  • Episode 79 | Surviving an Emotionally Abusive Situationship, featuring Brenda Juarez
Statutory rape is defined as an act of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of consent, which is considered to constitute rape under the law, whether the person is willing or not. Because minors are legally incapable of consenting to such acts, the law presumes that all sexual activity with a person below a certain age is coercive. Many times when we hear the word "rape", we think of one type of abuse or trauma.
Statutory rape is something that happens so much more often than we even realize and it's something many people don't talk about. This week, we're shining the light with my guest Brenda Juarez.
Brenda is a first and a ½ generation Latina, Jay Shetty Certified Life Coach, Podcaster and happily married momma of two. Bren specializes in coaching Millennial Latina’s without degrees to develop and practice the mindset needed in order to become strong and courageous women who are able to live the life THEY Daydream about. She's spent the last decade transforming from a trauma filled L.A city girl to a self aware small town woman with a purpose.
You can follow Bren on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube & her website. Listen to her podcast, Toxica in Recovery.

This was Brenda's first time sharing her story with the world around being in an emotionally abusive "relationship" and experiencing statutory rape. I'm so proud of her for feeling safe enough to share her story on my platform. Thank you to Brenda for sharing her story with my audience. Emotional abuse is abuse and we need to raise more awareness around it!

  • Episode 78 | Why Pain is a Catalyst for Purpose & Power, featuring Chiquita Johnson
*Trigger warning: this episode discusses sexual abuse. Listener discretion is advised*
    Did you know?
❤️‍🩹1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old
❤️‍🩹34% of people who sexually abuse a child are family members
❤️‍🩹325,000 children are at risk of becoming victims of child sexual exploitation each year.
These numbers are TERRIFYING. Sexual abuse and violence is happening at an alarming rate in the United States, and these numbers are only on cases that are reported. Here on Watch Us Thrive, we don't shy away from taboo topics that make the room uncomfortable. It's so important to shine the light on having these necessary conversations to normalize that it ISN'T normal to suffer in silence.
"Failure is going to have to work very hard if it is going to step in the ring with my faith," a living testament and quote that Chiquita Johnson, a 33-year-old sexual assault survivor from Baltimore, MD lives by on a daily basis.
Despite all of her abuse and obstacles placed on her path, she is now using all of her pain and turning it into a rewarding purpose to serve and uplift other survivors.
Chiquita strives to help others not only to heal the wounds of their own trauma and abuse, but also motivate people to reprogram their mindsets to live a more elevated, prosperous life.
For many years, Chiquita was silenced to speak on her own personal abuse encounter but after undergoing trauma informed therapy she said, "I am not going to be quiet anymore!" Chiquita launched Chronicles of a Virgo podcast as a way to use her own experiences as a means to motivate and help others heal as well as connect with other like-minded people that had stories to share.
You can follow Chiquita on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and her website.

You can use your voice. You can take your power back. Your pain can be shifted into your purpose & power. Please know that you are SO much more than what happened to you. You didn't deserve it. It doesn't define who you are. Know that just by sharing your story, like Chiquita so bravely has, you can start the process of taking your power back💚
