  • 5 Empowering Body Image Tips – Warrior Mind Podcast #596

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to go over 5 Body Image Tips from Fitness Experts and how they affect your success.

5 Empowering Body Image Tips from Fitness Experts

Fitness experts see a variety of body image issues in their classes and gyms every day. They have important lessons about how people perceive their own bodies and the bodies of others.

The way you view your body is important for overall health and fitness.

Use these strategies to develop a positive body image and gain the advantage of stronger mental and physical health:

    * Understand why body image matters. How do you feel after you look in the mirror? Do you love your body, or are you constantly searching for new flaws?

    * It’s easy to become preoccupied with external appearances. Do you see every flaw and feel imperfect? Do you worry about how others perceive you? Your mind forms your opinions of body images.

    * Body image issues are tied to self-esteem and confidence. They’re also part of overall emotional health, so unhealthy opinions can have a strong negative impact on your life.

Enjoy this Podcast on 5 Empowering Body Image Tips from Fitness Experts

More on How 5 Empowering Body Image Tips from Fitness Experts

    * Challenge stereotypes. Fitness experts see a huge variety of body shapes and sizes. The human body is not restricted to a specific mold. Everyone isn’t the same height or weight. Accepting this variety will help you to challenge stereotypes related to body image.

    * It’s important to understand that one body type isn’t the correct way to exist. There is no ideal weight, height, or shape on the planet. The universe has created a variety of shapes and sizes for a reason. Diversity makes things more fun and avoids boredom.

    * It’s also crucial to understand that exercise doesn’t produce the same results in each person. One person may lose weight faster, and another may gain muscle slower.

    * The stereotype of a stick-thin model or muscular man has to change. Fitness experts recommend avoiding these stereotypes and focusing on your own body. What do you think is your ideal shape?

    * Find positive role models. A good role model can help guide you to better health.

    * Your fitness instructor could make a good role model, but there are also other options. Do you watch in awe as 90-year old women exercise in the park? Do you admire your disabled neighbor for still finding a way to stay in shape?

    * Positive role models don’t have to come out of magazines, television shows, or gyms. They can be normal people who stay in shape and love their bodies. They don’t have to be triathletes to inspire you.

    * A positive role model can help you to see how a good body image can help make life better.

    * Focus on healthy eating. A negative body image can lead to eating disorders and other concerns. Fitness experts report seeing these issues often in their classes.

    * Obsessive calorie counting and worrying can be a serious issue. In addition, they see punishments for messing up a diet or eating something sweet. All of these issues are linked to a poor body image.

  • Decision Fatigue And Fitness – Warrior Mind Podcast #595

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to go over How Decision Fatigue Affects Your Fitness Journey and can affect other parts of your life.

How Decision Fatigue Affects Your Fitness Journey

The term ‘decision fatigue’ is not very common and most people are unaware of it. Wikipedia’s definition is, “decision fatigue refers to the deteriorating quality of decisions made by an individual after a long session of decision making.”

In simpler words, it just means an individual gets tired when he has to constantly make decisions and end up making poorer decisions. This is one reason why top leaders and entrepreneurs wear clothes that look the same every single day.

The most famous example is Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, who wears the same grey t-shirts daily.

Another example is former President Obama who once quoted, “I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.”

Enjoy this Podcast on How Decision Fatigue Affects Your Fitness Journey

More on How Decision Fatigue Affects Your Fitness Journey

So why are they doing this?

    * Keeping the main thing the main thing

One reason why they reduce the number of decisions they make is so that they can stay focused on the issues that matter. If you’re expending mental energy on countless decisions throughout the day, you’re going to be exhausted without realizing it.

Your willpower will be lower, and you’ll be more prone to temptations and give in easily. Picture your mind as a finite storehouse of energy. Every single day when you wake up, you have a fixed amount of mental energy to use.

Resisting food temptations, exercising self-discipline to go for your workout instead of skipping it, and many other activities require mental energy. As you use it throughout the day, it gets depleted.

As it gets later in the day, you’re more tired and succumb to taking the path of least resistance more easily. This is one reason why people binge eat at night and/or skip their evening workout sessions. They just can’t summon the mental energy required to stay on track.

    * Preventing decision fatigue

The first step to preventing decision fatigue is to have a plan. Ideally, you should have a meal plan for the entire month. This will ensure that you know exactly what to eat daily. All guesswork and decision making are taken out of the equation. You know that if you stick to the plan, you’ll lose weight and get healthier.

