February 13, 2022What Does the Bible Say About Substance Abuse #3?Send us Fan MailIn this third episode, Arnie and Fred continue to discuss the harmful effects of the misuse of alcohol. We then move on to note the fact that alcohol abuse leads to both moral and spiritual decay. One disregards pure religion since God specifically speaks against the misuse of alcohol. Illegal use of alcohol causes one, obviously, to break the law, for instance driving while intoxicated. Uncontrolled anger occurs sometimes when one is under the influence of alcohol. We talk about that. Fights and worse occur in bars and the parking lots adjacent to them. One's physical condition is degraded due to long term alcohol use. We note the immorality that accompanies those under its influence and specifically discuss Ladies Night that bars have and question its purpose. We complete this episode by noting the loss of physical self- control that one suffers. We will complete this series by discussing tobacco misuse in the fourth and final episode. Arnie begins by noting that Paul likens the Christian to an athlete who prepares himself for athletic competition and then engages in it. He notes the rigorous exercise and preparation of his body that is required to compete successfully. The Christian must engage in a much more important race as Paul notes in a later passage. We begin by looking at passages that mention the importance of the Christian's physical body. The Christian's body is a member of Christ and temple of the holy spirit. We discuss the passage that indicates we are to function in this life as living sacrifices and what that means. Consequently, there is a requirement that we must meet to do so, and we look at that. We note what the bible says about our desires and the need to control them because God has crowned us with glory and honor, and we ought to reflect that as His creation. We end this episode by looking at the Holy Spirit's use of the word's sorcery and witchcraft and the meanings of these two words in the contexts they appear. We look at a number of Old Testament passages where God details the punishment that He will mete out to these nations for the child sacrifices that they engaged in. We note the number of abortions done in the USA since the passage of the Roe v Wade decision in 1973. We also talk about the enormous number of abortions worldwide in the past 40 years. We look at passages where the taking of human life is referred to as "shedding blood" and note that this is true in both the Old and New Testaments. We discuss passages that include references to the conception and development before birth of both John the Immerser and Jesus. We look at the use of two New Testament words that is important to understand when one is examining the seriousness of abortion. We start out by looking at who will not be there according to the inspired writers. We discuss two sets of scriptures that Paul wrote where he notes a number of activities people are engaged in that will prevent them from going to heaven. It is most important that one repents if one is engaged in any of these activities. We encourage you to do so. We also see that John writes of something the Lord said about those who will and will not be in heaven and the reason for that. We continue the discussion by looking at passages that specifically say who will be in heaven. Some of these passages relate what the Lord stated, and some relate what John saw and wrote about. There are passages that tell us how we can be among the number who will be in heaven, and we look at some of them. We complete our discussion by noting what John said about Christians who sin and what to do about that so their heavenly journey will not be prevented.
