True Hauntings

With 1,000 years of history to its name, Oxford Castle & Prison has seen many people come and go, but some remain long after their first departure… Oxford Castle & Prison was recognised by the BBC as one of the most haunted buildings in the UK.

Paranormal Investigators have made contact with many spirits that haunt the Castle and its grounds. The site has seen conflict and invasions in its early history and then it became a prison which added another layer of misery and torture – if ever there was going to be some residual energy in a place then it’s surely going to be found inside Oxford Castle.

Just a few days before this podcast was released we visited Oxford Castle and got to take part in a ghost hunt from 10pm to 3am.

There were a few areas opened to us including some of the cells, the crypt, the mound in the Castle grounds where the first timber building stood and an upstairs area where prisoners were kept standing in their on bodily fluids.

The night was a unique opportunity to take part in an investigation rather than leading one.

We had activity in the area under the mound where there was a well and also in the area of both the crypt with a very strong ouija board session in the last twenty minutes of the evening and also in the area of the old cell block.

We totally recommend a visit to Oxford Castle.

Looming over the landscape and perched atop a steep promontory above the confluence of the Vltava and Otava rivers in the Czech Republic, is the magnificent castle called Zvíkov. Originally started as a rather small structure, over the centuries it was expanded to become the massive heavily fortified behemoth it is is now, and it is often called the “King of Czech Castles.”

Surrounded by a sweeping vista as it is, and often listed as among the most beautiful castles in Europe, Zvikov is renowned as being an important early-gothic structure, as well as for its soaring towers and elaborate, extensive mural decorations in the Chapel of St. Wenceslaus, a structure which itself is a masterpieces of early-gothic Czech architecture.

It is a popular tourist attraction in its native land, and it also has a long, often tumultuous history, as well as supernatural tales of a demonic imp.

In this episode of the True Hauntings podcast we explore the corridors of this haunted Castle to find all types of spirits and even an imp that has been experienced within Zvikov. We had the chance to explore this place when we visited Germany and Czech Republic with Dave Schrader and Mysterious Adventures last year and this place is unreal.

In the heart of Oakham Rutland - lies an abandoned jail that was known by the name of Her Majesty’s Prison’ Ashwell. It first opened it’s doors in 1955 as an open men's prison that was built on the site of a former World War Two US Army base - home to part of the 82nd Airborne Division.

Ashwell Prison has been home to many criminals, and like other penal establishments it has witnessed plenty of negative emotions, violence and deaths. The prison is said to be plagued by strange sounds, shadows are seen moving across derelict rooms and footsteps are said to follow the unsuspecting visitor.

There have also been many reports of dark shadowy figures throughout the prison buildings and in its grounds, and visitors say they have felt like they're being pushed out of cell doors, as though the former inmate doesn’t want them invading his space.

We look into the stories of Ashwell Prison before we too spend a night alone within the walls of the Jail in March. Look out for our lives on our social pages coming up in just a few weeks as we head to Ireland and the UK for the whole month of March.

In 1924, the pretty wife of a distinguished Boston surgeon came to embody a raging national debate over the values of the Spiritualism movement which was devoted to communication with the dead.

Newspapers dubbed her the blonde Witch of Lime Street, but she was known to her followers simply as Margery.

Down a small, sleepy lane, and not far from Upper Dicker, Arlington Reservoir and Hailsham is stunning Michelham Priory.

This is a 13th Century Priory that stands on a private island.

This priory is the site of deaths, murders and destruction and was looted of its ornaments and valuables at the time of King Henry 8th.

Although it has seen many different eras and had many different purposes one thing is for sure – the ghosts of the past still remain and as are active as ever.

In this week’s episode of the True Hauntings Podcast we explore the many ghostly sightings and experiences that still haunt the Priory – The now famous English ghost hunting show – Most Haunted concluded their first series with an investigation of Michelham Priory on 17 September 2002, which was coincidentally the first episode to be produced.

In the eighth series the team revisited this location to mark the 100th episode.

KUBUR KASSIM GRAVEYARD DATES BACK to the early 19th century and has served as a burial ground for generations of Muslims in Singapore.

There’s a house that sits right on the Hudson River in the small village of Nyack that actually has legal proof that it’s haunted.

Thanks to the “Ghostbusters Ruling”, this home has been declared legally haunted by the state of New York.

This beautiful home doesn’t look like your typical Hollywood haunted Mansion – it’s not scary in the least; Instead, it is a beautifully elegant and well maintained 130 year old mansion that has been bought and sold many times many times since the story about the haunted building first appeared in the Readers Digest 30 years ago.

Duckett’s Grove is an 18th-century manor house situated in County Carlow, Ireland.

Although a devastating fire in 1933 left it in ruins, the manor's exterior retains just enough to allow your imagination to rebuild its medieval appearance – you can just how amazing this building must have looked back its heyday.

There is a belief that a curse has cast a shadow over the Duckett Family for generations but would a curse have been cast in the first place?

What did this family do to earn such a sentence of bad luck for generations to come?

North Head, Sydney Australia is situated at the entrance of one of the world’s most beautiful and well know harbours, and for many years, ships and their passengers were forced to quarantine off shore to make certain that epidemics like the bubonic plague, Spanish influenza and small pox didn’t run rampant throughout the country.

Many people were infected whilst on board the long sea voyage to Australia and so a place on land was allocated to restrain the sick while they regained their health, but far enough away from the general population to avoid spreading diseases further.

Quarantine Station Manly was such a place.

The old buildings that remain on this site remind us of the ever present threat that a pandemic can cause, and back in the 1800’s treatment for such diseases may have meant months of pain and sometimes an agonising death.

In this week’s episode of the True Haunting Podcast we arrive at Q Station Manly, to be stripped, showered and quarantined so we can find out who or what still lingers within the walls of the buildings that once housed the sick and dying.

One of the most haunted sites you will stumble upon in Ireland is also one that has been a religious sanctuary to an order of Franciscan Friars since it’s establishment in the 15th Century.

Created on instruction by the voice of God The Abbey was also a place of pain and suffering as it was raided by English troops set on removing Catholic orders from the country.

Those that would not leave were threatened with torture and death.