The second step will be to prepare all your meals for the week at one go on a Sunday. So, you only make buying decisions once a week and expend energy cooking once a week. The rest of the days you just eat what you’ve prepared and stored in the refrigerator.

This same approach should apply to your training sessions. You must know exactly what you’re going to do before you even step into the gym. Don’t just walk aimlessly around the gym using any old weight machine you stumble upon.

Have a plan and execute it. Take all thinking out of the process. You need to be like a robot following a plan that will lead you to success.

  • Discover Your Inner Warrior – Warrior Mind Podcast #594

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to go over some tips to help you discover your inner warrior to crush it in work, life and sport!

    Discover Your Inner Warrior

Have you ever wanted to do something, but your fear kept you from going for it? Or maybe you just felt like you didn’t have the time or energy. Do you wonder what it would take to enable you to muster up the strength and courage to go after your dreams?

Thankfully, you can pursue whatever you want in life by putting some simple strategies to work that will reveal your inner warrior!

Use these strategies to help you create the life you desire:

    * Get acquainted with your physical strength. Pumping some iron will help you recognize your physical strength, which is an important step to revealing your inner strength. If you love aerobics, get your heart pumping and do them with a vengeance, as long as your doctor approves.* If you’re interested in improving your balance and flexibility, practice yoga to strengthen those. The point is that feeling physically strong will help you go after your dreams in other aspects of your life. Think of yourself as a warrior-in-training.

Know that you can do it. Just like the children’s story, “The Little Engine that Could,” so, too, can you do what you desire. You must know and believe, deep down inside yourself, that you can achieve your greatest dreams.

Enjoy this Podcast on how to discover your inner warrior!

More on how to discover your inner warrior.

    * Keep your focus. Sure, you’ve got to go to work, raise your family, and live your life in the here and now. However, stay focused on your dreams by keeping reminders in your car, bedroom, living room, and briefcase or purse. Make a vision board with images and words about your goals and dreams and hang it on a wall where you’ll see it often.* Refuse to let anyone or anything stop you. If you’re 35 years old and you still want to go to college, start taking courses one at a time during your off-work time. If people say, “You’re too old for that” or, “You’ve already got a job. There’s no need for that,” just ignore them. A warrior is single-minded, and isn’t deterred by others’ perspectives.* Educate yourself thoroughly. Do you want to move to California so you can surf on the weekends? Read everything you can about the California coastline, the cities and towns found along the ocean, and the locales for the best surfing. Study it. Learn all there is to know about the area. The more you know, the more you can do.* Allot time in your week. Take small steps each week. For example, if your dream involves visiting all 50 states in the US, start by planning time to create a budget that allows you to visit 2 states a year: one relatively close by and the other further away.* Also, schedule time to research the 2 states you plan to visit this year. This strategy is closely related to keeping your focus (#3) because if you’re regularly allotting time to work toward your goals, the minutes you spend on doing related activities will bring you closer to the dreams that are your focus. A wise warrior plans ahead.* Share your goals with your friends and family members. They’ll most likely be interested and thrilled that you’re going after what you want in life. They might even be inspired to try to fulfill their own dreams.* Love yourself. A concept that sounds simple yet is incredibly complex,

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to go over 15 Brain Boosting Activities for self-mastery and peak performance.

    15 Brain Boosting Activities

If you don’t keep your mind active, studies show that your brain loses some of its functionality as you age, which causes memory loss, brain fog, and even Alzheimer’s.

A well-stimulated brain also elevates your mood, which helps you feel better on the inside.

Here are 15 brain boosting activities:

    * Play games that challenge and stimulate your mind. These include:* Picture Puzzles* Strategy Games* Crossword Puzzles* Card Games* Deduction Games (such as Clue)* Visualization Puzzles* Optical Illusions

    * Reading stimulates the brain as it activates your imagination. Reading also helps with memory retention and problem solving, especially if you’re reading a mystery. Also, self-help books stimulate your brain by helping you to think for yourself, as well as find solutions in your mind.* Exercising helps circulate blood that carries oxygen to your brain. Over the long-term, exercise is proven to increase brainpower and even create new neurons.

