LGBTIQ+ Conversion Therapy has had a long and controversial history, and incredibly, is still legal in South Australia. It seeks to change or suppress a person's sexual orientation or even their gender identity, which is said to have major impacts on LGBTIQ+ people. All this leads to the question, should this practice be banned? We spoke with Equality Australia CEO Anna Brownabout the practice and why it's so detrimental to the LGBTIQ+ community. Nat Cook from SA Labor also had a chat with us about her push to outlaw the practice.

Meanwhile, it's an issue that you may not have heard about, but it's having an impact on a number of people around Australia. PFAS chemicals have reportedly been used by the Defence Department in its firefighting foam on bases for training, which is reportedly leading to major drops in nearby property prices as well as health concerns. Joshua Aylward from Shine Lawyers gave us the lowdown on a class-action lawsuit coming up against the Department of Defence.

This pandemic has cause a lot of hardship, pain, fear and boredom. As we were in lockdown many of us started picking up new hobbies and skills. It was not only to pass the time, but a great way to keep up our mental health wellbeing. 

Gaining popularity in the 80's, Dungeon and Dragons became a staple icon of the nerd. However, the nerd culture shift with a healthy dosage of Stranger Things has created a massive boost in popularity for the game. Our reporter Sam took a look into the local Dungeon and Dragons scene to find out all about it and even wound up lost in a game himself.

As new COVID cases become increasingly rare and restrictions are rolled back, people have started to return to the office and work. However, as we start to reenter society after prolonged isolation and severely reduced social interaction some people are understandably anxious about the return. Australia has one of the highest rates of food allergies, with one in ten children developing a food allergy before their first birthday. Food Allergy Week took place last week so the team at Wavelength had a chat with dietitian Frances Walker to discuss the issue. Recently South Australia has rescinded laws that previously, suppressed the names of anyone charged with a sex offence until that person was convicted. This week our reporter Hamish tackles this complex problem speaking to someone who was wrongfully imprisoned for committing a sexual offence along with a victimologist to examine the positives and negatives.

Domestic violence is a scourge on our society with nearly 25 percent of women experiencing violence at the hands of an intimate partner. In light of COVID-19 and social isolation measures, experts are worried that family violence rates are set to rise. We spoke to CEO of the Australian National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS) Dr Heather Nancarrow, an expert on domestic violence who has a PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice. We also spoke to Alice Clark executive director of Shelter SA to discuss the lack of affordable housing for people fleeing abusive situations.

It is never easy when a woman decides to have an abortion. This week we spoke to a woman who decided to keep her baby after she found the process of having an abortion too long.
