Some industrial sounds for your ears

First inspiration came from putting layer after layer of fuzz bass into a looper pedal (with a frequency shifter just before the fuzz). At normal pitch, it's actually kinda meditative, but I had to go and pitch it down, and, well. Second inspiration came from a pet boarding building, where all the dogs went nuts as a group of tourists walked by.

The screechy lead is a sampled Monotron Duo. The fake-granular pad is a loop of electric guitar notes repitched and processed again using Erik Tinberg's LFO Stop Grabber technique for the Dirtywave M8. See his blog post for more detail. Everything else is a mix of M8 synths and found sounds (railing clangs and table scratches)

I recorded this on the road again entirely battery powered, and it had some of the most horrendous hums and noises I've ever heard. Fixing this was an interesting exercise beyond what I'd normally wish to do :)

Diving into more dubstep for this week, trying to make interesting patterns and using modulation to make them, Initially I was looking at a different genre but I couldnt make the sound design with just the m8 so I left it for another time, I think is more important to make something that boucne and makes you move rather than fitting 100% into a genre if the machine is not capable of something, and the limitation always bring some creativity so I did my best to leverage the internal synths, which in this track are all from the m8, samples are only for the drums and a vocal chop!

I've been quite happy with the result especially the loudness which is dancing around -1 lufs for the first drop and -3 for the second, I could have potentially pushed the second drop to a bit higher but is ok I don't want to go crazy and weekly beat is mostly about experimenting and getting stuff done <3

Something completely different for weekly beats this week.

I decided to make a tribute to classic Easy Listening especially the work of Bacharach and David.

I also wanted to do something using French Horn as I think it's underused outside of classical music. I'm a huge fan of the track "For no one" by the Beatles which has an exceptional French Horn solo.

This is

Synthesizer V Saros 2 on vocals

EZ Drummer on drums

Pianoteq on Rhodes

and Instrument X on Strings and French horn

Ensemble is 4 violins, 2 violas a contrabass and 2 French Horns.

Musically it's trying trying to be a quite floaty given the flying theme.

C major to F minor in the verses then Dm stepping up to G major in the chorus. The bridge modulates up to A major for the instrumental section which is supposed to embody the flight home and then chord planes down for the landing part

The part where the horns come in at the middle of the second chorus is probably my favorite part.

The lyrics are a tribute / response to Hal David's lyrics to Trains and Boats and Planes from the perspective of the man flying home.

I've been more earnest and direct than I usually am with my lyrics.
