Our study begins in Col.3:8. Here the apostle lists another 6 sins which must be put off, our old practices of attitudes, words and sins. From our new lifestyle in Christ, Our new man is to be renewed in accordance with the knowledge of God who placed us in Christ.

We are next exhorted, in verse 12-14 to put on, as the elect of God, 7 new heart's attitudes and actions. It culminates in Love as the perfect bond with the peace of Christ ruling in your heart being thankful.

Our study in Col.3:5-7 centers around the need for the believer to put to death, to separate from one's own previous sins. These sins were part of the old man, the old lifestyle, the previous life without God and Christ.

Dr. Mitchell focuses our attention on the need for believers to pray for our country, for the rulers of this country, that God would have mercy on us, that we may live a peaceable and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This would prevent the wrath of God from coming upon this generation in which we live.

Dr. Mitchell looks at the reason for why the wrath of God comes upon a people. It is very simple. People do not know Jesus Christ as their savior, the only one who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Col.3:5.

In Colossians 3 verses 5 and 6, the Apostle Paul exhorts the believer to put to death what is earthly. What is 'earthly' are 6 sins for which the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

In Ephesians 2 verse 2 he states that, at one time, because of these same sins, we were all 'by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind'.

But now, we are children of God by faith in Christ Jesus and will not come into judgment, but have passed out of death into life. God has not appointed us to wrath but to salvation thru our Lord Jesus Christ. 1Thes.5:9

We are in Colossians 3 verses 1 thru 4 with Dr. Mitchell. He reminds us of our eternal union with Christ, in which there is not now nor ever will be any evidence of our sin before God and the whole creation of intelligent creatures.

It is written, Ours sins and iniquities He will no more remember forever. (Heb.10:17-18)

Is this true of you, my friend?

It is if you know and trust Jesus Christ as your savior. So finished and so complete is the work of Christ on our behalf, that there will not be one shred of evidence, no written record of our sin having ever existed. We are new creations in Christ, created in the image of this One who is holy, righteous and true.

What a salvation!

What a security!

What a savior!

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Colossians 3:1 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Our study in Colossians continues in chapter 3 verses 1-4. Dr. Mitchell will takes into the truth of being in Christ. This means being joined to the savior so that your life is hid in Christ who himself is also hidden in God. This really speaks to us of a double security, does is not?

Dr. Mitchell also speaks of our future life.

In verse 4, it says 'When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory'. He says, 'we died with Him, we were raised with Him, we are seated with Him, we live in Him, we shall appear with Him'. This is the reality of our union with Him, those of us who have trusted Christ as savior and Lord.

Let's turn to Colossians 3:1 with Dr. Mitchell, here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Dr. Mitchell will state and examine the 3 main things which will characterize the earth before the coming of Lord to the earth.

These are, indifference, immorality, and ignorance. Do we not see these today? Ignorance of people with respect to the character of God and His provision for salvation abounds to this day.

In Matthew 24:29-30 it is recorded that Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the son of Man will be coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

If you trust Jesus, when He comes for His church, maybe even today, you will not be in the 7 years of the great tribulation before Christ returns again the second time.

When the Lord comes again, will you still be here? or with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven?

Turn to Matthew 24:29 with Dr. Mitchell. This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

We want to thank you for being here with us as we study God's Word. Dr. Mitchell taught the Scriptures for over 60 years both as a pastor of a church and as a professor in Bible college. This ministry seeks to build up the body of Christ in the Word of God and to encourage each believer in their walk with Christ Himself today.

Built upon the fact that we have already died with Christ, Dr. Mitchell says, Christ died not only for the acts but for the actors.

Christ died, not only for our sins, but for each one of us personally and individually. Jesus is our substitute dying in our place bearing our guilt and the punishment we deserved.

As the hymn we sing, says, "Hallelujah, what a savior."

Dr. Mitchell will show us that false mysticism and false humility turns one away from Christ. It turns aside to other things, even religious things and does not hold fast to the Head of the body, Christ Himself.

Another practical issue surfaces in Col 2: 20-23. Paul warns against asceticism. Asceticism is giving up things thinking it makes one holy.

Dr. Mitchell shows how this type of teaching is based solely on man. It is not from God or Christ or His Word. One who knows Jesus Christ has died to these rudiments of the world. These rudiments are the worldly rules for living in the world. The Christian has no relationship to these worldly rules of living.

He lives by grace as found in Titus 2:11-12

Here in Colossians 2:19 is Dr. Mitchell, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

As Dr. Mitchell mentions in this study, we too thank you for the prayers and intercessions on behalf of this ministry of the Word of God. Your labour is not in vain.

Dr. Mitchell continues in Colossians 2:16 concerning practical realities of the Christian life. He gives us a definition of legalism with it's attitude of trying to gain favor with God by doing and not doing things.

This is opposed to grace which focuses on Christ and His finished work of salvation by faith.

Let's open our Bible and turn to Colossians 2:16, with Dr. Mitchell, here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Our study in Colossians chapter 2 continues with Dr. Mitchell in verses 14 and 15.

These verses relate to us the final and finished work of God and of Christ on our behalf on the cross of Christ. This finished work of Christ, never to be repeated again forever, blots out our sins and transgressions from before the face of God forever.

As Dr. Mitchell says, 'In Christ's death, God destroyed all the evidence of our past. Every thing that was against us before God has been taken out of the way.' This is good news, this is the best news.
