Transition Awareness Breathing

Using mindfulness tools in spirituality

Listen Later

The goal of mindfulness is to decrease stress, relieve anxiety, and increase focus, which physiologically results in reducing blood pressure, decreasing stress-related illnesses, and increasing creativity and appreciation of life. Much research has been done and supports that people who practice mindfulness have a more substantial chance of living happier and healthier lives. Transition awareness breathing is a mindfulness program that uses evidence-based practice methodologies in my fullness-based stress reduction practices. And so it is a secular practice. I intentionally designed transition awareness breathing to focus on mindfulness relaxation and the awareness practices to alleviate barriers that some may have to prevent them from practicing a healthy lifestyle and mindfulness. During this podcast, we will explore how mindfulness tools are used in spirituality. The focus is not on one particular religious practice. The focus is on the tools of mindfulness used in different spiritual practices. Whatever spiritual practice is used, research supports that the outcome of the people using mindfulness has increased focus and awareness to build compassion and kindness to strengthen faith and strong coping skills in times of stress. And therefore, mindfulness is not a religion. It is a multifaceted tool that helps increase healthy lifestyles and spiritual unity. Suppose there is a practice with a banner of mindfulness attached to it, and the outcome of the practitioners is not kindness, compassion, non-judgment, or bringing peace and unity with the environment and the world. In that case, the practice is not mindfulness.
