilers for twenty+ year-old movie The Others, microphone choices, and, frankly? Other things. Behind the paywall, they go deep on the excellent DS9 episode "The Die is Cast," the genuinely fantastic ending to the genuinely boring and dry setup that was the previous episode. Listen!!

This week, Alice, Vero, and Skyler talk the LA wildfires, rolling into the UK entertainment industry like it's Deadwood, the loss of David Lynch, Garrett's fatherly love for the cats growing day by day, swapping smoking for the joys of interval training, and much, much more!
