After seeing Sydney play at Empire Underground this Summer, I knew I wanted to have her on the show. Her music is fantastic and her songwriting is sharp enough that I would not be surprised if Sydney is a nationally known artist before long. 

 

She made the trip out to the Dazzle Den and we had a great conversation about her start in music all the way up to where she is now. We get some insight into how she crafts her songs and we also get to hear a couple of songs that she chose to play on the show, including her newest single, How Soon Is Now?

 

Friendly, easy-going, and undeniable talent, Sydney Worthley seemed like the perfect guest to close out 2022 and the first season of Unsigned518.

This was a very compelling episode for me to record, as Reeya is one of the most candid and open guests that I have had on the show. She goes into detail not only about how her struggles with mental illness played into the creation of her music, but also gives great detail about the struggles themselves. She has also had a very interesting music career leading up to the present day. I don't want to give too much away, so you will just have to listen to Episode 50 with Reeya Banerjee.

 

 

Annie in the Water has been a mainstay in the 518 scene for years. They are also making a name for themselves well outside of the 518 as well. I have seen them play many times but had never met any of the members, despite having friends in common. Randomly, while out for a walk with my wife and dog, I got a message from Michael of AITW, noting that I had just posted about Kickstart Coffee here in Schuylerville. He said he had just moved to town and we should link up. Less than 48 hours later, Michael was at the Dazzle Den, recording an episode. It is an interesting episode, not only because Michael goes into the history of the band (even the origin of their name) but also because it is the first time we met and we are now practically neighbors. Get to know Michael Lashomb and be a fly on the wall to our new friendship.

 

David Tyo is back for a second time and we talk about some of the local music that David has produced and he gives us a fair amount of behind-the-scenes information on what goes into producing a song. He plays a couple selections of local music he has worked on, including the new ShortWave RadioBand song, which comes out 11/15. Ryan Leddick stopped by the Dazzle Den recently and we had a nice conversation about his relationship with music. We talk about his early introduction to music and explore highlights of his musical journey up to now. Ryan also plays 2 songs live in-studio. This episode was a long time coming. I had hoped to have Ryan on several months ago, but due to both of our crazy Summer schedules, it just never lined up. Luckily, 6pm on a Tuesday in the Fall worked for both of us and I'm happy to present episode 46 with Ryan Leddick.

 

An eclectic juggernaut, Nickopotamus combines elements of rock, jam, funk, punk, groove, and zydeco to provide the listener with a visceral experience that will leave them singing along. Nickopotamus is a good-time/high-energy live band known to have just as much fun on stage as their fans do. Hailing from Albany, NY this 4 piece band is led by songwriter/guitarist Nick Souder.
