It's already hard enough to stick to your convictions, but sticking to them when you have to support people you disagree with morally makes it even stickier. While Aaron is not available for this week's episode (yay fall illness) Paul takes over the microphone solo to talk about this tension of being able to support people to be able to legally protest/say things that he disagrees with at the same time sticking to his own convictions. For example, a protestor protesting for more lgb policies, Mike Lindell and his narratives surrounding the 2020 elections, and a few others.
This produces a tension - how do we get around this tension - and what do we do in those moments?

This week we cover chapter 16 of Knowing God by J.I. Packer which is titled God's Goodness and Severity. This is something that a lot of people only look at one part of the equation (Goodness) but often time at their own peril forget to take into account severity. There are a lot of people that think of God as Packer states in the Santa Clause phase. All of these need to be taken into consideration in order to have a full view of who God is.

This week we continue going through J.I. Packer's book Knowing God. We go through chapter 15 where Packer emphasizes that in order to have a full view of who God is we need to keep in mind the wrath of God - and when people think of wrath we often think of it in very human forms not the form of wrath from God which is not impacted by our flawed human ways. So what does Packer have to say on wrath? Let's take a look!

This week we take a look at August Burns Red's song Martyr. But before we get into the song itself we take a look to see if Aaron is just a fan, a super fan, or a stalker of ABR. Take a guess before you listen on what he is.
Once we finish going through the stalker quiz, we talk about the song and through it we discover a nice little surprise...but what could it be? And does this make it on Paul's playlist?

This week we talk about the new smash hit by Oliver Anthony called Rich Men North Of Richmond. While this song has risen to #1 on Billboard as of 8/22/2023, it has brought up a few questions for Paul. For example - should we as Christians give attention to this song and what should we do about the language present in the song? Also should we give him immediate fame or let him mature some first in the limelight. Also why are some people looking for controversy in this song? Join us this week as we discuss this song that has become the hit of the nation.

This week we are going on assignment! We start out about talking about a new app on the app stores for both Android and iOS called Veebs. The claim of the application is that it allows you to select your values and then when you go shopping you scan what you are going to buy to determine if the company aligns with your values. We talk about the app at first and then go on location to a local grocery store to see what Aaron eats in a typical week and if his grocery list is safe or not.

In this episode of Use Your Words, we take a look at Yellow Card's song Only One twenty years after it was released. We learn a few things during this song: Paul listened to way more emo than he cares to admit during his early adult hood, Pug Mugs are the best mugs (YouTube version only), and sometimes musicians make mistakes when they make music videos that have nothing to do with the song. While we listen and look at this song, we also look at how this song exemplifies a typical music video/song in the early 2000's. We also discuss Dave Matthews Band's influence on early 2000's music and how it even impacted jazz bands during this time frame. Join us and listen to determine if this song will appear on your own personal playlist.

In this episode of Use Your Words, we look at the "controversial" song that has sparked a heated debate surrounding racist references, lynching, and sundown towns in music. In fact the song is so "evil" that it was even pulled off of Country Music Television cable channel rotation due to the evils that they said were contained in the song - but is it really as bad as they say?
Pundits were also quick to point out that the singer is anti a lot of socially popular things as well - claiming that he is an "evil" person - but how much of that is true and real - and how much of it is just projection because they don't like the politics of the singer? Also - is it really a bad thing for people to be good and defend their neighbors? What about if the person that is your neighbor is someone that you disagree with? Why would it be bad for us to go back to living with a small town mindset?

This week we continue on with J.I. Packer's Knowing God - covering chapters 13 and 14 talking about the concept both of Grace as well as God As Judge - and how closely these two items are related to one another.

This week we talk about one of the conversations that we have seen online - a conversation on why men do not attend church - or in fact leave the church. We start the episode (best on video on our YouTube channel) playing a simple game of Worship Song or Love Song. See if you can beat Aaron's score of guessing it correctly.
