This one was made on the P6 and Sidekick, recorded on TapeIt, and mixed in Logic. I wanted to go DAWless this week, and I was blessed with some great weather and opportunities to garden.

I spent most of the week discouraged, nothing was coming together. I feel like this is a constant lesson with WB that I occasionally have to relearn. Just get in there and start making something!!

Well, I did. And it all came together afterall.

This is built mainly from guitar / sub37 samples on my m8. The chords are from a song I was dabbling with in the off season and posted to discord. A familiar feel with some different twists.

I really like how it turned out, quite the contrast from Wednesday to now :)

I'm going to commit to doing more listening and commenting this week!

I built this week's track around some more experimental percussion. I used some prepared instrument samples in Kong, as well as some Dr Octo-Rex samples with Sine wave percussion.

To hold a groove, I used a baseline generator modulated by an LFO. I also added a Pad and a Motif line running through the arrangement.

After setting up things the way I wanted, I EQd, mixed and added mastering effects.

Feeling good to go back to this kind of music, I'm still not there, and it takes me a lot more time to produce cause of the chaos and different sounds, so is a bit short, but I really like this direction, I hope to be able to get better at it cause it brings me energy and joy while making it, altho again is pretty hard and require some knowledge that I'm missing a lot at the moment. Almost hit -1 lufs !! So at least I'm happy about the loudness, I feel is better than some older ones I did where they were a little too flat even tho loud, this one feels more dynamic and still hits hard, I'd say 50% of it is staging the kick and choosing the right one for the job together with a cutting snare, most of the sounds are quite short but very loud so they always cut through the mix.

I'm on the new m8 firmware and made heavy use of the comb filter, the new hyperysnth which I asbolutely love and here is doing some heavy lifting with the chord stabs as well as a couple of the dubstep synths, I will use it for everything from now on ahahh <3

The second installment in my "watch synthwave tutorials and try to make something" series.

Practiced some sidechaining, subtractive EQ, reverb, and gated reverb (not really sure if that one worked tho).

Slowly working on making cleaner mixes...still some ways to go but I think I'm going in the right direction.

Some more specific notes on what I used to create this, for my future self or anyone else interested:

-toms and synths from Retrowave Featured Artists and Saif Sameer Synthwave libraries in FL Studio's Flex

-bass is from a Vital soundbank by Florixel with some reverb on it

-kick, snare, and hats are samples from the FL studio stock library (I put gated reverb on snare)

-i sidechained the kick, snare, and pluck synth to the synth chords, and also the kick and snare to the bass. Too much? I don't know XD

Rough one this week. Just a quick jam, stacking instrument layers without much arrangement!.

Every time I play with my Perkons, it reminds me how much I enjoy the live aspect of it. So many fun things to tweak and keep the beat interesting.
