The Power of God is made manifest in the Gospel.

The Gospel centers in Jesus Christ and Him crucified, His person and His work. Proclaiming Christ in the power of the Spirit of God rests a man's faith on God rather than on men on power rather than on wisdom.

The gospel of the Grace of God. Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and He was buried. He rose again the third day according to the scriptures and He was seen by believing witnesses.

Jesus is even now in heaven praying for us who are trusting Him to keep us saved and He will be coming back soon to finalize our salvation. Please, Do trust in Him! He will not fail you!

We learn today that Grace is the foundation of our salvation, Faith is the means of receiving salvation and Hope is the completion of salvation.

And at the center is Jesus Christ our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption.

John Bunyan once wrote on the fly leaf of his Bible these words:

"My righteousness is at God's right hand where my good works can't help it,

and my bad works can't hurt it." Do you and I have that assurance,

We don't often think of God as having any connection with foolishness or with weakness.

But today we learn that God has his own ways of foolishness and weakness.

Let's join Dr. Mitchell to find out what they are.

Paul wrote in Gal.6:14 "May it never be that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, thru whom the world is crucified to me and I to the world." It's who was on the cross, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, that separated the believer from the world.

In 1 Corinthians chapters 8 thru 10 Paul answers now a third question concerning things sacrificed to idols.

He states that knowledge puffs up but love builds up but if anyone loves God, he is known by Him.

So how does love effect the brethren in the church especially when it comes to doubtful activities?

Christ, our mediator, died, and those who now have a relationship to God also have a conscience before God.

But not everyone has the same conscience.

There may still be mental baggage leftover from a former lifestyle. So what are we to do?

Well here is Dr. Mitchell to continue our study, 1 Corinthians 8:1.

 Who would have thought that God would send His Son into the world as a virgin born baby, Immanuel, God with us? His ways are past finding out except by His Divine Revelation - the Bible - His Unchanging Word.

 The focus today is on the power of the cross. The gospel is not unreasonable when you know the power of God. God has shown Himself and His wisdom by Divine Revelation - not by human reasoning.

The wisdom of God is made know through the Gospel.

The message of the cross must stand alone - nothing in the way, nothing added, nothing subtracted.

The message of the Cross is foolishness to the perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Our study today in First Corinthians chapter 1 verses 4 through 9 continues. Paul is thankful to God for the grace given to this church in Christ. He also testifies that they were waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ and the day when we too will appear before Him unreproveable. 

 Jesus said in John18:37  "For this I was born and for this purpose I came into the world, to bear witness to the truth."  

When Jesus appears the next time it will be to confirm God's faithfulness of presenting us before Him blameless in holiness.

As it is written in 2 Cor.9:8 that Jesus who "although He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor that you through His poverty might be made rich". Jesus will forever have a human, although glorified body. 

Your sacrificial giving of time and prayer for the Unchanging Word will be rewarded. Thank you for upholding us! 

Paul was called of God to be an apostle. The Corinthians were called saints having been sanctified by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Here the Apostle Paul is writing to the Corinthians for two reasons. 

One, they had written to him needing answers to some questions.

And secondly, he wrote to them because he heard that there were divisions, schisms in the church. 

So this brings us to 1Corinthians 1: 1-5 as Dr. Mitchell continues our study.  

The Unchanging Word now begins a new study in the books of 1st and 2nd Corinthians. Dr. Mitchell will first give us an overview of the 16 chapters of 1st Corinthians and how and why it fits into the New Testament. 

The Apostle Paul came to Corinth after visiting Athens and because of a Divine Revelation of Jesus Christ to him, Paul spent a year and a half  teaching the Corinthians the Word of God. So to begin our study in 1st Corinthians chapter 1. 

In a church, exalting their teachers rather than the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, the consequent problem of division in the church developed. (There is a remedy.) The Apostle Paul's remedy for this is allowing Jesus Christ back in as the head of the Body and center of attraction in Bible study, fellowship, worship and giving.
