We now come to another faithful and loyal servant of the Lord, Caleb.

Now here in Joshua 14 and 15, Caleb is 85 years old and as strong as ever to do battle for his promised inheritance.

Can we identify our giants and trust God for the deliverance and for God's glory?

Great Bible Characters continues with Joshua, the servant and warrior of the LORD.

Joshua was a devoted man, in Exodus 33:11, Joshua did not depart from the tent of the Lord.

In Joshua 5, He spent time in fellowship with the Lord Jesus, the Commander of the hosts of the Lord.

Joshua is given to us as an example of one who leads the new generation of Israelites into the promised land.

He is one who reads God's Word and obeys what God says.

Continuing with our study of Great Bible Characters, Dr. Mitchell shows us Joshua, a servant of the Lord, a warrior for the Lord.

We first find Joshua in Exodus with Moses.

Then later, in the book of Joshua, after Moses was dead, Joshua met the captain of the Hosts of the Lord, the pre-incarnate Son of God, Jesus Christ Himself, and He worshipped Him.

Dr. Mitchell brings out the fact that the Lord Jesus is Himself now praying and interceding for each of us who know Him.

The people had been quarrelsome and rebellious in demanding water.

Here, we see Moses, instead of speaking to the Rock, he struck the Rock twice. And this he did in great anger.

This ill advised action by Moses would now bring him his great disappointment.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Numbers 20:7 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In Numbers 11:4 we will hear how some of the

people of Israel were complaining about not

having any meat to eat. They were not satisfied

with the provision of manna which the Lord

Himself had given them so they complained.

This complaint started with those called “the

rabble” who were part of the mixed multitude who

came out of Egypt with Israel but they were not

necessarily a part of Israel itself.

Dr. Mitchell goes on to show how there will be

those who will be and are among the believers in

Christ today who do not know the Lord and cause

trouble. This is also revealed in the New

Testament.

So because of the complaining, Moses became

greatly discouraged before the Lord.

Let’s learn how God is able to deal with the

complaining and the discouragement.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Numbers 11:4.

In this study of a Great Bible Character, Moses,

whom we have been learning about, is now again

an intercessor. Here he will intercede for a

member of his own family, his own sister. Both

Aaron, his brother and Miriam his sister spoke

out against Moses.

We will hear about this Moses, the meekest of

men.

Dr. Mitchell presents the contrast between Moses

in Egypt as a mighty man and Moses the meekest

of men. What a transformation!

In this passage about Moses, Aaron, and Miriam,

his meekness is manifest. His God given 

authority was being challenged by his siblings.

When the LORD heard it, He confronted them. He

pointed out quite clearly that Moses was His

prophet.

Our Lord Jesus only once said of Himself that

He was meek and lowly of heart. Mat.11:29

Here is  Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Numbers 12.

Dr. Mitchell continues presenting Moses as a

prophet. He shares various scriptures

concerning the coming of the Lord and the

salvation of a remnant of Israel at that time.

The salvation of the nation of Israel is first

presented by Moses in Deuteronomy.

Their salvation will be based on repentance and

calling upon the name of the LORD.

Israel will be restored from out of the

nations to which they have been scattered.

Will this literally happen? Yes just as

literal as Jesus Christ who was born in

Bethlehem of Judea. Just a literal as He was

crucified and died and was buried and was

physically raised from the dead and was seen by

many witnesses.

This same Jesus will come back to this

earth to cleanse and redeem His people Israel,

every one of them who calls upon Him.

In our study of Great Bible Characters, we now

find Moses as a prophet of God. This is

important to know because the LORD told Moses

that He would raise up another prophet like him.

Moses prophesied the coming of the Lord. In five

passages in the N.T. there is presented the fact

that God would raise up a prophet like Moses.

Jesus the Christ was and is Himself that prophet 

whom God raised up.

Dr. Mitchell goes on to Dt. 28. Here is the

obligation of obedience upon the nation of

Israel.

curses for disobedience.

We need to observe what God is doing with the

nation of Israel in our day. Since May of 1948,

this nation has come back to their land of

Israel.

As we further explore the ministry of Moses, one of the Great Bible Characters, we come now to Numbers 14.

When they returned after 40 days, 2 men gave a good report of the land and 10 men gave a bad report.

This led Moses to pray that the LORD would forgive this unbelieving people

In Numbers 16 some other leaders of Israel rebelled against Moses and Aaron.

Our Great Bible Characters series finds Moses, on the mount of Sinai with YAHWEH, JEHOVAH receiving, a second time, the two stone tablets along with the 10 commandments, again, written on them.

Meanwhile, the people of Israel were at the foot of the mountain crafting a golden calf, an idol to worship it.

They wanted a visible representation of the invisible God who brought them out of Egypt.

The Apostle Paul writes, Colossians 1:15,2:9 that our Lord Jesus Christ
