  • Week 27 - 0x_colt - CARBOMB
Had to follow up last week's emotional low-key(ish) track with some peak insanity.
I grabbed a bunch of samples on Splice of firetrucks, glass, screaming, and explosions, and knew what I had to do when I smashed 'em together. Made a little "crime scene" on my M8.
I know this one won't be a lot of people's cup of tea, but I had a lot of fun making this and making the video as well, as it is a bit different.
Let me know what y'all think down below! :)

  • Week 27 - gify - Packing it up
Getting ready to move so I had to pack up my studio this week. Might be a few months of VSTs-only! Mashed this one out in a few hours on Saturday night. Had to use my PC tower as a desk...
The 303-ish sound that starts in the intro has these 3 parallel vowel filters on it, with the vowel shape and cutoff pitch being automated throughout the entire song, to constantly morph it. (it's the 6 big blue automation lanes in the middle of the screenshot)
Most (all?) of the synths are Synth1, with patches from the Schiffbauer Kujashi banks, which I've never explored before. Lots of Vangelis-style pads in there, and seems like a great set of banks that I will most definitely keep playing with!
    Thanks for listening!

  • Week 27 - JaiClone - ScapeGod [Interlude]
Another last minute thing... The stubbornness in me wants to make it the full year, but the engine is really struggling to make things happen. I did a bit more work on the song I intended to do last week, but I really didn't have the focus I want to give it, so I needed another fill in :/

  • Week 27 - dreat - Getting Cold
let's go, another one with recorded instruments
I wanted to record vocals, alas, my Sunday got bit too busy, so maybe next week. I'm still focusing on this "new" workflow and sound, so I'm more lenient on lack of vocals
this time I layered guitars :O my huge limits on guitar shows, but tbh it helps me to experiment, learn and pushes me

  • Week 27 - vimster - VCVLiveExp1
Not feeling 100% on the music lately, to be totally honest. Anyway, this is more me trying to improve my VCVRack workflow by running it in Ableton Live. Makes it much easier to master, I can add other elements easily. Before I was rendering out of VCV, importing the audio into Live, mastering. Pain in the arse.

  • Week 27 - horatiuromantic - Jazzmaxxing
Fuckedup jazz tune / improvisation because it's the jazz festival here. I developed a bit of a 2-note theme, after 10 takes - this is what you can hear in the main submission.
You can also hear the very first take in the unlisted youtube video below.
I struggled to follow this drum track - again it's from Bernard Purdie Master Drummers vol 2, but I later realized it's actually not exactly 100% on time, sometimes it does a little hit and then changes the groove. The point of the record was to use it as breakbeats on turntables and repeat sections on purpose I guess. But I just used the track as is, cause I don't have time for more today.
So even tho I was not very tight on the timing a bunch of times, the track itself doesn't have consistent time, I am sure of it. But I don't have time to go again so this is my submission for this week.
I thought it was funny that I lost my headphones halfway thu in the first take, luckily the speakers were on as well, albeit quite softly so I still had monitoring - so you are not hearing me play without sound hehe.
Here is the 1st take on video, I did about 17 takes in total.
    cheers dogs

  • Week 27 - freezedream - Perfected Machines
    Verse 1
We've perfected machines to feed us our dreams
And we find hope in the things we've made
    Algorithmic feeds
    Can meet all our needs
There's no reason for God no more
    Verse 2
    Our predictable days
    Are empty of praise
For the creator who cares for you
But as the years wear on
    The shadows draw long
    And we're faced with mortality
    Chorus
    No, technology won't save humanity
It's taking its toll on us, oh
    Science and progress
Can’t live up to the promise
To give what we truly need
    Bridge
    Father we need your grace
This world is a broken place
Rest our identity in you, in Jesus
    Father, come rescue us
From addiction to schemes and screens
And renew our hope in you, in Jesus
