How things can change so fast!!We went from both feeling really in control and ahead on recording, to only sitting down to make this episode around 48hrs before we release it…
That feeling definitely steers the course of this episode as we wave goodbye to summer and move into autumn/winter weddings.Whilst we feel that we’ve both had incredible summers making some of our best work, we’d be lying if we said that hasn’t taken a toll and feeling a little fatigued for the final push through a busy September.
Chris is now back from Lake Como and he reflects on his time in Italy and the lessons learnt from a destination wedding of this calibre. Make sure to listen in for his learnings of this amazing experience and whether or not he’ll be marketing for more in the future.
We also talk about the struggles and changes of booking patterns for 2025 and how we think the landscape for couples booking their days have changed.
We’re both seeing a huge rise in midweek bookings and shorter booking periods, so we share some of our thoughts on how to navigate and prepare for this shift.

August 29, 2024 036: Prepping for Como, Google Gate & New Gear
If you’re anything like us, you’re pretty much hitting the peak of your season and this episode is the result of an epic catch up after a busy month of shooting weddings.
We recorded this on the eve of Chris’ trip to Lake Como for a destination wedding and all the preparation that has gone into preparing for this trip.
If you’re new to the destination market, or trying to market for your first destination wedding, we pull back the curtains on the reality of these weddings and highlight maybe some of the less glamorous parts of what can seen as the pinnacle of the weddings to attract.
We also address the well-documented ‘Google-gate’ that struck our industry and the issues surrounding that.
We started this podcast to help build community amongst wedding creatives and the very fact that this was caused by people within our industry led to some quite strong opinions from us on this one.
Lastly, we round the episode off with a little nerd-out over some new things that we’ve both bought and implemented into our kit bags over the past few weeks.

This week we’re back with another incredible guest and a topic that we feel isn’t discussed enough in a public forum like this.  
Mike from Mac Videography is a Kent based film maker and previous winner of the prestigious TWIA’s UK Videographer of the Year award.   
But despite running a successful business, winning awards and shooting weddings in amazing venues, Mike (as with many of us too,)  has still had his share of struggles with overwhelm, burnout and anxiety from the pressures of doing this job. 
As you’ll hear in the episode, Mike kindly shares some great tips for how he’s managed to overcome this and find balance between work, family life and happiness.
  We’re both so grateful to Mike for coming on the podcast and open up so candidly and honestly about this sensitive subject.  We hope this conversation stands as an education piece to those who are fairly new to the industry and a lifeline to others who may be having  similar thoughts at this point in the season and know they’re not alone.
  
We’re far from mental health experts and always suggest that if you are seriously struggling, then please seek professional help, but when Mike approached us with this subject for the episode, we were both in 100% agreement that it was a conversation that is much needed and hope will be a comfort and help to you.

July 18, 2024 033: TWIA Founder Damian Bailey talks Awards, Legacy & Self Discipline
That’s right, we’re back with another guest episode, in the form of TWIA founder & wedding photographer Damian Bailey.
Alongside being a full-time wedding photographer, Damian founded The Wedding Industry Awards back in 2011 and it’s now become THE award to win amongst wedding vendors in the UK.
We do a deep dive on the lengths Damian & his team go to make this the fairest and most credible awards of its kind.
We also talk about what makes a good entry and a few good tips at making the most attractive entry if you’re thinking of entering this years awards.
Away from TWIA, Damian also runs a full-time wedding photography business as well as a super cool legacy experience called Back Story.
Wearing so many hats at work definitely comes with its challenges, so Damian kindly shares some tips on work life balance and how he manages to be successful across all of his many business ventures.
It’s a great episode with plenty of useful knowledge, whether you’re familiar with TWIA or hearing about it for the first time.

Well…this episode ended up taking quite an unexpected turn!!
When we sat down to record, we planned on making a fairly light-hearted chat about how we’re holding up in the height of busy season and the things that we’re dealing with.
What actually happened is we got to the topic of ‘reading the room’ and that ended up moulding the shape of the entire episode!
This topic is on the lips of a lot of wedding creatives at the moment and we obviously both have strong enough feelings about it to make it dominate the conversation of this chat.
-How difficult can it be on a wedding day if the photographer and videographer have different views on how to capture the moments??
-Is there a right or wrong when it comes to capturing moments naturally or re-creating moments just for the camera?
-Are we as creatives being totally honest about how we capture these moments to our couples in the lead up to the wedding?
We both felt so much better after recording this episode and sharing our views on this idea of ‘reading the room’ and just how important that is as a skill for a wedding creative.

As we enter the midst of the season, a few things have happened to us both at weddings recently that sparked the topics of discussion in this episode…

We’ve both literally just had church ceremonies to capture and share our opinions on the recent debate around vicars and the restrictions they can impose.
Are they really as bad as the media made out or are we as photographers & videographers just as much to blame?

Chris has also completely overhauled his website and rebuilt it on the Showit platform, so he goes in depth on what a HUGE task it is to undertake during wedding season, but how rewarding and beneficial it is to have an up-to-date site that you’re proud of and showcases your style best.

There’s also a hilarious story about Chris getting locked out of a venue during a wedding and some recent purchase tech-talk thrown in for good measure.

- Can you just copy someone else’s style to be trendy? 
- Can your style vary from wedding to wedding?  

We also discuss our own style journeys and the breakthroughs we’ve had in forming our styles over the years.

May 23, 2024 029: Roo Films talks Coda, TWIA & Video Gear!
This is a HUGE episode and another milestone for us here at Wedding Capture Co…
Today’s episode is our 2nd time having a guest and very first videographer guest, in the form of the incredible Ron Stain (AKA Roo Films).
Roo is a UK based wedding videographer, winner of TWIA’s Wedding Videographer of the Year in 2024 and co-founder of the hotly anticipated Coda conference that launches in October.
In this near 2 hour chat, we dive into Roo’s thoughts on his TWIA win, the doors that winning this prestigious title has opened, as well as some great advice on what makes a great entry if you’re thinking of entering too.
From there (past ALOT of sidetones and video chat) we move onto talking about how the Coda conference came about, teaming up with the Ninedots guys to help make it happen and the incredible response to it’s announcement.It’s an incredible achievement to sell out an inaugural conference in the pre-sale alone, which is testament to the lineup that they’ve put together and Roo’s dedication to making it a huge success.
Even if you’re a photographer, don’t be put off listening as there is so many awesome and transferable takeaways in here, you definitely won’t want to miss it.

It’s now been just over a week since we hosted our (very first!) workshop, so we wanted to use this week’s episode as an opportunity to reflect on how that incredible day went, but also give a more general thank you to you guys; our amazing Wedding Capture Co audience at the same time ❤️
We’re also over a year into doing this podcast now and realised that we’ve never really stopped to look back at how far we’ve come; to celebrate our community and share our gratitude for what we’ve both gained, just by having these recorded conversations every couple of weeks.
The workshop itself couldn’t have gone better, so we share some insight into how it came about, the lengths we went too in making the content and also our joy in the response we got from the attendees on the day.
We also muse about the prospect of doing another workshop and using any feedback from our first rodeo, to make the next one even better!
