Carolyn Shapiro stopped by the Dazzle Den recently and we had a great discussion about her music and her latest album. We had been aware of each other for a while, but had never actually met, so the conversation you are hearing on this episode is the first time we'd ever spoken in person. While I do enjoy having friends, or people I have met on the show, I truly enjoy meeting someone that I respect just moments before we record.

Unsigned518 is a weekly show that puts a spotlight on local bands and musicians in the 518. New episodes available every Tuesday and Thursday.

We made it through January. Barely. The days are now getting longer as we head towards spring, which means more live music. Not that there is a shortage in the winter months, but more people do tend to attend live music events in the warmer weather, so that is always a plus for local bands.

On this episode, I mention one event happening each day from now through the weekend. I also play a song from a couple of 518 bands or musicians that are playing this weekend. This week, I have the pleasure of premiering a song from not one, but two amazing 518 bands, The Abyssmals and The Greetings. I also play a song from Sabrina Trueheart, who was the first guest to play a song live on the show all the way back in episode 13. ROUGE! are without a doubt an interesting couple of dudes. They unabashedly play by their own rules and let their passion and varied inspirations guide them. We sat down at the Dazzle Den and talked about their formation, how personal struggles offered musical inspiration and even a break-up that is literally ripped directly from a Seinfeld episode. We also talk a little about the Albany underground music scene and how the closing of some venues has impacted that.

It's already been a long and dreary winter and it's still only January. That may be why I designed the cover of this episode to look like an ominous Stephen King novel (It is definitely why).
