  • 157. Richard Tomić

Richard Tomić is a Brit that is all but not limited to music producer, content creator, comedian, and Japanese speaker.

His Japanese is so good, it’s inspiring me to learn Korean.

I heard of Richard where Kim sent me a Instagram DM of Richard’s reel of “Tinder Date in Japan” with Richard’s smiling face of him in a wig playing the beautiful girl that he is and I watched it. Hilarious. I was hooked.

The caption for it was “Tip: If she’s written “hip-hop” in her bio, this is what you might get.”

Alright anyways I was then in a K-Hole of videos. Tons to watch. If you’re into subtitles and cos-play this is the page for you.

Richard teaches Japanese through his school the Ricchaado Academy and also got bars with his music under bi-lingual alter ego Seitei.

Is Richard Tomić an Adult Entertainment Club or performer? Let’s find out. Or not. We don’t need to find out.

A place of uncomfortable laughter. This is Ricchaado TV.

Please welcome Richard Tomić to Wear Many Hats.

  • 156. Ben Grey - Dear Boy

    Ben Grey is a musician.

Ben Grey is the vocalist and guitar player for Dear Boy.

I first heard of Dear Boy through the grapevine of LA bands but then I had to tap in Austyn Hayman the other guitar player for Dear Boy for the WMH podcast. Austyn was different, but I didn’t think that the rabbit hole of the Dear Boy universe would get bigger but it did.

I met Ben Grey in Los Angeles at a show that Austyn played guitar for, then Ben’s show at the legendary Hotel Cafe with Austyn. Next thing you know it, I extended my trip and saw Dear Boy open for The Psychedelic Furs.

Dear Boy has been around but released their debut album, Forever Sometimes.

If I get Lucy on, will it be Dear Girl?

Please welcome Ben Grey to Wear Many Hats.

  • 155. Jennifer Heintz & Mike Wagz  -  Self Aware Studio

Jennifer Heintz & Mike Wagz are designers and the founders of Self Aware Studio.

I was aware of Self Aware long before friends and guests of the show, Ian Shiver, Elizabeth Goodspeed, and Ryan Evans mentioned to have them on.

Self Aware’s websites and branding for Middle Child and This Corner made me look to go, who did this, I need to know! Philly’s changing it up, love it.

Work includes portfolio designs for Off Season, a design studio with a music industry focus, an experimental splash page for IOTA Editions and more.

Will we be getting a Wear Many Hats makeover by the end of this episode, will we be talking about Philly, is it a club or a hoagie? The answer is Yes.

Please welcome Jennifer Heintz & Mike Wagz of Self Aware Studio to Wear Many Hats.

  • 153. Amelie Ning Kang - MáLà Project

Amelie Ning Kang is a restauranteur, chef and the owner of MáLà Project. The East Village Chinese dry pot restaurant that’s constantly packed also has a couple locations uptown in New York City but you know I don’t go above 14th street.

    Just playing I do, I say I don’t but I do.

Recognized for her culinary talent, dedication to the hospitality industry, and for leading the wave of new Chinese restaurants in New York City, Amelie was named on Eater’s Young Guns list in 2018, and Forbes 30 Under 30 and Eater New Guard of New York in 2020.

I’ve been to the East Village location once before and was surprised I’ve never had dry pot before. I’m glad I was able to catch them again with new friend Mimi since she finally had a day off but next time I’ll be bringing friend and collaborator Nikko Gary to the next one. You heard it first Nikko.

I love that we were able to choose our spice levels, the menu was fun and easy to read, and you know when people skip out on desserts because they’re full. This is an exception. You have to.

Please welcome Amelie Ning Kang to Wear Many Hats.

  • 152. Selena Liu

Selena Liu is an interdisciplinary designer exploring color, form, and humor to elicit joy and child-like energy. With a background in industrial design, she is a prop stylist, set designer, and conceptual artist.

Selena works in but not limited to content creation, user experience, interiors, styling, and product design.

The list of clients are all your favorites you’ve heard of such as Nike and Hypebeast but going to drop Muji, 88rising, Sundae School, and Toyota for the culture.

Selena has been featured in our favorites such as Dwell, Architectural Digest, Sight Unseen, The New Yorker, The Cut and Surface Mag.

Selena’s line Serving Friends is sold in stores worldwide through her partnership with Areaware.

Selena’s cutting board, that was in the Sight Unseen x Super House one night only show was showcased next to the Dusan and Dusan tissue box and the Chen Kai planters. It makes me wonder why I don’t have Selena’s cutting board since I have the Dusan and Dusan tissue box and the Chen and Kai planters.

I think I’m going to have every model and friend that friend and guest of the show, Jae Kim, photographs on the show since that’s what’s its come to be.

Please welcome Selena Liu to Wear Many Hats.

  • 151. Al Menne - Great Grandpa

    Al Menne is a musician.

Al was the lead singer of the indie rock band Great Grandpa that is still showing up in people’s Spotify Playlists.

Al has been cooking and collaborating with their homies Christian Lee Hutson and Whitmer Thomas.

Also including Melina Duterte of Jay Som for they’re own music.

I come back to Al’s not allowed leak song “Kill Me” that is pinned on their IG page because it’s so soothing it could kill you.

I love beautiful heartbreaking music. I prefer sad songs over happy songs but I love love songs.

Al brings all them together like a pasta and makes them al dente.

Please welcome Al Menne to Wear Many Hats.

  • 150. Marcus Maddox

    Marcus Maddox is a photographer.

If you were to read Marcus’s origin story it brings you back to childhood memories, thinking to yourself as a kid, what would be a cool thing to play around with? What would be cool to take a picture of? It’s your shadow.

Marcus has shot some of your favorite musicians such as friend and guest of the show Shamir, Tierra Whack, Moor Mother, yes I just dropped 3 Philly names, Hello Mary, Barrie, Knife Play, Sun Ra Arkestra, Thundercat, BTS for friend and guest of the show Mannequin Pussy and many more.

I found Marcus via shooting for friend and guest of the show Kennedy Freeman of Highnoon but saw instantly that he has also shot friends that I met in a past life, Jon Key and Jessica Willis for his series, Figures of Color.

Maybe Marcus will convince me to start wearing color after I took a deep dive into his photos.

Please welcome Marcus Maddox to Wear Many Hats.

  • 149. Abby Muir

Abby Muir is an independent consultant and creative director based in New York City with a background in business, strategy, and frontend development.

Primarily, Abby works with the founding teams of startups or small-to-medium size businesses. Abby's services are a mix of consultation and execution; focus on strategy, creative direction, and the design of key touchpoints such as brand identities, websites, campaigns, and digital products. Previously, Abby co-founded a studio called The Couch.

Abby made predictions over lists for the year that caught my eye. When people I know story other people’s work or idea I somehow think it goes viral so I would like to think this went viral.

Predictions about businesses, brands, emotions, even crypto.

Friend and guest of the show Ian Shiver comment it, friend Alex Frankel storied it.

Will we get a prediction of what this podcast might turn out to be in the future? Is there an end game? Do people still listen to podcasts? Am I talking into the ether. Do manifestations still exist?

    Let’s talk about the future.
