started with around 90 mins before the deadline.  somehow pulled something together.  a couple of guitars are rather 'icepicky'.  blame the jazzmaster.  realised there was no bass until around a few mins before submission.  quickly added a baby audio ba1 line.  first time I haven't reached for the bass vi.

anyway, just maintaining the streak over here.

› Oscillo-what?‹ Oscillo-what?My track from last week had a little cheeky noise in it that would translate into my profile picture when viewed on an oscilloscope. During Euromeet, DESLRV showcased A Silly Scope by Ipaghost in response, which is super duper cool. So I started looking into how to make actual tonal things while displaying these kinds of pictures.

The scope traces the audio signal on a graph. The Y axis is the left audio channel, X is right (or the other way around, i forget). It works kinda like an Etch A Sketch, where left and right channels move the two knobs.

You can draw using synthesis, like in that sine wave Bach part. But for most images I just threw vector files into Osci-Render, which will translate them into audio.

The basic workflow is to make a vector drawing in SVG format (I used SVGator), which can then be translated into an audio signal (I used Osci-Render). Continuous, rounded lines produce the cleanest tones. The more complex the drawing gets, the grittier and gnarlier the audio becomes. Once I got the basics down, I just kept bouncing between drawing pictures and then playing around with them in M8. It’s a pretty slow process, but very rewarding when it all comes together.

Osci-Render accepts midi input, so I hooked up some CCs so I could modulate a couple of its parameters from M8, like rotating the image and changing the color. The end result is a live render from Osci-Render, which should look the same (minus the color changes) on actual hardware.

This one was a bit of a struggle. Some initial ideas became flubs, and other ideas took forefront, but then those ideas happened to be ones that were harder to perform. That bass synth? Getting it lined up in the right spot was *such* a pain when performing it. It took about a dozen attempts before I simplified it to the current version, which still took several to line up (which I finally resolved by putting it on full the whole damn time).

Bass synth and vocal sample are Tonverk, apparently I've decided that I will record myself saying something, pitch it down a few semitones, and put it through the Grainer machine - I think this is the third track I've done something like that? Drums are Digitakt II and Pulsar-23; I think I messed up with the DT recording because it seems to favour the right side pretty heavily. Not sure if both cables were in properly. At least the Pulsar centers it back. Prophet 6 for pads, a nice tone made nicer by going through the Death By Audio Rooms (always the wave algorithm; I like the wobbles). Sputtering noises from omnichord through Chase Bliss Lost & Found and Habit, but mostly Habit. I let it collect a couple stabs and then scan for interjections. It is maaaaaybe a bit hissy. If I wasn't feeling lazy I would've gone back and fixed that.

I think there's still something missing from the final, but I've run out of time.

This will probably be my last recording with my current setup, as I have a new multitrack recorder coming this week! Huzzah I shall be able to record more channels simultaneously and have less processor noise!

Yet another 8-bar loop from a previous session of 'The Impulse' work and fleshed it out into a full track. This was code-named 'Piano-Sub' because it centered around a piano sample and a sub bassline I added to it. Some violins and layers of wind in trees adds texture. I also used Transit to smash and distort and even pitch shift the master bus a bit. I didn't have a ton of time on this on account of traveling to Spain, where it's 1:30 am and I'm exhausted but I'm still doing in.
