  • I Was Done: No Cell Service and the $60 That Brought Me Back to Life

In this episode of Unwritten, Trevor sits down with Joe Domina to talk about being lost, stung, and desperately sick in the wilderness, one man found God’s provision exactly when he decided to quit.

Whether you're someone struggling with feelings of restlessness, or just curious about faith and radical dependence on God, this conversation will help you discover unforgettable proof of the Father’s care and character.

    What You’ll Hear:

    • Joe’s pilgrimage across America started two months prior to the story pick-up, beginning in Jersey City, New Jersey, near Lady Liberty. His journey was motivated by a deep desire to grow in holiness, cast off idols, and have a lived, embodied, and unforgettable experience of the Father's providential care. He began his walk without a smartphone, debit card, credit card, or cash, vowing never to ask anyone for money.

    • While walking the Appalachian Trail (AT), Joe faced a "biggest test yet" when he developed diarrhea, joint pain, extreme fatigue, and piercing neck pain (likely from a bite). After getting lost while following yellow blazes instead of the traditional white blazes, he decided he was "done" and ready to quit, only to discover he had no cell service to call anyone.

    • The surprising generosity and community Joe encountered, including fellow hikers (Electric Spring and Sweaty Camel) who shared precious electrolyte water and gave him $60 after praying for him. This experience, alongside the kindness of hostel owner Bunny, reinforced that his trial helped him receive his desire for a powerful experience of God's providential care.

  • From Wilderness to Providence: One Man's 3300 Mile Journey Across America

What would compel a man to walk across America with nothing but a flip phone and a backpack? Joe Domina's extraordinary 3,375-mile pilgrimage from the Statue of Liberty to the Pacific Ocean reveals how spiritual hunger can drive us beyond our comfort zones into profound encounters with God's providence.

This powerful episode of Unwritten takes us deep into the Appalachian wilderness where Joe's commitment was severely tested. In this moment of complete vulnerability, Joe confronts his deepest fears about self-preservation and control.

Joe's pilgrimage wasn't merely a physical challenge but a spiritual quest to confront five modern idols plaguing both his life and American society: money, distraction, sex, status, and self-preservation.

The most powerful moments come not in triumphant victories but in Joe's complete surrender, where illness and exhaustion strip away his illusions of self-sufficiency. Through these trials, Joe discovers nine profound spiritual truths that now guide his life.

When Joe finally reaches the Pacific Ocean after 346 days, his experience transcends words—a moment of pure presence, joy, and gratitude that he describes as "what heaven's gonna be like." Listen now and discover how breaking free from modern idols might be the journey your soul is longing for.

  • The Heart of Homily Preparation: Better Preach x SEEK

Join us on the SEEK podcast as Father John Burns opens our hearts to the transformative power of Catholic homilies. Unlike any other form of public speaking, an authentic homily weaves together Scripture, liturgy, and our daily lives, offering a unique conduit for divine grace.

Father Burns delves deep into the essence of impactful preaching, emphasizing that the core of powerful homilies is not in the technique but in prayer. He shares his personal approach to homily preparation, which begins with a prayerful request to understand the hearts of his listeners. This spiritual preparation allows him to transcend his own ideas and deliver messages that resonate deeply with parishioners, often addressing their needs in ways he had not anticipated.

Highlighting the biblical metaphor of sowing seeds, Father Burns reminds us that as preachers, we participate in God’s work by planting the living Word in the hearts of the faithful. It’s a humble reminder that while we may lay the foundations, it is God alone who brings forth the growth.

Father Burns also touches on the need for a holistic approach to Church renewal, suggesting that powerful preaching must go hand in hand with the nurturing roles of both spiritual fathers and mothers within the Church. This unity of masculine and feminine expressions of faith embodies the fullness of God’s design for our spiritual family.

  • Finding Your Faith in the Corporate World: Corporate Catholic x SEEK

Navigating the corporate world as a young adult can be intimidating, especially for those who want to maintain their faith in a secular environment. In this episode hosts Allison and Claire share transformative lessons they've learned throughout their careers. Drawing from their personal experiences, they detail the essential idea that your first job doesn't have to define your career. Instead, it's a valuable learning opportunity filled with potential for growth and purpose.

The corporate landscape needs more people of faith to champion positive change within organizations. Allison and Claire wholeheartedly believe that by embracing their identities as Catholics in the workplace, they can inspire a new perspective in corporate culture. They challenge the notion that work must be a mundane necessity divorced from spirituality, encouraging listeners to see their contributions through a prayerful lens. Each moment spent in the office can, in fact, be an opportunity for worship and service.

Community also plays a crucial role in this journey. The hosts advocate for building supportive networks, urging young professionals to connect with each other for encouragement and growth. The lives they build around their careers should be infused with faith, and they emphasize that previous experiences will shape their paths, even if it feels confusing at the moment.
