In other regions tuesday is the day for worshipping Lord Ganesha as well as Lord Hanuman. Most devotees visit shrines on tuesdays. • Monday Chants:Shlokas to chant on Monday for Lords Shiva & Ganesha. Commentary on benefits of this worship in english.

The shlokas in Sanskrit for the Gods Shiva and Ganesha:

    Sri Ganesha:

    1. Gajananam

    2. Vakratunda

    3. Mooshika vahana

    Sri Shiva:

    1. Karpura gouram

    2. Namastestu bhagavan

    3. Om tryambakam

These are the 2 deities who are worshipped on Monday. While there is no ban on worshipping any god daily, it is considered beneficial to worship certain Gods on each day of the week. The vibrations of each day have a resonance with the type of deity we meditate upon. 3 shlokas each for Lord Shiva and Ganesha, have been recited 3 times each While 3 is an auspicious number for the repetition of any shloka or mantra, it is also the number the brain recognises as a piece of information worthy of storage for a longer duration. Therefore it aids in memorising the shloka.

  • Ramanavami special-Ramashtakam: 8 verse sanskrit stotra praising Lord Rama as the Supreme Universal Consciousness. Composed by Maharshi Veda Vyasa.

Sri Rama was the avatara of Sri MahaVishnu. He appeared as a prince and was subject to a very tough life from an early age. He lived among the people as one of them and showed the path of Dharma by never once straying from this path of righteous conduct. An ideal Son, Student, Friend, Brother, husband and above all a n ideal Ruler. For this reason he is also called the Maryada Purushottama.

Rama Navami is when hindus from all around the world celebrate this great avatara's birthday. Ramanavami falls on the "shukla paksha navami of the chaitra masa". This means the 9th lunar day of the growing phase of the Moon in the lunar month of Chaitra. For thousands of years this day hasd been celebrated by hindus and it has never lost it's importance or charm for the single reason that Rama shines as an example of exemplary behaviour to this day.

  • Shivaratri Special: learn this simple and unique Tamizh chant and teach it to your children

Wishing everyone a very auspicious shivaratri.

I had learnt this stotram very early in life. It has seen me through thick and thin. Easy to learn and very powerful, this stotram chant be chanted at night before sleep or in the morning along with daily prayers or repeatedly on festive days like Shivaratri.

The stream means that the whole of Creation is manifest in the form of this mantra- Om namah shivaya”. It is an Eternal mantra which resonates in space and brings forth the beauty of Creation and all it’s forces and possibilities. It is Ishwara itself, and it can be realised as a shining force within the heart by Yogis. The Vedas too vouch for this sacred mantra and it is the most ancient of them all, says this stotram. The meaning is explained in teh video. You can see it on spotify or youtube on the "Vedikheritage" channel.

  • Busting the Myth of Muhurtha- Introduction

What is a Muhurtha? Are we being superstitious when we look for a Muhurtha to get married or sanctify a new house or to name a baby? Come explore with me the logic behind this practice and enquire if it is based on Science.

The intention here is to Introduce the topic of Jyotisha and to understand if it is a field of knowledge or a superstition . As a novice, I will discuss the basis of this field and try to explain it, without going into too many details.

The objective of this series is to dispel the misconceptions regarding this ancient field and to help practicing hindus understand why they observe Jyotisha in the important moments of their lives. Modern education contradicts many traditional beliefs and Jyotisha is a field which has no modern equivalent for comparison. Western Astrology is very different from Indian one and Jyotisha is much more tha just astrology.

  • Meditative Chant -Shadanana-ashtakam:8 verses by Agastya Muni on Sri Karthikeya.
Thai is the first Solar month in the period of Uttarayana according to the Tamizh calendar. The complete month of Thai is therefore considered an auspicious month.
Thai Pusam is the day Pusam or Pushya Nakshatra presides in this month, It also mostly coincides with the full moon day or Purnima of this month. It is on this day that Parvati Devi is said to have gifted Her son Sri Karthikeya the divine lance “Vel”, in order to destroy the asura brothers namely, Sura Padma, Simha Mukha, Tarakasura and their army including a cousin Kraunchasura.
Shad- anana means six faced. Karthikeya is said to have 6 faces and is also referred to as Shanmukha. This Stotram is recited by Sage Agastya in praise of Sri Karthikeya in Skanda Purana, one of the 18 Mahapuranas.
Karthikeya is the favoured deity in the Southern States of India in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. This festival is celebrated with great fervour by Tamizhs all around the world.

  • Vishnu Shatpadi: Stotra for Moksha by Sri Adi Shankaracharya- The meaning has been explained in English in detail.

Shatpadi- 6 Verses on Sri Vishnu describing Him as the Supreme One Who can bestow on us Eternal Bliss and Moksha.

Srimad Adi Shankaracharya(788-820CE) even though he was a proponent of Advaita philosophy, is famous for his compositions on many deities. He composed this stotra on Sri Vishnu, asking for His help in crossing the Ocean of Samsara. Samsara is the recurring cycle of birth and death and the only way out of this cycle is to attain realisation. This exit requires not only effort from our side, but also the grace of the Supreme Divinity in the form that we approach It, Shiva, Vishnu or Devi.

The Chant is available separately as an episode.

  • Chant -Vishnu Shatpadi: Stotra for Moksha by Sri Adi Shankaracharya
The Vishnu Shatpadi stotram has been composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya in praise of Sri Vishnu. Srimad Adi Shankaracharya is famous for many compositions on many deities. Even though he was a proponent of Advaita philosophy, he has composed this stotra on Sri Vishnu, who is followed by Vaishnavas, followers of the Dvaita philosophy.
Shatpadi means 6 verses. Shatpadi also refers to a honey bee as Shat means 6 & Padi means Footed. In this stotra Sri Vishnu is described as having a Lotus face and Lotus feet, symbolising beauty and purity. And like a honey bee, this Shatpadi is that which can draw honey from the Lotus. In other words it means that chanting the Shatpadi can lead one to attaining the essence of Sri Vishnu, which is Moksha.
The stotra praises Sri Vishnu and asking for His help in crossing the Ocean of Samsara. Samsara is the recurring cycle of birth and death and the only way out of this cycle is to attain realisation. This exit requires not only effort from our side, but also the grace of the Supreme Divinity in the form that we approach It.
There are 2 types of meters in sanskrit verse, Akshara Chandas and Matra Chandas. In Akshara Chandas the number of syllables are fixed per pada or quarter of the shloka. Eg: Anushtup Chandas.
In Matra chandas, while the syllables may differ, the mAtras are fixed. This Stotra is composed in the Matra Chandas called Arya.
