  • Episode 99 | Breakdowns Lead to Breakthroughs, featuring Wanda Lopez
*Trigger warning: this episode briefly mentions acts of domestic violence, child sexual abuse & suicidal ideation. Listener discretion is advised*
Breakdowns in our lives often pave the way for breakthroughs, especially when dealing with trauma and healing. Just like a puzzle that falls apart before being reconstructed, our moments of turmoil and pain can shake us to our core, but they also offer a chance for growth. When we confront our traumas and allow ourselves to feel and process the pain, we create an opportunity for deep healing. This week's powerful guest shares her own testimonies on how her past breakdowns lead to her current and future breakthroughs!
Wanda Lopez is a 1st-Generation Latina mother of 2. From personal life traumas came the creation of her first movement, Her Story in a Smile, in honor of the many women who go voiceless due to trauma. This movement aims to not only tell impactful stories but also raise awareness of the depth that trauma and mental health can have on a woman.
Wanda combines storytelling and photography, because let's be honest…how many times have we appreciated a woman’s smile having no clue about all that smile has overcome? Her movement reminds women that it’s never too late to reclaim your voice & speak your truth.
She's currently completing her BA in Psychology & aims to raise awareness and empower women to appreciate their smiles even more. As women, we tend to hide a lot behind our smiles & the world deserves to know the truth behind it. Not for the world to approve but for the world to see women for what they truly are made of. You can find more about her work on Instagram & YouTube. Click here for a chance to be featured on her platform.
It's important to recognize that breakdowns are not just stumbling blocks but also stepping stones towards breakthroughs. Facing our traumas head-on might be daunting, but it's through these very challenges that we unearth the hidden gems of self-discovery. Just as a diamond emerges from intense pressure, our breakthroughs shine as testaments to our resilience. Let Wanda's story be a reminder that breakdowns are not the end, but the catalysts that propel us towards the profound breakthroughs waiting for you on the other side!

  • Episode 96 | Diet Culture & Why It's Toxic, featuring Bethany Shields
Diet culture is all around us, seeping into our social media feeds, conversations & even our own thoughts. It's a set of beliefs that glorify certain body types while demonizing others, perpetuating unrealistic beauty standards and promoting the idea that our worth is tied to our appearance. But at what cost?
Join me as I sit down with Bethany Shields, an advocate for body positivity & mental health, as she shares her expertise in combating the toxic nature of diet culture. As a survivor of the harmful impact of yoyo dieting + body shaming, Bethany's journey is one of resilience, self-discovery & empowerment.
Bethany is a certified nutrition coach & specialist in behavior change psychology who spent over 3 decades of her life on the diet roller coaster. This eventually led to her taking action to get bariatric surgery which resulted in significant weight loss. However, weight loss didn't change her mindset or behaviors. As she regained weight, she realized she hadn't failed herself but rather, diet culture failed her & contributed to her shaming herself and developed disordered thinking around food & exercise.
Bethany decided to take her health into her own hands & became a certified nutrition coach, long-distance runner & endurance athlete who understands the mental + physical challenges of unlearning a lifetime of chronic dieting. She's inspired many women to feed themselves like they love themselves and is a work in progress alongside them. She runs her own nutrition coaching business, Be Better with Bethany, where she coaches women to ditch diet culture, get strong AF, increase their confidence & crush their goals. You can follow Bethany on Instagram & Facebook. Check out her signature programs here.
Remember, true wellness goes far beyond the number on a scale or the latest diet trend. It lives in self-love, compassion & understanding that every body deserves to be celebrated. We deserve to live in a world where we can thrive, free from the harmful shackles of diet culture & embark on a path towards genuine, lasting well-being!
