  • Week 17 - dojomusic - DoJo - D1sc0B4st4rd
Was telling a friend how I was an illegitimate 70s love child of a musician, aka Disco Bastard - he said this should be my new DJ name. Took it as a prompt for this week.

  • Week 17 - uhhuh_absolutely - Bonk Funk
Worked on this one during the day Sunday while my friends played the most lizard-brain game I've encountered, Megabonk.
The main inspiration was the strummed chord with lots of delay that opens the song. Recorded a few things on top and phoned it in a bit with a drum loop straight from the Ableton library.
Hope everyone is doing well out there!

  • Week 17 - Xjs - The Liquid Life
A nonsensical song, complete with a dumb joke/pun at the beginning. That's what you get from daydrinking in the sun.
    › Lyrics‹ Lyrics
(What's the difference between a hippo and a zippo?
One of them is quite heavy, the other one is a little lighter.)
    Don't take yourself too serious
The liquid life is a little lighter
Don't be yourself too hard on
The liquid light is a little life
    A dog, a hen
    and quite some edges
    in the grass
    and the flowers
    Don't take yourself too serious
The liquid life is a little lighter
Don't be yourself too hard on
The liquid light is a little life
The liquid light is a little life
A table and you give me
    some salt
    some cheekiness
    some laughs, and
    more salt
    and salt and salt
    Don't take yourself too serious
The liquid life is a little lighter
Don't be yourself too hard on
The liquid light is a little life
The liquid light is a little life

  • Week 17 - gify - The Ballad of Lost MIDI Program Changes
In the middle of working on this track, I somehow mangled all these MIDI program changes I had automated, and couldn't figure out what the original patches were, lol. I just couldn't quite find the same sounds again...
This track is a big mess and it sounds a lot like the style I used to make back circa 2010. I feel like I have an old laptop full of cheesy melodies like this that are way overproduced. :D I'm not sure how exactly this week's track ended up as a throwback, but I didn't have a clear idea of what type of track I wanted to write and couldn't quite dial in the sounds, and just kept pushing through. Voila! :)
The synths are all Roland S-1, Synth1, and NodalRed2x. Glad this one's over lol...

  • Week 17 - tired_moniker - tired_wb26_17
Decided to see what I could come up with using the M8 alongside the Polyend Play now that I've gotten more comfortable. I used the Polyend to sequence drums and also a bunch of samples on the M8 through midi, which effectively gave me 16 tracks to work with. I remember when I first started the Polyend seemed a lot more intuitive to work with, but now I definitely prefer sequencing on the M8! For this one though, I also wanted to practice improvising live and for that, the Polyend perform mode worked a lot better for now (but I have no idea what I'm doing : ) ). I made up the basic loop and a couple sections then just had that play for around 10 minutes while messing around with filters, repeats, different patterns, and pitch. Most of it was quite bad but I salvaged this 3-minute bit for the upload this week

  • Week 17 - djippy - Limite limite
I like this bass patch, do you?
Rushed one, did try a new daw as well, so I was super lost so I was not able to be as efficient with the time I did put in as I wanted to.
I did more that then recording music this weekend, sorry! It was 2 beautiful days:
Fitness journey! Not too bad, did about 5,5 hrs of cardio, did eat not too bad. Down to 91Kg.

  • Week 17 - PeterM - SAMMYS SONG
This another quick submission week for me. This is a song I wrote about a year ago when my cat Sammy died. I want to work it out a bit more but this is the core idea. Using up my reserve material for a week with no time for new stuff! Recorded directly into my M8 with a touch of shimmer reverb added. I hope to revisit this idea in the future with some vocals and some more elements added to the arrangement.
