Vikings vs Lions - GMG In The Raw!

Listen Later

Vikings vs Lions… Good morning Horners! What a fantastic win and great way to start your week! Your Minnesota Vikings had their best offensive performance of the season defeating the Detroit Lions 42-30. Ted, Drew and Dave got together to discuss it right after the game. Kevin Stefanski called a brilliant game against Matt Patricia’s squad, Even though the first half was a back and forth affair, Kirk Cousins “willed” [as Ted put it] the Vikings to a win setting the Vikes now at 5-2 for the season and in a solid second place in the division. This being the last division road game, and with all three home games left on the schedule, things are looking better for their prospects to get to the playoffs, something Vikings fans all want.
Cousins was again outstanding for the third game in a row, throwing for 337 yard and 4TDs. Those touchdowns were spread around to Adam Thielen [on a superb catch in the back of the endzone], Kyle Rudolph, Bisi Johnson and C.J. Ham. Stefon Diggs had the biggest yards day with 142 receiving to add to that too. But the offense wasn’t all passes either, with Dalvin Cook having 142 yards and 2 TDs of his own on the ground and the team 166. The game calling was almost a perfect split between the run and pass working to near perfection against the Lions defense. The offensive line was a huge part of that keeping folks clean most of the time.
Matt Stafford had way too many yards [364] and made the game close for the first 3 quarters. The Vikings defense, and Xavier Rhodes in particular, allowed Marvin Jones to have his first 4 TD reception game of his career. On a day when the the defense wasn’t their normal stingy self, it didn’t matter because the offense made up for it. That is a nice thing to see and one that is unusual for a Mike Zimmer team to date. It is quite refreshing and bodes well for the future. All smiles and tons of laughs ahead on this short week as the team gets ready for the Washington Redskins at US Bank Stadium Thursday night. Prime Time Purple baby!
