  • Week 17 - noggin - Po Shodan (remix of Jimmac)
Original track by my good friend Jimmac...(https://weeklybeats.com/jimmac/music/now-shodan) he had said something to the effect of not wanting to put beats on an ambient track, so that's just exactly what I did.
Well, and then some - cutting the whole song up and whacking it into a sampler, recutting the original sample...
Friends are special and I'm grateful for this one. It's wild how, out of all the people you meet, e-meet, work with, live with, some of them stick around and I'd say it's not always really explainable. Sometimes these connections start out unknown but next door, travel across the globe, and then wind up back in your own house.
Making this, I felt confused, dirty, and noisy, so that comes out here.
One short moment for another friend of ours included at the end.
    Thanks Jakub.

  • Week 17 - Janky Jams - Cocoon
Something summery, dancery, sunset-drinking-on-the-balcony for you today.
Kinda playing it safe with this because I didn't have a lot of time, but the one new thing I experimented with this week has been to use the Bitbox Micro as a looper at the start of my master insert chain - meaning the main mix of all voices (except the kick, which is separate for sidechain reasons) are multed into the Bitbox, where I can trigger a 4 bar recording, and then crossfade between the recording and the live audio. All this before my end of chain performance effects, i.e. the Desmodus Versio and Oxi Meta. You can see me use it at 4:25 with the crossfader - at which point I prepare the mixer for what's coming after the next drop.
    Patch notes:
    - Bass from Manis Iteritas Alia via Doepfer SEM and WMD Javelin
    - Monumatic through Imagènes as the main chord voice
    - Moog Subharmonicon, now racked on the upper shelf, through Rings, then QPAS, then a VCA for the secondary background harmonies.
    - Vhikk X for the ugly breakdown intermission
    - Drums are my usual, but I've got them all patched into Vortices as a submixer before they go into the main mix via the Koszalin freq shifter. Bohm separate as usual.
    Enjoy!

  • Week 17 - Joshua Morgan - Bionic Witch
*gotta love those random m8 names!*
As soon as I got a proper m8 I started making jungle/ drum & bass but this track is more of what I would 'normally' do with Ableton.
This is just the m8 into the octatrack for a few FX and gentle compression then into Ableton for recording only (no processing done in the DAW).

  • Week 17 - Jackmsimpson - Head Start
Another week of finishing off other ideas, while new ones sprout up in between writing and recording sittings. This is another tune that is more lyric focused, with the guitar and the ensemble sitting back to allow the lyrics to be the main focus. I personally really like this one.
As per some feedback, I'm trying out some more vocal ideas - adding harmonies and using some delays to add more complexity and diversity to my vocal palette - let me know what you think!
Open C again - I still LOVE this tuning!
Have a wonderful week - any and all feedback is welcomed! Thanks for taking the time to listen!
    Lyrics:
    We grew up together
    Now you're years ahead
    I follow in the footsteps
    You used to tread
    Head over heels
    Yeah, I'm over it
    We hardly speak since
    It was said
    We were side by side
    Now were back to back
    Must've been the years
    But i've lost track
    Keeping it together
    Held with super glue
    You're looking up to me
    But now i'm over you
    And i know
    That were trying to change
Guess were stuck in our same old ways
    Growing up
    But growing apart
What fun is winning with a head start
    You're up in business
    I fly economy
You think thats i'm a joke
    Makin' fun of me
    We used ti laugh together
    Now i'm the punchline
    I can smile along
    maybe some other time
    Running round in circles
    Playing hide and seek
    Singing silly songs
    Dancing cheek to cheek
    Music in the kitchen
    Screaming in the bed
    Things seem pretty quiet
    When i'm in my head
    And i know
    That were trying to change
Guess were stuck in our same old ways
    Growing up
    But growing apart
What fun is winning with a head start
You only hear what you want to hear
And only see what you choose to see
    You only kept the memories
    That made you hate me
You only try when it suits you
You only cry when people look
No matter what we've been through
You'll always come out on top
    All the quiet whispers
And the shouting in my face
    Those painful crossed words
that Put us in this place
    Another 3 missed phone calls
    Another message left unread
    Another blocked account
    Another reason not to salvage.
    And i know
    That were trying to change
Guess were stuck in our same old ways
    Growing up
    But growing apart
What fun is winning with a head start

  • Week 17 - MApril - CatFunk
I made this song in 3 hours.
I didn't try with the song cover.
I was gonna do a tiny bit more with this song if I hadn't accidentally deleted the things used for this song.
This song is 95% complete and will forever stay like that.

  • Week 17 - KaZu - Watching the Clouds
    Hi everyone :)
This week I wanted to try a more minimal track again, and it reminded me how challenging it actually is to make just a few elements sound like a lot. I definitely need to spend more time on this to really understand it (scratching my head).
If anyone has any tips or topics I should look into, I’d really appreciate it!
Anyway, here’s my entry for this week, hope you like it!
    Have a nice day :)
    Cheers
    KaZu
P.S. As always, I’m really grateful for any constructive feedback, opinions, and so on :)

  • Week 17 - Kooda - Textures
Had to make something to make my brain quieter… it worked!
No hard thinking got into this one, just noodling around with sounds.