More on 15 Brain Boosting Activities

    * Stimulate your brain with meditation. Meditation has been shown to increase your IQ, relieve stress, and promote a higher level of brain functioning. Meditation also stimulates the prefrontal cortex of the brain, the area of the brain responsible for advanced thinking, ability and performance.* Deep breathing helps deliver oxygen to your brain. Oxygen helps you be more alert and awake. As little as 10 to 15 minutes of deep breathing daily can increase brain functionality.* Taking fish oil supplements is literally like membrane material for the brain. The two primary components in fish oil, DHA and EPA, strengthen the emotional center of the brain and boost focus.* Studies have proven that listening to music strengthens the right hemisphere of the brain and actually changes the structure of it. Also, people who listen to music are shown to be more emotionally intelligent than those who don’t.* Writing improves memory and thought expression. Writing articles, blogs, or journal entries stimulates thought processes, which also enhances brain function.* Sleep clears out brain clutter and reduces brain fog. When you don’t get enough sleep at night, your memory and normal brain function suffers.* Painting is shown to be an effective brain booster in that it sparks the creativity within you. Even if you’ve never tried painting before, give it a shot. You’ll find that you feel more creative and may actually enjoy it.* Starting the day out with a good breakfast has been proven to supply energy to the brain and body for the whole day. When you skip breakfast, you’re missing out on a powerful edge, both physically and mentally.* Walking allows you to clear your mind and thoughts. Not only is it good exercise for your body, walking gives your brain a chance to wander freely, clearing it of any troublesome thoughts.* Drink a serving of pure fruit juice. Fruit juice contains nutrients that revitalize and refresh the brain. Juices to drink are pomegranate, blueberry, and cranberry as they deliver more focus and energy.* Students who drink some caffeine before an exam typically have higher scores than those who don’t. This is because caffeine stimulates

  • 5 Ways To Focus on Your Goal – Warrior Mind Podcast #592

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to go discuss 5 Ways To Focus on Your Goal for personal growth and peak performance.

5 Ways To Focus on Your Goal

Life is nothing but an obstacle course, it’s all about getting through that obstacle course to your desired goal that most people seem to have a problem with. It’s only normal to encounter obstacles in the pursuit of your goal. It’s kind of a test to see if you’re worthy.

However, when these obstacles start to become a nuisance to the point of almost putting a stop to your goal(s); or worse, making one completely abandon his/her goal, one must take action and think things through.

So, with that said, here are some helpful, tested pointers that will keep your attention focused in achieving any goal that you put your mind to.

    1. Think Positive

This means: Do not quit. Especially when one is midway in working for a goal, there should be no room for quitting.

To quit is tantamount to going back to the starting line of goal accomplishment. That is time, energy, money, and a whole lot of things wasted and lost. It is more costly to quit than to find a solution to the problem, not to mention the frustration one feels.

Enjoy this Podcast on 5 Ways To Focus on Your Goal

More on 5 Ways To Focus on Your Goal

    2. Keep a clear, open and tense-free mind

Always be ready to receive new ideas. Focus and concentrate. Think in a wide scale manner and always be open to new options to eliminate the particular obstacle you are currently dealing with.

    3. Persist and Persevere

Be sure to exhaust every possibility, even to the point of trial and error, just to be sure that there is a solution to correct the problem you’re dealing with.

    4. Imagination

Try to picture inside your head a possible solution to help overcome and/or solve the obstacle that’s setting you back.

    5. Ask for Help

If all fails, get assistance from others you know who are more knowledgeable on the work being done. Their suggestions might not necessarily be the exact ones you were hoping to hear, but they may trigger some NEW ideas in finding the right solution to your problem.

  • 10 Traits of Mentally Strong People – Warrior Mind Podcast #591

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to go review 10 Traits of Mentally Strong People for personal growth and peak performance.

10 Traits of Mentally Strong People

These are the people who inspire me! I’ve studied them, and I’ve noticed they have the following traits in common:

    * They work hard! Yes, they play hard, too! They get up early, they rarely complain, they expect performance from others, but they expect extraordinary performance from themselves. Repeated, high-level success starts with a recognition that hard work pays off.

    * They are incredibly curious and eager to learn. They study, ask questions and read – constantly! An interesting point, however: While most of them did well in school, the difference is that they apply or take advantage of what they learn. Repeated success is not about memorizing facts, it’s about being able to take information and create, build, or apply it in new and important ways. Successful people want to learn everything about everything!

    * They network. They know lots of people, and they know lots of different kinds of people. They listen to friends, neighbors, co-workers and bartenders. They don’t have to be “the life of the party”, in fact many are quiet, even shy, but they value people and they value relationships. Successful people have a rolodex full of people who value their friendship and return their calls.

    * They work on themselves and never quit! While the “overnight wonders” become arrogant and quickly disappear, really successful people work on their personality, their leadership skills, management skills, and every other detail of life. When a relationship or business deal goes sour, they assume they can learn from it and they expect to do better next time. Successful people don’t tolerate flaws; they fix them!

