90's era New York hip hop will never leave me, it's always lurking in my head, it was the music I first really got into, this one is in celebration of that and I hope it never dies.  I wanted to do a bit more with this but ran out of time, like Slick Rick said "so went the glory, and this is the way I have to end this story".  Thanks for listening, see you and hear you next week.

This week was a super quick one! I started some stems earlier in the week but abandoned them because I liked them, and knew I wouldn't have enough time to make them work. Started a chiptune track on Sunday morning that turned into this. Kinda all over, but I think I managed to pull it together in the end. Any feedback is appreciated!

The track title just comes from the vocal sample, and the cover art is a zoomed in picture of matcha foam.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a nonsensical one where I don’t even attempt to keep things logical or in key. The foundation is Mikey303’s bass patch (used poorly) and some Hacker T Dog bloopers because That One has been showing up a lot lately and I noticed it actually has a decent rhythm.

Kick, hat, and snare are Perkons From Mars samples, the little duck sounding thing is Lauren’s snort, and the rest of the synths are me being annoying (though all the patches are far less annoying than they started). Oh and the tubular bell patch (thanks @jegasus!). It all should not have turned out as well as it ultimately did, and I think the in-car mix helped.

Not near my computer tonight but I was able to bundle this project, dump it in my phone, render in the M8 app, convert in AudioShare and upload. Not too shabby!

One of those weeks where you get some ideas and they sound good and you're excited to work on them, and you don't record them, and say "Oh, I'll be able to get back there tomorrow no problem" and you turn off everything and of course you don't get back there tomorrow no problem. So some ideas were lost, alas.

What happened? I distracted myself with experimenting. So: several experiments here. One was that I was trying out the synth mode on the Bad Mood (basically: it has a micro-looper to make mini-snippets of your audio, and an internal clock to set the fidelity/length of it, and that clock can be controlled by midi notes). Went a bit overboard with that, tried to dial it back, not sure I succeeded. Ah well/

Also experiment: vocoder! Originally I had the string synth at the end through the whole track and it was not great, and when I took it out it was better but a little empty. So I thought: "why not vocode?" Found some random thing that I'd written on my phone to read for it. But you can't have vocoder too clear; it simply is not done. So no one should ever know what the hell I was saying.

Still sorting out my newer gear (this is part of what went wrong: I had set up some stuff on a new midi controller I bought a few weeks ago, and kinda just assumed it would still be there when I turned it on again. Folly!). In the end this is mostly Digitakt drums (with a little Pulsar-23), Prophet 6 bloops for the bass line, a little Tonverk for the background pad, Alpha Juno for the string synth/vocoder assistance, and Bad Mood for the noise. One of these days everything will be ready and sensical.

Started with a different philosophy from usual; I'm quick to go fast tempo with too much going on so deliberately slowed things down (100bpm), kept things sparse, and went with a light tribute to the legend of FM synthesis, Ryu Umemoto (RIP)

Still using the classic OPL; I enjoy the simplicity of 2-operator sine wave only FM.
