This case is technically a murder case but unfortunately the body of the victim has never been found and it happened over 20 years ago. Much of the information I found helpful in researching this case was in the book September Sacrifice by Mark Horner. I highly recommend people pick up Mark’s book if they want a more in-depth look at the case.

Today’s case is an extremely sad and tragic case. This is one that stuck with me in my adolescence and I felt it was important to tell this story because it again illustrates how the state of New Mexico has been struggling with dealing with criminal justice issues for a long time. I keep saying that the issues of criminal justice in New Mexico are not new and this is another example that shows we have never been good at holding repeat offenders accountable for their actions. Jail and prison overcrowding have been constant issues for New Mexico and as a result law makers continue to try to come up with new methods for reducing the inmate population and it seems everything they have tried has only resulted in more crime.

For most people March 3rd 1996 would be a normal Sunday but for the employees of the Hollywood Video Store on San Mateo and Zuni in the Southeast of Albuquerque it was going to be a horrific and bloody night. Today I am taking you through a brutal case that resulted in the death of five innocent victims. This is the case of the Hollywood Video Massacre.

Today we are continuing to look at the very frustrating and difficult case of Robbie Romero. This case has been baffling investigators and family for the last 20 years. When we last spoke, we talked about the various leads the police investigate including the fact that police zeroed in on Robbie’s brother, Ronnie, early in the investigation. We discussed the fact that several psychics came forward and were leading the police in a variety of different paths that led to nowhere. This led to frustration on the part of the family and the community.

Today we are looking at very frustrating and difficult case. This case has been baffling investigators and family for the last 20 years. There have been some recent developments that seemed promising on the face and led to renewed hope. Today I am taking you through the tragic disappearance of 7-year-old Robbie Romero from Santa Fe, NM. This case is especially difficult because it is unsolved. There were so many leads and people identified that it was extremely difficult to know what is relevant and what is not. I am going to try and present you with as much information as possible. Please note that not all of it is relevant. I felt it was important to show you how much information there is and how many false leads there were. It is a lot of detail to digest in one sitting which is why I am breaking this case in two parts. On August 31st,2003 a Las Cruces couple decided to take an afternoon to do some target practice near the foothills in Las Cruces New Mexico. As they were driving around, they noticed a woman lying in the desert. The couple got out of their vehicle to investigate and noticed that the woman was not responsive. They called 911 for assistance. Because this happened outside of the city limits both city and county officers were dispatched to the area near Paseo Del Onate in the foothills. This woman's murder would lead to comprehensive change to the law in 26 states which now require DNA samples to be acquired for any felony conviction. The law is known as Katie's Law.

Billy the kid was one of the most notorious outlaws in the 1800s and his story has been sensationalized and blown out of proportion so I am going to attempt to tell you the story as close to the truth as I can determine. This version of Billy the Kid isn’t as sexy as many listeners are used to so I apologize for that in advance. But like I said his story has been sensationalized and a certain mythos has been created around his life. Henry McCarty was born on November 23rd (according to some) 1859 in New York City, New York. He was raised in poverty in New York with his mom and father. It is believed that he took the now famous alias of William H. Bonney by using the name of his mom’s boyfriend and her maiden name.

Victoria Martens was born on August 23rd, 2006. According to classmates she was a sweet and thoughtful young girl. Victoria lived in Albuquerque with her mom, Michelle Martens and her little brother. Victoria’s story is one of the worst child abuse cases in New Mexico history. He senseless death was absolutely avoidable and should have never happened. She is one of the countless children that the state of New Mexico has forgotten.
