Eric Hicks was a loving and empathetic soul. He would give you his shirt if you needed it. But when he was murdered the media portrayed him in such a negative light that it made prosecuting his killer extremely difficult. He was murdered in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2017. His killer was arrested but his plea deal felt like a slap in the face to his mother, Lisa.

Coming off of my collaborations with Sarah Turney and Kendall Rae I was very hurt by many of the comments that were being made. I wanted to take some time with Dr. Ashley Wellman and Dr. Jules to discuss the impacts of Domestic Violence and the implications of victim-blaming. Dr. Jules hosts the very popular podcast Riddle Me That please give her a listen. Dr. Wellman is a criminologist and she brings an amazing perspective to this conversation. Please listen to the bonus live recording of my conversation with these two incredible women.

The man that hit her, Cory Foster, has a 20-year history of vehicular crime, including DWI, PI, Fleeing Arrest, Reckless Driving, Speeding; it keeps going, and these are just in Grayson County. Hey everybody, welcome to the latest episode of True Consequences, and the season finale for season three. I really hope that you enjoyed the latest season of True Consequences. It's really been a joy to create. And while the stories have been pretty difficult to cover, I'm grateful for the people who have helped me make this possible. I'd like to start by thanking my son, Kai Landin for helping with the editing. And I'd like to thank all of my sponsors, listeners, patrons, who have made this show possible. But don't worry, I will be back soon with more content for you in season four of true consequences. In the meantime, Dos Spookquenos is going to be back very soon, as well as the third project that I'm working on called great... A laugh at life. It will be my friend Alex and I, again, talking about all the things that make life either great or Maybe not so great. Today's episode is very special. It's a collaboration between myself and a good friend of mine named CJ. CJ is the host of Beyond the Rainbow, true crimes of the LGBT. She does a phenomenal job. And I highly encourage you to listen to her show and subscribe. This episode is about the murder of Zakria Fry. Zakaria was a transgender woman living in Albuquerque, New Mexico who was brutally murdered along with her roommate. The first part of this episode is going to be CJ giving you the case details in a narrative. And the second half is me interviewing Zakaria's sister, Heather, to talk about the murder case and how it's affected their family. Again, I want to thank all of you for making this show possible. You are incredible and I couldn't do it without you. So let's go ahead and get started with CJ from Beyond the Rainbo True Crime.
