In this episode of LeadershipNOW® podcast we feature WealthWave® leader Kim Scouller interviewing Brittney Gardner and her son Sebastian Gardner, live from Dallas, TX during a fundraising event. Although Sebastian was born full term, gastrointestinal issues were detected by 25 weeks in the womb. After a tumultuous eight weeks in the NICU, he was formally diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease, also known as long segmented intestinal and colonic aganglionosis. WealthWave® leader Tim Mullaney and his team started this drive to help Sebastian raise funds, while spreading the importance of financial literary, especially during times of family emergencies.
Sebastian Gardner is a 6 year old boy who was born without functioning intestines, among other complications. He needs a liver, pancreas and an intestinal transplant. Anticipating a year away from home, his family partnered with Children's Organ Transplant Association for assistance with feeding therapy, transportation, housing, immunosuppressants and more. COTA's partnership with families allow 100% of the donations given in a patient's honor to help with these needs. Life Takes Guts.
UPDATE: On March 22nd, Sebastian received his multiple organ transplant. While the surgery was a success, he was very sick and experienced complications. There are miracles and there are scientific facts, and then there is this big huge area in between that sometimes can’t be explained. Sebastian’s 7 years on this earth with his family were a daily miracle. Surrounded by family, friends and medical staff, he took his final breath on March 31, 2019. Sebastian’s gift is that those of us lucky enough to have been in his presence were blessed by personal growth, kindness, patience, and love.
