Ableton Live and Mini Freak up to some shenanigans. For a speed trash track this went through a few very quick revisions before it landed where it's at now. Sorry for the bright master ran out of time to give it a few more passes, but as long as I'm not blowing out peoples speakers or ear drums I'm satisfied. I'll be glad when all this OT at work will be over so I can actually sit down and give these tracks the love I feel they deserve. <3

Side note: it's actually bitter sweet to return to a style of music I first started making back in the late 90's. To be young and full of ambitions and hope for a future, and instead seeing that the world had other plans. Perhaps I didn't try hard enough or give it the attention it deserved. Yes that's part of it. Perhaps imposter syndrome kicked in and I felt like I didn't really have a seat at the table? Yes.

Putting yourself out there is rough. But don't let anyone else tell you, especially yourself, that you should quit. If its in your heart let it out, as long as YOU are happy with it, it does not matter if others get it or not, its not for them, its for you. never forget that.

Unless your a studio musician then ignore, because its 100% not about you. :P

Weird ambient eurorack jam this week, I ended up becoming a beta tester for a cool generative sequencer called SHOAL (hence the name of the title of this week's submission)

I just started using garageband on ios since I wanted to simplify my whole process coming from the endless possibilities and decision fatigue of ableton. quickly noticed the main limitations for me being that 1) you can't really group tracks and process them together and 2) the dB metering is definitely lacking some detail.

I'm thinking I can get by these limitations and use it as an opportunity to use my ear more for my mixing decisions rather than just looking at what the numbers are telling me. let me know what you think, particularly the mix!

accidental jam, didn't plan on it, then had a bit of fun and here we are.  got a bit tired by the little melody throughout, maybe i'll add to this later?  maybe!

there was also a fun guitar noodle yesterday, which i did not record because it was too much fun.  not sure how to deal with spontaneous recording of stuff like that.  kinda would like a little portable recorder thing i can just put somewhere.  could use my phone, but don't like ~the vibes~ of that.

other than that, i am trying to go to bed on time and to keep up better with the household cleaning, exciting stuff.

After a very busy week, I was still able to maintain the Friday/Saturday evening composition schedule. This one has me returning to the Univox Coily hollowbody, strung Bb F Bb F Bb C (a modified version of Fahey's C tuning). I wanted to break out of some of the reflexive pentatonic patterns this tuning encourages, so I started with an arpeggio that includes a C#, for the tension from that minor second. From there...things stayed pretty consistent, but there's a mood.

Three tracks of Univox Coily: both pickups, neck pickup, bridge pickup. Convolution reverb sends, compression/eq/limiter on the stereo mix.

The title comes from a wood near the A657 road near Bradford in West Yorkshire.
