March 25, 2022 Book of Jonah - Jonah 1:1-3 - Prog 03
Our study in the book of Jonah, the prophet
to the gentile city of Nineveh, continues
with a more detailed look beginning with the
first few verses of chapter 1.
In verse 1, Dr. Mitchell emphasizes the
very importance of the Word of God.
In Verse 2 The Lord commissions Jonah to
preach to Nineveh of God’s judgment against
their wickedness.
But in verse 3 we see Jonah’s disobedience
as he fled from the presence of the Lord
taking a ship traveling in the opposite
direction from Nineveh.
Dr. Mitchell makes an urgent plea for us
who know the living God to pray and intercede for unbelievers who around us,
whether friends or relatives.

We are overviewing the book of Jonah with Dr. John G. Mitchell.
As Dr. Mitchell notes, the book of Jonah is
not a parable but is real history as
verified by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew
12.
Jonah is presented in the New Testament in
two ways.
1st of all he is a testimony of the
preaching of the Word of God to the
gentiles and all who will hear.
2nd, Jonah is a type of the death, burial
and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
A brief outline of the Book of Jonah is
Chapter 1 Jonah’s call and failure.
Chapter 2 Jonah in the fish and his
deliverance.
Chapter 3 Jonah recommissioned to preach
to the people of Nineveh.
Chapter 4 God deals with his prophet
personally.

March 23, 2022 Book of Jonah - Jonah 1 - Intro - Prog 01
Then Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast begins
this new series in the Book of Jonah.
The one outstanding fact about Jonah is that
being a prophet in the Old Testament, he was
the only prophet
sent to a Gentile city, Nineveh. All the
other prophets of the O.T. were sent to
Israel or to Judah but Jonah was sent to a
Gentile people.
Dr. Mitchell brings out the historical
existence and reality of this man Jonah. He
is verified by no one less that our Lord
Jesus Himself, Matthew 12:39-41. Our Lord
likens His own death, burial and
resurrection to the experience of Jonah in
the belly of the great fish.
Dr. Mitchell then brings out the point that
God teaches Jonah that He is the God of Gentiles as well as the God of Jews.

March 22, 2022 Life of Faith - Genesis 22 - Prog 15
Our Life of Faith study series concludes
with Genesis 22 where we see
Abraham’s Test of Faith leading to his
Obedience of Faith.
Dr. Mitchell gives us a brief overview of
the Life of Faith in previous chapters of
Genesis.
In this passage, Abraham is tested as to
the his faith in God.
Dr. Mitchell draws on the distinction
between Gen.15:6 where Abraham is justified
by faith and Gen.22:12 where he was tested
by faith. The same parallel and distinction
is made between Romans 4:3 Abraham justified
by faith and James 2:21-23 where it is
written that Abraham was justified by works.
There is no contradiction here. Please note
there are 25 years difference between the
root and the fruit.

Welcome to the Unchanging Word Bible
Broadcast. We are in Genesis 18 as we
continue the Life of Faith study.
Our study in the Life of Faith finds
Abraham exhibiting the Energy of Faith
in Genesis 18.
When the Lord told Abraham of the outcry
that had been coming to Him from Sodom,
The Lord blesses Abraham with knowledge
of what He was shortly going to do.
Abraham began to intercede for those who
were righteous in that city. Abraham knew of
the character of God as the Judge of all
the earth. This means that God will
treat the righteous and the wicked on His
own terms, not man’s.
As Dr.Mitchell, says, God will always do
the right thing.

We continue our study in the Life of
Faith as found in Genesis 15 in the life
of Abraham the believer.
In the previous lesson, we learned about
the Reward of Faith.
The first aspect of this reward was God
Himself, our shield.
The second aspect of the reward was
God’s promise of an heavenly seed,
Christ Himself, who became our savior
and the promised ruler of the the people
of Israel in His coming kingdom.
In this lesson, we look at the 3rd
aspect of the Reward of Faith,
God’s revelation of His purpose for the
future concerning Abraham.
In the covenant the Lord made with
Abraham, God assured him the fulfillment
of His purpose.

In our study in the Life of Faith, we
will now look at the Reward of Faith,
Genesis 15.
Dr. Mitchell presents a three fold
aspect of this reward, but in this study
we will only look at the first two.
The first reward is God Himself, our
shield. Therefore we do not need to fear
what the world about us is fearing.
2ndly is God’s promise of an heavenly
seed to Abraham, Christ Himself.

To You and I who believe in the Lord
Jesus Christ, God reckons righteousness
to us because we actually believe what
God says is true about His Son. God
declares to every intelligent being
throughout the entire universe that this
believer is righteous with God Himself.

Abram displays the dignity of faith by
refusing to accept anything from the
king of Sodom.
Abram confesses that he had sworn to God
Most High, possessor of heaven and
earth, that he would take nothing from
this wicked king, lest the king would
later be able to say that he had made
Abram rich.
Abram, in the dignity of faith, was
blessed by Melchizedek, priest of El
Elyon, the Most High God.

In this study, in Genesis 14, we will be
looking at the courage of faith.
Here Abram is exhibited as one who by
faith demonstrates the courage of faith.
In verse 13, Abram is here first called an
Hebrew.
Abram was informed that Lot and his
family had been taken captive from Sodom
to the city of Dan in the north.
Abram is exhibited as a warrior.
Abram, by faith, garnered his home
trained men, 318 in number, and went to
rescue his nephew Lot.
Dr. Mitchell then takes us to the N.T.,
1John 5:4-5 which says in part, “..this
is the victory that has overcome the
world, our faith. Who is the overcomer?
The one who believes that Jesus is the
Son of God."

We continue the Life of Faith in Genesis
13:5.

Dr. Mitchell explores the humility of
faith in this study on family
relationships.
Abram’s humility toward Lot is revealed.
Reconciliation was effected by humility
and generosity in their conflict.
You see in these verses how Lot chose
for himself what seemed good in his
eyes, which from the pragmatic point of
view, seemed wise for the benefit of
watering his herds.
But, morally, it was not wise. He
settled in the land of Sodom which was
exceedingly wicked against the Lord.
But God encourages Abram with the
breadth and width of the promised land
which he would inherit in time to come.
