RMR Discord Challenge is Trip Hop this month, and I am old enough (and privileged) to have witnessed the birth of this genre, so it's definitely part of my musical DNA.

I am still getting the feel for actually making trip hop, so this was a little play around on the M8, with some additional robot voices as a little treat. Vocals are zero-g samples, had zero time to record anything this week.

Little bit of a fusion between Massive Attack and Archive I'd say, but I haven't had time to really sit down with a track for analysis so this is mostly just fumbling. It's not bad. Failed a little on the organ sound design this week but meh.

One thing I found fun but also sounds a little dissonant is some of the tuning-variation between samples, every now and then they are quite sour.

Well... I thought I was free from the curse of overtime. But alas.. during my vacation even, I was pulled back in. Never the less the show must go on! Stayed up super late after work, and sacrificed sleep to try to get this all done before the dead line. Song completely arranged and composed using a Polyend Play+ multitracked into Ableton Live. Im not sure if it was the Play+ ,the Push 3 or something else but I kept getting audio glitches and it even crashed during bounce. I thought it was maybe the Play+ kinda sucking being multitracked via USB C, but no, the audio from the unit was fine the glitches and drop outs would be random after everything was recorded. Hopefully that was just a fluke.... Thank you auto recovery! It saved this weeks track!

Still learned some new guitar stuff that I do enjoy and I'm 100% sure I will revisit this track to re-record it and add lyrics and vocals without time pressure.

Also, 6/4 is fun (4+2 is such a clever way of thinking about it, I could not not steal it)

I ended up making more of a melodic techno track than I intended this week, but that's how it goes sometimes.

I started with the pads, and then built out a bass line. Once that was built, I kept hearing a simple four on the floor kick. So, I built out a drum line with a set of Euclidian sequencers driving the drums.

After building out a set of melodic motifs, I set out to set up the arrangement. After working on the automations and finalizing the arrangement. I added EQ to the tracks, and created a custom mastering chain to export the piece.

Been a while since I had such a big migraine. Took some painkillers and enjoyed the visual auras dancing around inside my eyes while spending some quiet time in bed.

After dinner I managed to to squeeze this weird blob out out of M8. It's all macrosynth (+1 NXT midi inst for extra LFOs). Rendered straight out of the device, no make-up.