Enjoy this Podcast on 10 Traits of Mentally Strong People

More on 10 Traits of Mentally Strong People

    * They are extraordinarily creative. They go around asking, “Why not?” They see new combinations, new possibilities, new opportunities and challenges where others see problems or limitations. They wake up in the middle of the night yelling, “I’ve got it!” They ask for advice, try things out, consult experts and amateurs, always looking for a better, faster, cheaper solution. Successful people create stuff1

    * They are self-reliant and take responsibility. Incredibly successful people don’t worry about blame, and they don’t waste time complaining. They make decisions and move on. Sometimes they are criticized for taking this to extremes – Jimmy Carter carried his own briefcase and a President “shouldn’t” do that! Extremely successful people take the initiative and accept the responsibilities of success.

    * They are usually relaxed and keep their perspective. Even in times of stress or turmoil, highly successful people keep their balance, they know the value of timing, humor, and patience. They rarely panic or make decisions on impulse. Unusually successful people breathe easily, ask the right questions, and make sound decisions, even in a crisis.

    * Extremely successful people live in the present moment. They know that “Now” is the only time they can control. They have a “gift” for looking people in the eye,

  • Ready, Set, Change! – Warrior Mind Podcast #590

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to go discuss the concept of Ready, Set, Change for personal growth and peak performance.

    Ready, Set, Change!

I was at work one day, calling on a customer who wasn’t answering her phone. Her voice mail message started out in the usual way, “…we’re not home, leave a message…” what followed was not so usual. It continued, “…by the way, we’ve recently made some changes in our life, if we don’t call you back, you’re one of the changes, beeeep”.

My first reaction was disbelief at what was probably one of the rudest messages I had ever heard (and I’ve heard quite a few!). But I couldn’t get it off my mind, and by the end of the day I had changed my perspective. I began to admire this woman, who was obviously at the end of her rope. She was very determined, for whatever reason, to end relationships that were affecting her life in a negative way.

Change is never easy, especially when it requires us to dramatically alter the way we’ve become accustomed to living our lives. Leaving our comfort zone, no matter how much we dislike it, requires a combination of bravery and determination, as well as education in that area.

Many times, we’re so desperate to better ourselves, we hastily make ineffective and, sometimes expensive, decisions that we feel will quickly produce the results we are looking for. Purchasing a costly gym membership and vowing to attend seven days a week while surviving on lettuce, may seem like a great idea for a few weeks (if you’re very determined,) but how long can you live like that?

Enjoy this Podcast on Ready, Set, Change!

    More on Ready, Set, Change!

If you’re serious about making a long-term change in your life, take these steps to ensure your success:

    1. Educate Yourself

Aside from determination, education is the most important key to your success. Knowing exactly what you must do to accomplish your goals will give you the power to make them a reality. Consult a professional or check out a book written by a credible authority on the subject. You can also tap the wealth of information to be found on the Internet. Friends and acquaintances can also provide insight. I have a good friend who is very organized, an area in which I am always trying to improve. Over the years I have learned a great deal from watching her manage her incredibly busy life.

    2. Set Reasonable Goals

You are not going to lose 30 pounds in two weeks. Nor are you going to undo years of financial irresponsibility in six months. After becoming educated, you will get a realistic picture of how long it will be before you should expect to see results. Having this knowledge upfront will prevent you from giving up too soon.

    3. Plan and Track

If you’re trying to accomplish something that requires long-term commitment, purchase a journal or notebook to write down your short and long term goals. Detail how you will carry them out and when you will complete them. Check each item off as you accomplish it. Keeping a journal to record your achievements can be motivating on those days when you feel like sliding back to your old ways.

    4. Just Say No

Avoid situations that will prevent you from accomplishing your goals.

  • The Secrets to Finding Yourself – Warrior Mind Podcast #589

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to go discuss The Secret to Finding Yourself for personal growth and peak performance.

    The Secret to Finding Yourself

Trying to find yourself has gotten a mixed reputation. It can be a convenient excuse when you want to break up with someone without mentioning the real reasons. It can also be a diversion from accepting responsibilities, like doing your share of household chores or getting a job.

On the other hand, figuring out who you are and what you need to do in order to have a fulfilling life could be the most important and satisfying questions you’ll ever answer.

If you’re sincere about self-discovery, try these suggestions to guide you in your search.

