Noisy drum and bass/panic attack simulator. This one is named after DF Klein's 1994 hypothesis that panic attacks are caused by a hypersensitivity to carbon dioxide buildup, which makes your body think you are suffocating.

Assembled on my Dirtywave M8, but I got to mix in some fun samples for this one.

* Bass is a pitched-down sample of the tannerin side of a Stylophone Theremin

* Kick is the same trash can hit from "A Short Ride in a Hell Machine."

* Claps are the same set of stairwell-recorded claps I've been using this year

* Crash is from a Casio SA-39, extended with retriggers/ratchets

* Nasty chord is a cheap melodica, already out of tune with itself, blown in C Db Gb cluster

* Bottle rocket sound is M8 FM, algo A>B>C>D

* Hats are noise (Wavsynth Noise)

* Arps are wavetables (Wavsynth WT-OSC: Folding)

I wanted to make something with a supersaw, so I used both ES2 and Serum 2 to recreate it as good as I could and then combine them. It's not the most supersaw there ever was, but it's a start. Furthermore, some while ago my wife challenged me to make a track using the chord progression Em - C - G - D, so here it goes :D

for the next few weeks I'm really going to try to work as dawless as possible.

this week - all the instruments were tracked into koala with my phone.  all guitars done with the phone perched on my knee.  this accounts for the wonky mixing - it was all done in koala.

vocals annoyingly were tracked into ableton as I couldn't find an xlr to jack.  I had planned on tracking them into my sp404.  I did take them straight out of ableton without any editing.

vocals are pretty heavily processed with the 404.

realised I screwed up some of the loop points on the 404 when resampling so ended up having to put some reverb and delay on the 'verse' section in ableton.

all week tried to go for a panda bear circa person pitch kind of vibe with the wall of noise falsetto vocal beach boys-esque thing going on.  anyways, this is my take on it.  think I'll stay in this lane for a few weeks and see where it goes!

going to spend more time with the 404 over the week as I've been meaning to properly learn it for so long!

I tried to manage some free time to work on music, but nothing other than some beats and sketches came along.

Not that many time, and not really the place or moment.

This is one of those beats : The Korg Electribe R in its virtual form could be pretty cool.

Just a beat from one drum machine, stretched to almost 2 minutes... Pretty lame, I know.

Maybe next week... I should be sleeping now.

For this week's track, I pulled things back a bit and focused on a few elements and automation via LFOs.

I built out the pad elements with sounds that I found had rhythmic feeling built into them. I then used a Pulsar LFO to create volume movement that would bring the elements in and out.

I then used the chords to create a baseline, adjusting it to create a simpler, more sparse line that followed the pads.

I then added the final two elements, which was an arpeggiated pluck and a percussion synth. Both had setting modulated through the LFO (including a built in envelope generator.

After this, I mixed the track and added effects. I ended up bussing all of the pads to a channel to glue them together.

I then went and built a mastering chain (basing off of a Reason preset) and finalized the track.
