VYS0044 | For Fear of Little Men - Vayse to Face with Jo Hickey-Hall - Show notes

They've talked of night-time scaries,

Bravely, valiantly, courageously, boldly confronting a topic that they have avoided delving into for the past two years, Hine and Buckley take a trip into the terrifying world of fairies with their guide, researcher podcaster and author, Jo Hickey-Hall, creator and host of the hugely successful Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast. Jo talks beautifully on the subject and the conversation flits magically around the topic on gossamer wings and a cloud of enchanted dust: what exactly are fairies? Where did the common "Tinkerbell" trope come from? Do fairy sightings herald a transitional period in the life of the observer? Are some humans part fae? Can anyone see fairies? Just how frightened should we be of the fae?... and what do Pukwudgies, puppets, pork-pie hats and the Monster Munch monsters have in common? (Recorded 11 November 2024)

Since October 2023, Vayse HQ has been regularly receiving mysterious, confusing and unsettling emails, seemingly from all over the world, all hinting towards the same impossible conclusion.

In this episode the Vayse boys launch an investigation into where these weird communications might be coming from and who might be behind them with a little help and a lot of expertise from some familiar and very welcome faces: Douglas Batchelor, Darragh Mason, Sequoyah Kennedy, Joseph Matheny, Stephanie Quick and AP Strange. The deeper they dig, the more they find themselves falling down rabbit holes within rabbit holes within rabbit holes... (Recorded October 2024)

VYS0043 | The Reich Stuff - Vayse to Face with Dan Lowe - Show Notes

Facing down a huge topic that they have been wanting to talk about on Vayse for years, Hine and Buckley enlist integrative therapist Dan Lowe, to guide them through the massively dense, often confusing and incredibly weird life and work of Wilhem Reich.

Dan is massively knowledgeable on the subject and gives fascinating insights on Reich and is patient when Hine and Buckley asking him what can only be frustratingly basic questions: What differentiates Reichian therapy from other types of psychotherapy? What is Orgone Energy? What is emotional armouring? Was there a conspiracy against Reich? Did cloud-busting really work?... and what did Kate Bush actually know about Wilhelm Reich anyway...? (Recorded 29 August 2024)

Thanks to Dan for indulging us in asking questions on a subject that we know next to nothing about and thanks as always to Keith for the show notes - give the man a follow: @peakflow.bsky.social

VYS0042 | Grinding Out Some Low-End - Vayse to Face with Aidan Wachter - Show Notes

Somehow stumbling into a third season knowing less than when they started, Hine and Buckley welcome a guest that has been top of the Vasye-most-wanted-list since the podcast's inception - witch, dirt sorcerer, magician, animist and author, Aidan Wachter. Aidan skilfully and eloquently answers questions on some big topics: are some people naturally more able to connect to magic than others? How do you tune into the more subtle communications when working with spirits? What separates Aidan's practice, beliefs and faith from those of a conventionally religious practice? How can a solitary magical practice serve the wider community? ...and whatever happened to the Black Squid Cult? (Recorded 22 August 2024)

VYS0041 | Technologies of Imagination - Vayse to Face with Bel Senlle - Show Notes

In the final episode of season 2, Hine and Buckley talk to a guest who ended up on Vayse after she appeared to Hine in a dream: Bel Senlle - artist, tarot reader, flower herbalist and creator of one of the most stylish and magical tarot decks that money can buy, the Clarity Deck. The discussion runs all the way from whether divination is reliable or deceitful, the question of whether tarot is supernatural or psychological, how Bel created the clarity deck and how she may have had some help from the other side, Bel does a reading for Vayse... and we finally try to get to the bottom of why a certain card is haunting Buckley... Despite a case of Covid, political turmoil and relentlessly terrible weather Hine and Buckley bring their weird game for a catch-up conversation based on listener questions. The Vayse cadets consider the burning issues of these uncertain times: how do you rate and compare cryptids? (and is it fair to do that?) Can science ever fully explain the paranormal? Are hoaxes ever ok? (and which of the Vayse boys is a serial hoaxer?) and Hine describes the dream that guided him to the guest for the upcoming season 2 finale... (Recorded 4 July 2024)

VYS0040 | The Great Ping-Ping - Vayse to Face with OORYA - Show Notes

Artist, poet, noise maker, purveyor of queer-electro-folk-punk and fellow northerner, OORYA, joins Hine and Buckley in an explosion of joy, weirdness and super-infectious hyper-manipulation of the English Language. OORYA explains their unique view of the "Vinyl Universe", how they dance with the great ping-ping to make their life more magical and how you can do the same, how their live performances become a channeling of their deepest spine, how licking the void is an essential part of levelling up, what it means to them to be a queer artist... and prepare to receive some sonic healing from their beautiful vocal stims... (Recorded 25 June 2024)

VYS0039 | Try Not To Be A Dick Shall Be The Whole Of The Law - Vayse to Face with Duncan Barford - Show Notes

After a 3 month break, Vayse returns for an interview with a person who inspired the podcast before it was even a podcast - writer, podcaster and psychodynamic psychotherapeutic counsellor, Duncan Barford. Duncan's book Occult Experiments in the Home was a major influence on Hine and Buckley's views on magick and mysticism but for this interview they zero in on aspects of his career as a therapist, focusing on mental health and how this can affect and be affected by the occult and occult practices: Why do so many prominent figures in magick seem to have mental health issues or addictions? Where do you draw the line between mystical experience and mental health disorder? How do you maintain a magical practice when your mental health isn't good? Is it safe to have a magical practice at all? and most importantly... what kind of deep-seated psychological damage is preventing Hine from remembering the name of Duncan's new book? (Recorded 12 June 2024).

VYS0038 | Fuck Capitalism! - Vayse to Face with Rob Kristoffersen - Show Notes

Unable to put off dedicating an episode to the UFO mystery any longer, Hine and Buckley welcome researcher, podcaster and writer Rob Kristoffersen. Rob is the creator and host of the incredibly popular podcast Our Strange Skies: UFOs Throughout History, co-creator of the web-comic Welcome UFO People and expert on all things extra-terrestrial, ultra-terrestrial, crypto-terrestrial and any other form in which the phenomenon may choose to manifest. Rob talks about his own weird experiences and Hine and Buckley waste no time in asking him the questions that keep them awake at night: What exactly is it that people are seeing when they see UFOs? Are UFO and alien encounters a range of different experiences and phenomena or are they all the same thing viewed through different lenses? What's the deal with Whitley Strieber and what the deal with Jacques Vallée? Is there a connection between UFOs and death? What's really behind the whole Disclosure movement? Which Cryptid has the best PR person? and what does Rob really think about capitalism...? (Recorded 4 March 2024)
