“The mend or move on choice point can happen when a relationship simply grows misaligned, and it can also happen when toxicity is present,” King notes. “Perhaps you have grown to realize that your connection has always had undercurrents of dysfunction and poisonous qualities that you only recently have refused to tolerate. Maybe your relationship has grown toxic over time. Regardless of its path and process, toxic is toxic, and I would never recommend that a person grit their teeth and settle for an unhealthy bond that undermines their autonomy, shunts their strength, or belittles their value—particularly when it shows no hope for improvement.”