     What to Look For:

    * Clarify your values. Knowing your values helps you to make sound decisions and prioritize your activities. Consider how your values relate to your daily life. Look for opportunities to live in agreement with them. Summarize your philosophy into a personal values statement you can refer to when needed.

Enjoy this Podcast on The Secret to Finding Yourself

More on The Secret to Finding Yourself

    * Understand your strengths. Do you know where your talents lie and what you feel passionate about? You’ll accomplish greater things with less stress when you choose a path that lets you leverage your main assets.

    * Build support. Finding yourself is tough work. You’ll need a sturdy network of family, friends, and colleagues you can rely on for advice and support. Being generous about sharing your resources with others increases the likelihood that they’ll want to do the same for you.* Create flow states. What activities boost your energy levels and make you lose track of time? Whether you love playing the piano or solving physics equations, chances are these flow states will suggest the fields in which you can excel.* Set goals. Having a destination in mind guides your steps and keeps you on track. Where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?

    Where to Look:

    * Listen to yourself. Finding yourself is about living authentically. Pay attention to what your mind and body are telling you. Notice when you feel engaged and when you feel lost. Is there a pattern behind these situations?* Accept your feelings. Acknowledge your emotions, even when they cause you discomfort. Trying to suppress the truth will backfire and produce more stress. When you accept your anger or sorrow, you can start thinking about positive options for dealing with it.* Ask your friends. While you’re cultivating self-knowledge, you may benefit from listening to how others view you. Their feedback may point out qualities and habits that you overlook.* Keep a journal. Writing about your journey encourages you to learn and grow. Recording your activities and insights regularly can help you to find solutions to personal challenges and build your self-esteem.* Read literature. Observing how characters in movies and novels behave may teach you how to handle similar events in your own life. You may find yourself viewing a long-standing conflict in a new light or experimenting with a different way of responding.* Welcome new experiences. Breaking out of your comfort zone is bound to reveal surprising facets of your personality.

  • 4 Simple Steps To Raise Self-Esteem – Warrior Mind Podcast #588

Over 10 years and going strong!  With over 2M downloads from over 18 countries and 7 continents’…. this is the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast, I’m going to go over s4 Simple Steps To Raise Self-Esteem for personal success and peak performance.

4 Simple Steps To Raise Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself, or the opinion you have about yourself. Everyone has times when they feel a bit low or find it hard to believe in themselves. However, if this becomes a long-term situation, this can lead to problems, including mental health issues such as depression or anxiety. Some of the symptoms of low self-esteem can also be a sign of these problems.

Self-esteem is often the result of a lifetime of experiences, and particularly what happened to us as children. However, it is possible to improve your self-esteem at any age. This page provides more information about self-esteem, and some actions that you can take to improve it.

You can win the battle over low self-esteem with these 4 simple steps…

    * Affirmations

Affirmations are simply positive things that you say out loud to yourself every day. This can be very difficult at times because you may not actually believe what you are saying. SO why would you say something to yourself that you don’t believe?

Increased self-esteem has to start with you. So, if you are shy and intimidated by people, start to say something like the following: I am NOT shy and I am NOT intimidated by people. I am VERY confident when I get around people.

Repeat this to yourself out loud at least 10 times before you leave your room. When you say this, don’t just mumble it either, say it as many times as necessary until you say it with passion and conviction.

Enjoy this Podcast on 4 Simple Steps To Raise Self-Esteem

More on 4 Simple Steps To Raise Self-Esteem

    * Read to grow

Again, increased self-esteem starts with you. Read something every day for at least 30 minutes that will help you increase your self-esteem. This can be an article, a book, or even an audio series. The more you learn the more you will grow. The more you grow, the more your self-esteem will improve.

    * Take action everyday

Do something every day, starting with something small, that directly deals with your low self-esteem. For instance, if you can’t talk with people because you feel insecure and inferior, just start off by saying ‘Hi’. As you get more comfortable with this, then start to make small talk. You will begin to feel more confident and more confident until one day, you will find that you have overcome low self-esteem in that area.

    * Stop the negative thoughts

Negative thoughts are like landmines. As soon as you step out to face your fear, a negative thought comes and tells you that you can’t do it and BOOM; you believe it and lose that round. Instead, diffuse negative thoughts before they have a chance to do damage.

A great way to do this is with a rubber band! Put a rubber band around your wrist. Every time a thought comes into your head that tells you that you can’t, you will never succeed, you are a loser, or anything negative, SNAP the rubber band on your wrist.

You may be snapping that band until your wrist is red and sore. Before long though,
