This one was just a little bit rushed. I had a cold this week. Nothing serious, but it was enough for me to not feel like doing much in the evening. I had this track going already and just built it out a bit more by the end of the week. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of time this weekend, since the weather is great and I'll be spending most of my time outside (bringing the m8 with me of course).

This is Tidal Cycles piping midi into Ableton, where I have instances of Zebra 3, Juno 6 V, Pure Lofi and Jupiter 8 V, and some others. The string-like sound is something made with modal synthesis on Zebra 3.

I wanted to do something without drums.

I'm traveling with a partner and didn't want to eat so vacation time. I downloaded Cubasis and stuck with the stock sounds while learning it. Piano rolls on a 6" phone are rough. Woof. Nice featured package though! Hopefully I can get a tablet to use it in the future.

This week finally sees the pay off of 'what if I put two tracks kinda together, and hopefully that will fill out the run time.' Yet already listening back, I really didn't need to.. I guess I just always feel like about 5 minutes is a good length of time...

Anywho. I wanted to play with some new toys to prepare for a terrifingly close live performance in a few weeks. The ending section, and also the little break early on, are me tuning several fairly free oscillators to chords, then fading between them. I used a Soma RoAT and Crows Ovum, and the bastl Kastle for much of this, a bit of delay and reverb and things were sounding good!

This aside, I also wanted to make something a bit more chill this week. The sun is out, but also my to-do list is increasing rapidly.

It was huge - my brother and sister and I could all stand inside at the same time.  Cardboard, 2x4's, a broken boombox for a control panel, a few corrugated fiberglass sheets normally used to keep the rain from splashing mud up onto the siding of the shed out back.  I have to send them this, but they certainly heard it before when we went on our grand voyage.

All done on the M8 - light master to get the levels right.

The guys from my band (@dreat, @BurnedOutSun and somebody not on WeeklyBeats) got me a pedal of delay for my birthday, so I had to try it and also record this week with it :)

This week the bass track features that pedal as well as my octaver on distortion settings. The rest of the instruments go dry into the iRig and then I deal with it on the iPhone. Drum tracks are as usual MIDI.

I handled the song pretty well considering I didn’t know where to go with it. This is a different idea that I had years ago and the song was called “Sirens”. This time I chose to call it “Gorgone” like Medusa in the Iliad.

French lyrics again, in a style close to Alain Bashung perhaps. Anyway, happy with the result of something that wasn’t supposed to work!

NB: I am supposed to prepare a video of recording it.
