In 1st Peter 1:17, Dr. Mitchell speaks of God the Father as judge. God is equitable in all His dealings within His family. If necessary, He will discipline the one who is in need of spiritual training in righteousness, that he may share in the holiness of the Lord, without which no one will see the Lord.

In verses 18-19, Dr. Mitchell states,"Because of the cost of our redemption we ought to live godly as obedient children of God."

Redemption has to do with sin. Christ purchased us out of sin for Himself at the price of His own blood on the cross.

1st Jn.1:7 says, "if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son, keeps on cleansing us from all sin."

Here is Dr. Mitchell, 1Pet.1:17

1Pet.1:13, is one of the 5 times that Peter writes of the revelation of Jesus Christ in this epistle.

Peter was one of the three disciples to witness the coming of the Lord Jesus at the transfiguration. His heart of expectation and hope is reflected here in verse 13.

In view of the coming of Lord, how shall we then live? In verse 14, Dr. Mitchell looks at the motive, that just as the Lord is holy, one is to be holy in the whole lifestyle. This is brought about by the obedience of faith to the word of God Himself.

The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast seeks to enable each one to know, believe and follow the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us and rose again that we may live in hope of His appearing.

Along with Dr. Mitchell, let's open our Bible to 1Pet.1:13, here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Dr. Mitchell looks into 1Pet.1:10-12 which reveals the Old Testament prophets searching who the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating.

It was revealed to them that they were serving future generations who would be reading the Old Testament Scriptures.

Jesus said to His disciples in John 16:13 "When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things to come."

Now, in the New Testament, they have written down the words of Christ and the truth of His person and work. They are here to be read and believed.

Now you and I can know something of the grace of God, unlike the angels which know nothing of this grace.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, 1Pet.1:12.

A purified faith rejoices--Looking forward to the revelation of Jesus Christ which results in the completion of one's salvation.

1Pet.1:10-13 has a threefold witness to this salvation. The O.T. prophets searched what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when He predicted the work of Christ.

Dr. Mitchell asks these questions. Do you know what God's purpose is for the church? Do you know the purpose of God for Israel? Do you know what God is going to do with the nations?

Do you know what God is going to do with the animal creation?

Do you know what God is going to do with you? Should we not search and find out what God has revealed concerning what He is and will be doing?

Dr. John G. Mitchell continues in 1st Peter chapter 1 beginning at verse 7.

In the midst of trials, who do you turn to?

Dr. Mitchell points the heart of the believer to Jesus Christ. In the midst of trials and afflictions, one's faith is proved to be true, genuine and pure.

It is sometimes difficult to rejoice in the midst of the trial, isn't it?

Rejoicing directed toward God lifts one's heart and spirit up above the circumstance just like being in an airplane lifts one above the storm clouds below.

Dr. Mitchell shares that the very Grace of God which brings salvation was written about even by the prophets in the Old Testament. It is amplified in the New Testament, and here in 1st Peter.

Open your Bible to 1st Peter chapter 1 verse 7 with Dr. Mitchell, here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In this study in 1st Peter chapter 1 Dr. Mitchell reviews verses 3 and 4 before going on to verses 5 thru 7. He reminds us of the inheritance each believer has in Christ, the risen savior.

Dr. Mitchell speaks of the perfect salvation found in verse 5. He states "our inheritance is kept for us, and we are guarded for the inheritance". This is a sure salvation for each one who trusts in the Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son. Let me ask. Do you have this blessed assurance and eternal salvation?

If not, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved! It is God's own guarantee as proved by His raising Jesus from the dead. Believe God's own proof and evidence -- Jesus and God's word.

Dr. Mitchell speaks from 1st Peter chapter 1 verses 3 thru 5 in this study.

He speaks of being born-again, of the living hope, of the resurrection of Christ, of the inheritance reserved in heaven for each one who knows the Lord Jesus. This inheritance has four descriptive words attached to it which speaks of it's guaranteed possession.

He goes on to speak of each one's faith being kept and maintained by the power of God for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Dr. Mitchell, as he often does, brings in many supporting scriptures in explaining these verses with emphasis on the centrality of the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ.

With Dr. Mitchell, turn to 1st Peter 1:3 here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Peter authors and writes his first epistle from the city of Babylon in 60 A.D. by a faithful brother named Silvanus. He writes to suffering believers in the world.

Dr. Mitchell looks at 1Pet. 1:1-3. In verses 1 and 2 he looks at 3 truths.

These exiles were elect of God the Father and honored for suffering, they were sanctified by the Spirit in witnessing and by the work of Christ and the sprinkling of His blood, they were cleansed for service and fitted for the presence of God.

Going on to verse 3, he states what each believer has in Christ.

First is a guaranteed living and future hope for each believer.

This has been accomplished by the resurrection of Christ from out among the dead ones.

Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, 1st Peter chapter 1 verse 1.

Dr. Mitchell, begins a new series in Peter. He gives background on the apostle Peter as found in the four Gospels and Acts.

Peter was first of all a fisherman, then a disciple, then an apostle. As an apostle, he wrote two New Testament books.

1st Peter was written to show the true Grace of God to encourage those enduring trials.

2nd Peter was written to show the sufficiency of the Grace of God in the midst of false teachers.

Peter was the first one to proclaim the revelation of God the Father that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. Jesus would build His church upon this rock which is God's Divine revelation of who this Jesus is.

Peter writes about this Jesus, the stone rejected by men, but choice and precious in the sight of God.
