  • Agent 146: Spying For The Third Reich
"Knowledge is power," wrote the English philosopher Sir Francis Bacon. And that's the essence of what spying is all about, attaining information, and therefore, power over an adversary. During World War II, the Abwehr, Germany's intelligence service, made numerous attempts to infiltrate the United States with spies. Usually dropped off by a U-Boat, their mission was to commit acts of sabotage and to gather top-secret intelligence that would help Germany win the war. But most of the time, they failed. For the first time, in a "War Stories" exclusive, you'll meet Agent 146, Erich Gimpel, a former German spy, and Allan Gillies, the FBI agent who ultimately captured him. Find out how they played a dangerous game of cat and mouse in the bustling streets of New York City. In this thrilling episode of "War Stories with Oliver North," you'll also hear how the FBI and OSS fought their own war in the shadows to overcome rivalries and to stop those who came to do us harm. This is the story of a spy for the Third Reich and those who caught him. Check out these other free FOX News podcasts! • Anzio
The Italian town of Anzio, located on the Mediterranean Sea, was the birthplace of Roman Emperors Caligula and Nero. A tranquil agricultural area in the fall of 1943, it would become the site of one of the longest and bloodiest battles of World War II. From January to May 1944, the seemingly unbreakable German line that blocked all roads to Rome. At Anzio young men lost their limbs, their lives and their innocence. Hand-to-hand combat, living in water filled trenches, and deadly artillery barrages were just part of the daily routine. The enemy could be and usually was anywhere and everywhere. Each time the Allies made some progress it seemed that German Field Marshall Albert Kesselring came right back and inflicted more punishment and devastation on the Allied troops. By its end, the Allied casualties would exceed 60,000. This episode of "War Stories with Oliver North" brings you the personal memories of the men who lived through the Italian campaign of 1944. Their stories are of resilience and epic bravery and of triumph in the face of defeat during the bloodiest stalemate of World War II, the battle of Anzio. • Friends and Enemies: Japanese-Americans During World War II
On February 19, 1942 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066: a controversial decree that resulted in the confinement of 120,000 civilians of Japanese descent. But from this dark chapter in our nation's history emerged one of the little-known stories of World War II, that of the Japanese-American soldier. In this thought-provoking episode of "War Stories with Oliver North," you'll learn about the men of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and Military Intelligence Service who overcame racism and prejudice to prove their loyalty to America. This unit earned over 18,000 individual decorations during the course of the war. You'll meet MIS soldier Roy Matsumoto, who volunteered from a relocation camp to spy on the enemy in Burma. At the same time, his two brothers served in the Japanese Imperial Army. We'll also take you on an audio journey through the mountains of Europe as 442nd veterans Yuki Minaga and George Sakato brave enemy fire and risk life and limb to save their brothers in arms of "The Lost Battalion." And in a rare interview, Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta talks about being a ten-year boy when he and his family were interned for over a year at Heart Mountain relocation center in Wyoming. This is the story of some 20,000 Japanese Americans who were determined to serve with honor and distinction and earned the right to be called real "American heroes." • The Attack Of The Japanese Midget Subs
President Roosevelt said December 7, 1941 was "a date which will live in infamy." He was right. Japan's attack on U.S. forces in the Pacific changed America forever: 2,403 Americans were killed, 21 warships were sunk or damaged and the bombing of six airfields catapulted the United States into WWII. But what you may not know is that prior to the air attack on that peaceful Sunday morning, the Japanese Imperial Navy launched a secret weapon -- five midget submarines. Their goal was to sneak into Pearl Harbor and torpedo our fleet. As you will hear, what actually happened to those midget submarines is now rewriting history. In this revealing episode of "War Stories with Oliver North," you'll meet one of the Japanese submariners who launched a midget sub and believed in death before defeat. You'll hear of the midget submarine that lies 1,200 feet down in its watery grave, sunk by the USS Ward and her brave sailors an hour before the air attack. This amazing discovery proves that the first casualties of the Pacific War were Japanese. Check out these other free FOX News podcasts! • Deception In The Pacific
At 7:55 a.m. on December 7, 1941 the Japanese launched a savage attack on Pearl Harbor from the sky and from the sea. In less than two hours, more than 300 U.S. aircraft were wrecked, 21 U.S. Navy ships damaged or sunk and more than 2400 Americans lay dead or dying. Now more than 60 years after the attack questions still remain about who should bear the burden of blame for the catastrophe at Pearl Harbor. Was it simply a colossal intelligence failure, a lack of readiness or, as some claim, part of a secret plot at the top of the U.S. government to get America into World War II? Was the raid really a total surprise? You'll be shocked to hear how much intelligence was gathered about Japan's war plans. And we will explore how and why this intelligence was not more fully shared with Admiral Husband E. Kimmel, commander in chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Why did General Douglas MacArthur, commander in chief United States Army Forces Far East, headquartered in the Philippines, receive a "magic" decoding machine and Admiral Kimmel did not? In this episode of "War Stories Investigates with Oliver North," we'll explore the secrets, the evidence and the controversy surrounding the attacks. You'll hear from Robert Stinnett, who says that FDR wanted Pearl Harbor to be bombed to get America into World War II. He cites recently de-classified documents, to lend support to his theory. You'll also hear from Tom Kimmel, grandson of Admiral Kimmel, who explains why he believes that his grandfather became the chief scapegoat for the success of the Japanese attack. And in a rare interview, you'll meet Lt Zenji Abe. As a Japanese bomber pilot, he didn't find out that his country's attack was a surprise till 20 years after World War II had ended.
