  • Typical Books EP198 - Rave by Konn Lavery • Horror Book Review

A party gone wrong is one way to describe Rave by Konn Lavery. Twenty-four hours of drugs, bloodshed, and lust... and skulls. That was the one thing most reviews skimp on and I am no exception - I should have dug deeper into just what tantalizing and ancient imagery the teens are up against in the forest. Nothing like bringing a rave to its roots with a horned man-beast.   Once I read a little more Lavery perhaps we shall learn more...

  • Typical Books EP197 - Conspiracies Uncovered • Cover-Ups, Hoaxes and Secret Societies

Today on Typical Books we talk conspiracy theories. Dr. Lee Mellor's latest book was on my wishlist the moment it was announced. Here I go chapter by chapter with a tidbit on what I'd known, a little of what I know now, and maybe a little opinion here and there. How could I resist!

MK-Ultra? Area 51? Men in Black? These were my true-life horrors as a kid...

  • Typical Books EP195 - 12 Nights at Rotter House • Unreliable Narrator Horror Book Review

12 Nights at Rotter House by J. W. Ocker came as an unexpected hit for me. As I'm hit or miss with modern haunted house stories, this does feature a crumbling Victorian mansion, a sordid and sinful past, and a certain degree of ghost hunting to be had. So, a certain amount of this story is forever trapped in the past.

It also features a writer, Felix, for the main character so I was sold.

Felix is our morbid travel writer and unreliable narrator all in one.

    Pick up a copy ~ https://amzn.to/3uWLtHZ

There is also ample talk of horror films within these haunted halls, so I had a lot of fun with this, even when we were ripped from the past and plunked onto a threadbare couch in the parlour with our reluctant investigators.

Like horror films too? Wes Knipe and I talk horror over at Splatterpictures.net on Dead Air Horror Podcast! https://splatterpictures.net/

  • Typical Books EP193 - The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule • Spoiler: It Was Serial Killer Ted Bundy

This is the first Ann Rule book I've read and if you have interest in the Ted Bundy case, then The Stranger Beside Me comes highly recommended. Over and above the recent documentaries and films at that. I'll be reading more Ann Rule, that's for sure! It may go without saying, but this episode contains mention of his deplorable acts although I do focus on the book and why I liked it so much.

    #TedBundy #AnnRule #truecrime

    Books mentioned:

The Stranger Beside Me - https://amzn.to/3uzhwxh

The Killer Across the Table - https://amzn.to/3c0QwR6

The Last Book on the Left - https://amzn.to/3vtUych

    Understanding Necrophilia - https://amzn.to/3p4TDgc

Theodore Robert Bundy was an American serial killer who kidnapped, raped, and murdered numerous young women and girls during the 1970s and possibly earlier. He eventually confessed to 30 homicides across seven states between 1974 and 1978.

  • Typical Books EP192 - Dean Koontz: Intensity • Horror Book Review

Intensity by Dead Koontz was a very neat book I read alongside Regina at Regina's Haunted Library! A great dark thriller that certainly lives in the horror genre. We learned quite a bit about thriller writing tactics here, and I compare a little to the film High Tension (Haute Tension).

For my first and perhaps only unboxing video, I present a lot of 25 Richard Laymon books I picked up recently. Alongside #unboxing, I'll shelve them chronologically. It was an impressive buy, and just good luck! Now, to find the rest of them in the wild...
