The Church is supposed to be a safe space for the broken and wounded. The Church is supposed to be a place of healing for those wounded by others. The Church is supposed to be a place of peace for those wounded by life’s challenges. The Church is supposed to be a place where people can grow in their faith and experience God’s love and grace. But, sometimes that does not happen and in those instances, you can experience one of the ultimate pains of life, “Church Hurt!”
In this episode, I am sharing a very emotional story of hurt, pain, and depression that I experienced at the hands of church folks. This hurt and the pain was very overwhelming and devastating. In my experience, at the time, it caused me to question God's love for me as well as His protection over me. I soon learned that God's grace and mercy were there with me the entire time, I just had to have faith in Him for me and for my family. Check out this very raw and emotional episode of hurt, pain, and transparency.

Why do church folks give others a hard time for attending church only on Easter or other Holidays? The church has been around and available to all for thousands of years. It’s a place of worship, celebration, and inspiration. Unfortunately, it’s also a place where hurt and pain reside. There are people in the church who truly believe they are the holiest of them all and feel that gives them the authority to damage others mentally.
But, what if this narrative could be changed to actually reflect what God truly intended - for ALL to come and be welcomed, regardless of the time, day, event, or holiday? What if we lifted others as opposed to breaking them down? Even if it’s one time a year! You never know that one time may be the one time needed to drive change in a person's life. Let’s get into this episode!

In this episode, we pit the age-old conversation of doing for your partner. When you're in a relationship, it can be easy to lose sight of what matters. To get caught up in the day-to-day and forget why you're together. Doing for each other is key as you both sacrifice to ensure the relationship keeps the love and respect. So why not, “Make daddy a sandwich”?
Because, if you really take a step back and look at what your partner is doing for you, and what they're doing for themselves, it's easy to see that you're all in this together…or at least you are supposed to be. And that's what makes it so special—the fact that even though you're on your own path, and at times might feel like no one else understands what's going on inside of your head, there's always someone out there who does - each other! So make daddy a sandwich, knowing that he will make mama a sandwich too!

This episode dives into the generation gap between parents/grandparents and children being raised in the fast-growing technology world in which we live today. Not only is there a generation gap but there is also a communication gap. As a result, we are disconnected and isolated from engagement and also, what's going on in our teenager's world today. The generation gap is real and present; it’s not going away, so we have to figure out how to bridge this gap.
Also, teenagers are absolutely glued to their phones, some are even obsessed with their phones and will become depressed or even violent when asked to put the phone away. Trust us, it’s not the fact that kids today spend so much time on their phones or mobile devices, but it is the way in which they use them. This gap is truly a result of technology believe us, it’s growing larger every day. Let’s get into this conversation.

This episode is packed with knowledge, experience, creativity, and the sheer faith in God to persevere through trying times, as the odds are defied - raising a son with a dream. It was such a joy to chat with Falisa and Wendell Ray, the authors of, the beautifully written book, entitled, “Raising Simba”.
Falisa shares her parenting journey raising a young creative son from the Chicago projects to his debut on Broadway, as Simba, in the sold-out play, The Lion King. Falisa’s journey from tragedy to triumph and the beautiful collaboration with her husband Wendell is a testimony to every parent pushing to raise kids who don't always fit in society’s perfect mold. This story is so heartfelt & this interview was such a joy! Enjoy this interview, because we surely loved every moment of it!

We have been married for 33 years, and we are still in love and consider each other to be our best friends. We have had our ups and downs, but we have always managed to get through it all. One very critical key for us was learning how to communicate with each other and understanding that communication is at the very heart of any relationship. We discussed everything from racism to religion. There are not too many subjects that are off the table for us, because we want to ensure we share our truths - even when it may be the hardest conversation to endure. Let’s get into it!
(5:19) Don’t forget each other; be intentional
(10:00) Love yourself first
(12:07) Marriage isn’t 50/50. Did you know that?
(16:22) Manipulation is not fair play
(19:38) Talk more and listen just as much
(28:21) How much can you take?
