An exciting second week of Wavelength people! Cass and Jamie are hosting, and we have some great stories for you this week. It’s been a crazy week with fringe finishing which ends the festival season in SA.  

Amber, one of our newest journos talks to two people from Russian and Ukrainian decedent about attitudes and behaviour they have experiences being in Australia during the conflict. The conflict has shown great support for some people, and others have experienced discrimination.

Also, Jamie talks about new mandated consent education laws in Australia. To help us learn more, Jamie talks to Teach. Us. Consent. Our new segment Wavo explains is in full swing, and this week we have Cass to teach us what ramping is, why it is such a big issue and what is being done to change it.  And finally, we have Alex to give us the good news story this week all about SA being able to bring the boogie back.

Welcome back to the first episode of Wavelength for this year! We have a brand new Executive Producer and Host, the beautiful Jamie and Cass debuts hosting for the first time, we also have an entirely new crew. We miss you David and Hamish, but alas new year, new show.

With Fringe and Adelaide’s festival season in full swing, our episode is very on brand, Cass and Alex speak with Libby Trainor Parker from endo days and Carla Mattiazzo about their recent fringe shows, as well as stigmas about women’s health. With more than 11% of the Australian population suffering with Endometriosis at some point during their life, it is vital to have conversations about how to seek help.

One of our newest journalists Amber spoke with James Templecock about the upcoming state election. For new time voters and veterans to the polling booth voting can be a stressful time, especially in an ever-changing covid environment. Amber goes through the basics of how to vote, where to vote, what to do if you have covid or are in isolation and how to find a party that suits you the best. The most important thing is to GO VOTE, make your voice heard.

We debut a new segment called wavo explains! This will explain a topical issue in a condensed version to make it easier to understand, this week we have Amber talking about the Flavivirus in South Australia. And Jamie goes through what the hell happened this week, including dancing being back, the rise in petrol prices and the new strain of omicron, an alien invasion isn’t looking too far fetched anymore..

Welcome to wavelength, sparking the convos about Adelaide you should be having. Its our last show of 2021! We have a jam-packed episode this week so get pumped!

Our newest recruit Cass talks to the president and leader of Adelaide’s all gay rugby team Cameron, who walks us through inclusivity within team sports, how it all got started and most importantly how to join! We also speak to Tammy Franks about a proposed bill she has introduced into SA parliament regarding the legalisation of cannabis for reactional use.

Following the recent boarder opening in South Australia and Adelaide becoming no longer a Covid free state, David and Hamish digest and discuss what the boarders opening looks like for South Australians.

We talk to the CEO of Car Next Door, the future of car sharing as we know it. Wavelength this week is missing our beautiful Hamish and Jamie, but don’t worry, David has brought a friend Angela Skujins. We miss you Hamish, but congratulations on your wedding!!

This week on Wavelength Jamie is gone but David is back! This week we wonder what the bloody hell has been happening in Glasgow this week, world leaders met to discuss the climate crisis, but will anything come from it?

We answer your questions about sexual and reproductive health you may be too scared to ask. Jamie has sat down with Amy Moten from Shine SA an organisation that provides sexual health and relationship services to ask them all the questions and queries you never were game enough to ask.

Hamish lets you know what the hell happened this week, he discusses Glasgow and Scott Morrison’s embarrassing moments, the lack of excitement for the start of the Melbourne Cup and Glynde’s fight against bunnings, how unaustralian.

And finally, David digs deep into Scott Morrison’s embarrassing week from hell. To fully understand the situation, David sits down with Sarah Bulter an associate professor of climate adaptation at the University of Tasmania about the Glasgow summit.

This week on Wavelength, we are missing our beloved David, not to fear Jamie and Hamish have soldiered on.

 We discuss what it’s like to find work as someone living with a disability, in 2021s covid impacted the Australian economy. To understand how South Australia fits into this national picture, Cass talks to Carolyn Mounce the director from Job Edge about stigmas regarding people with disabilities gaining and keeping employment. Later in the episode, Cass talks to Lisa a job seeker who found herself living with an unexpected disability and the support she suddenly found herself eligible for.

Also, Jamie does not hold back after recent news that a Tasmanian school was instructing year 8 girls to kneel and have their skirts measured. Hamish updates you on what has happened this week, including Melbourne’s wild scene after ending lockdown and the Extinction Rebellion protests here in Adelaide.

This week on Wavelength, we discuss the proposed changes to the legalisation of sex work. The SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens recently weighed in on the topic, stating he would only support the notion if a number of regulations were introduced to stop an ‘insurgence’ or organised crime into the industry.

To understand more about this debate, Amila spoke to the general manager of SIN (Sex Industry Network) Kat Morrison for more insight. Later in the show, David interviews the sex worker BigBoy to understand how the problem differs from interstate and to better comprehend the differences between decriminalisation and legalisation of sex work.

Meanwhile, we also take a look at what’s been going on this week, including Scott Morrison travelling interstate for Father’s Day and NSW Premier Gladys ditching daily press announcements. We also have a chat about the new stance from Qantas, saying they will ban unvaccinated people from flying overseas.
