Dr. Mitchell shares with us the outreach the apostle Paul even in prison, that Paul was body bound but spirit free. He was able to share the gospel with those even in Caesar's court and among the imperial guard there in Rome.

Let's open our Bible and turn to Philippians chapter 1 verse 12 and join our teacher, Dr. Mitchell.

Dr. John G. Mitchell continues in Philippians chapter 1 verses 7-11 here on The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Dr. Mitchell looks at the prayer of the apostle Paul for these believers in Philippi. He says this prayer is the prayer of a pastor for his church, wanting them to be in his heart.

Paul also prays that the believer's love would be exercised with discernment so as to approve what is excellent.

The importance to us is that we will have a pure and blameless heart in the day we appear before Christ. We will be filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ.

And God Himself will be glorified.

The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast continues in Philippians chapter 1 verses 3 thru 6 as Dr. Mitchell speaks to us concerning this letter of the apostle Paul. Paul wrote this letter from a prison in the city of Rome. He wrote to these christians who were undergoing persecution for their faith in Christ and the gospel.

In this chapter Paul mentions the gospel 6 times. The content of the gospel is found in 1Cor.15 verses 3-9. Paul writes that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried and that he was raised again the third day according to the scriptures and he was seen by many believers, including Paul himself.

Let's join Dr. Mitchell in Philippians chapter 1 verse 3.

Our study begins in Philippians chapter 1 with Dr. John G. Mitchell.

After a short overview of the beginnings of the church in Philippi, Dr. Mitchell explains the theme of christian experience in this book.

In chapter 1, the key word of Philippians is joy even in the midst of persecution for Christ.

Dr. Mitchell points us to the mind of Christ which is found in chapter 2.

In chapter 3, we find the goal of the christian life is to know Christ and power of His resurrection.

Finally, in chapter 4 we find Christ who strengthens the believer to do all things thru Him.

We are continuing the prison Epistles of Paul series in the book of Philippians. Dr. Mitchell will be taking us to Acts chapter 16 where we discover the background of how the Apostle Paul introduced the gospel to the city of Philippi.

And actually it began in a small little setting down by the river with a group of praying women since there was no synagogue there. And the Lord opened the heart of Lydia a woman. Lydia was a seller of purple from Thyatira and she was listening to the Apostle Paul present the gospel e.g. presenting the Messiah from the Old Testament.

The Lord opened her heart to believe the things the Apostle Paul had been teaching about the Messiah, Jesus.

Let's begin with Dr. Mitchell in Acts chapter 16:11.

Here is Ephesians chapter 6, the Apostle Paul continues on with two other segments of society. There is the family composed of children and parents. Paul points to the fact that the command to obey one's parents carries the promise of well being and long life in the land.

Next is the work place, composed of slaves and masters. This exhorts us to work sincerely, as to the Lord which also carries with it a reward from the Lord.
