Think back to your childhood for just a moment. Your father has asked you to do something. You are expected to say "yes sir" and complete the task he asked of you. But instead, you delay, ask questions, give excuses, and maybe argue with him. Did your stomach just drop at the thought of questioning your earthly father?

Now, imagine God has audibly asked you to do something. And instead of saying "yes sir" you delay, ask questions, give excuses, and maybe argue with Him. How much more frightening is that thought?

Did you know Moses did this very thing? God appeared to Moses in a burning bush and asked Moses to do something. And instead of being obedient, Moses delayed, questioned God, gave excuses, and argued with Him. It's a wonder that God didn't turn Moses into a pile of dust!

Are you being obedient to what you have been asked to do? Or are you arguing with Him?

Sunday Morning, February 10th, 2019 - The Lord is My Shepherd - Evangelist Richard Harper

Psalm 23 might be familiar to you. Maybe you have memorized it as part of Sunday School or VBS. But have you ever sat down and actually studied it?

There is evidence that David wrote the 23rd Psalm later in his life, holed up in a tent as Absalom sought to kill him. He was looking back on all the good things God has done in his life. It is a psalm of worship based on memories of days past. David looks back and remembers how God helped him slay the giant, when God anoints him to be king, how He protected David when Saul wanted to kill him, even throwing a spear at him. He draws on his time as a little shepherd boy and draws the parallel between a Holy God and a shepherd watching over his sheep.

If you are a child of God, the first verse of the psalm should be enough to fuel you up for a lap around the church house. Take comfort in knowing that the Lord is YOUR shepherd!

Have you ever thought about your own death? It's a morbid thought isn't it? It's not something we like to think about. And yet we make preparations. Many people complete a will. Some purchase burial plots. We take out life insurance policies. Everywhere you travel, all around the world, there are graves. Unfortunately, death is a fact of life. Unless we are raptured together, we will face death in one form or another.

But Elijah, he was different. The Bible tells us that he was taken up into heaven by a whirlwind. Only one other man in the Bible was spared death. So what can we learn about our own departure by examining the departure of a man who didn't actually die?

Tonight Bro. Steve Harless leads us through an examination of the departure of Elijah and how it applies to our own one day.

The Word of God is under attack in our country today; perhaps more than ever before.It is being twisted to fit agendas. Many times it is being completely thrown out and trampled upon. Lord, heal out land!

Ask yourself a question; how do you treat the Word of God in your life? Maybe the Bible is something that you only hear the preacher talk about. Is it something that you don't even put any thought into until Sunday? Just another accessory as you head to church? Perhaps you turn to it just when you need it, like a spare tire. Or maybe you're a true student of the Word, an essential part of your day.

The book of Acts describes a few cities who reacted to God's Word differently. In one city, they rejected it completely. In another they were intrigued by it, never fully accepting or rejecting it. In yet another we see a group of people who were student's of God's Word.

Which of these groups of people do you identify with? Search your heart, and turn to the Word!
