  • Week 17 - jwh - i'm so glad u exist (w emily)
    emily // bass, vocals
jwh // electric guitar, drums, percussion, vocals, mix
round 4 of the 2026 monthly emily collab!
    › the process‹ the process
once a month emily and i set up some gear to do some live recording & see what comes to the surface. we then go to our respective corners to layer & mix without listening to what the other is doing.
we don't listen to the other's mix until after it goes live on WB  :)
this month started with a drum idea & melody that came to me in a dream last week. lyrically i drew some inspiration from a really kind message i received from my friend, Josie.
for our live tracking i was playing drums (floor tom + snare) while emily played bass. she was playing our Mustang through a Big Ears LOAF fuzz pedal into a rad amp that Uncle Bruno built for her. the tom & LOAF are on loan from our good buddy, Doty. <3
after tracking i layered in some more vocals, electric guitar, and percussion. ok!

all the things u control are doing fine (maybe even good)
    everything else feels impossible

  • Week 17 - tarv - lazy susan
i once challenged myself to write and record a SONG A DAY. here, doing weekly beats for the first time, i see how foolish i was in my youth.  anyway, this was the first song from that challenge (of which i made it about 11 days).  no recordings have survived, though i was able to find the initial scrawling of lyrics in an old notebook (along with the other "song a day" attempts.
ready to move onto something else for may

  • Week 17 - spry - Hyper Approach (WB17)
Pretty hyper approach this week. Feeling some hardstyle for some reason.
Spent a good hour working on patterns for this one. 30 minute structuring it. 10 minutes recording some trumpet and and the rest of the hour clipping mixing and fxing. Total work time about 2 and a half hours!

  • Week 17 - Ottimo - END OV HISTORY
Presented in this loop that changes from a calm introduction into a dirty acid trance sequence,
the Psychonaut and Neo-Shaman Terence McKenna explains what to expect at the end of the tunnel of history:
"History is leading to the transformation of this planet, in our life times - a cybernetic
biological, psychedelic, being - the collectivity of all life on earth is struggeling to be born!"

  • Week 17 - FalseTragedian - Nostalgiabait
The Algorithm, in its infinite wisdom, has lately been recommending me a lot of generic synthwave songs, albums, and/or artists with irrelevant references to obsolete technology in their names - VHS, cassette tapes, 8-bit consoles and computers, et cetera.
I can't bring myself to do that, so instead I'm meta-referencing it.
Let these chill synth riffs take you back to that song you heard last week which took you back to when you were a kid loading games onto your computer with a cassette player while taping this week's episode of Transformers before going to your friend's birthday pizza party at the arcade.
My first year of Weeklybeats has turned into Sundayrushedtracksfromscratch. I have an excuse for why I keep procrastinating week after week, but to avoid traumadumping on strangers I'm not gonna give it.

  • Week 17 - Philly - Winged Victory 0.2
A slight update to what I did last week...
Just managing to upload at the moment. I haven't been able to repair power situation and everything is temperamental; so that certainly adds a little spice to the creation process.
Will be resolved in time. Bear with.
I've got these stems from a really interesting Remix Competition from a composer I really admire called Tobi Weiss.

  • Week 17 - DESLRV - Journey to Adventure
I've been wanting to make this song for a month, but then things happened and it didn't happen until a month later. It's a whole thing involving other personalities and train rides, but it's here now. I'm satisfied with this, but didn't quite reach what I wanted to go for. Maybe later on I'll return to this song, or another, and see what's missing.
It'll be easy, even years apart. It's all just BBC orchestra and some other free stuff.
Inspired by a few other songs, more specifically this one and this one, as well as a few others to a lesser extend. Any closer to these would be ideal, though at that point I might as well make covers instead. Other than that, we've made journey/travel/adventure songs before, many years back. Those're worth looking back at, too. They hold up really well, but need a little touch.
