It’s one thing to validate someone when their grievances are aimed at someone else. It’s another thing entirely to do so when you are the source of their frustrations. Another challenging scenario is validating someone when they’re espousing views or thoughts that are morally abhorrent to you. However, in both these cases, it is essential that we focus on the person and not the content of their argument. Always remember that validation is not agreement; you can validate without accepting someone’s views.
