  • Don't Punt to Gio Ep. 17: UNC 24, SCAR 20 and Week 1
Don’t Punt to Gio is back, for the first time as a podcast about a 1-0 football team. Jacob Cowden (@jacobcowden28) joins host Chad Floyd (@Chad_Floyd) to talk about the Tar Heels’ 24-20 win for about 20 minutes, and the guys go around the globe and talk about what else they saw in college football after the break.
    First Half:
Was Carolina’s defense a Jay Bateman success, a Jake Bentley problem, or both? The Heels dialed everything up in the second half, almost as if a smart coaching staff was letting them get settled in and coaching intelligently? Chazz Surratt appreciation, and plenty of room for growth. The running backs and the offensive line made both podcasters really happy.Sam Howell’s first time out: things to clean up, but rave reviews.Special teams (insert gritting teeth emoji)The Heels won a Power 5 opener for the first time since almost any current college football player was born, let’s celebrate damnit! Second Half:
Jacob was on the scene for Utah/BYU.Oregon/Auburn: Bo Nix? Auburn luck? Or Oregon wearing down in the trenches? Duke/Alabama: it happened! A quick run through the ACC games, most of which Chad missed.Week 1 superlatives! You found us, now don’t lose us! Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts, leave us a 5-star review here so Chad can read it on air and make a fool of himself.

  • Don't Punt to Gio Ep. 15: Chopping it up with Michael Felder
Why have we posted four episodes of Don’t Punt to Gio in the past week?
Because when Michael Felder (@InTheBleachers) of StadiumTV (@WatchStadium) is available for 45 minutes on a Friday afternoon right on the precipice of college football season, you make it happen.
Felder, for those uninitiated, is an absolute must-follow during college football season. He’s extremely insightful, interactive and blunt while live-tweeting whatever he’s watching. If you catch him outside college football season? Hilarity ensues.
He was also a walk-on defensive back for Carolina from 2003-2007. We talked about that experience, the highs and lows, and, of course, our weekly drinking schedules as Carolina students.
From there, we jumped into Carolina’s schedule, where he dispelled some of our preconceived notions (is Georgia Tech going to be better than we thought?) and closed it out with some spicy takes for the 2019 football season.
This was a fun interview, and I really hope you enjoy it. For more like this, jump on your podcast platform of choice, download, subscribe, leave a glowing review...it helps us pitch taking people’s time (when they’re not as gracious as today’s guest) to join us.

  • Don't Punt to Gio Ep 14: Take Me Home, Coastal Roads
Host Chad Floyd and faithful partner on the journey throughout the P5, Jacob Cowden (@Chad_Floyd and @jacobcowden28, respectively, they’re both worth a follow!) finished their transcontinental preview series with the division they know best: the ACC Coastal!
    Discussed:
Year 1 under Manny Diaz at Miami. Is Jarran Williams the answer they need at QB to propel them back to Charlotte and beyond? That defense is nasty.Virginia: can they complete the ACC Coastal circle of suck, becoming the 7th team in 7 years to represent the division in the ACC Championship game?Prayers up for the tire fire to continue raging in Blacksburg.Pitt’s identity crisis.Year zero for Geoff Collins at Georgia Tech, henceforth known as #WaffleHouseUChad’s hot take on a MAJOR upset on Duke’s schedule.A little bit on the reason you’re reading this blurb, the North Carolina Tar Heels.

  • Don't Punt to Gio Ep. 13: Touring the ACC Atlantic
    Momma we made it!
After a six-week whirlwind of previewing college football conferences around the country, host Chad Floyd (@Chad_Floyd) and willing co-pilot Jacob Cowden (@jacobcowden28) have made it back to Bojangles country.
Its time to talk ACC Atlantic.
Despite there being no actual plan on how to go through the teams (Chad totally almost forgot Florida State, I’ll retweet you if you catch it), the guys brought some analysis on the ACC’s other division.
Louisville and Scott Satterfield: it can’t be as bad as last year, can it? Boston College: what now, as their defense is no longer elite? Syracuse: the Dino Babers/Andre Cisco mancrush segmentWhat to make of Wake? Is year two really the time to have strong opinions on Willie Taggart? Can you turn around the worst offensive line of this century (stats back this up) in one year?State.Clemson: agree or disagree that this is the best assemblage of offensive talent since the 2004-05 USC team? (The hosts share the same opinion on the matter.)We really hope you enjoy, and we also hope you subscribe and leave a five-star review on your podcast feed of choice!
    Til next time, Go Heels!

  • What in Tar Nation Ep. 2: Sam Howell as the starting quarterback, Late Night With Roy & Clemson weekend in Chapel Hill
In our latest episode of the “What in Tar Nation” podcast, Brandon Anderson joins me to discuss points of interest such as:
Sam Howell getting reps with the first team and the likelihood that he’ll be the starting quarterback for the team’s first game against South CarolinaLate Night With Roy being announced for September 27th, the same weekend as the game against Clemson, and how it’ll be a hot bed for recruiting for both coachesExpectations running wild in both directions for Cole Anthony. Will he be better than Coby? Are people being needlessly down on him, or is that just the nature of freshmen point guards?KJ Smith being the newest recipient of a scholarship from Roy Williams

Don’t Punt to Gio is BACK, as Chad Floyd (@Chad_Floyd) is joined by Jake Lawrence (@therealestRJL) to break down the 2019 Carolina roster.
    Discussed are the following:
The utilization of the three QB’s despite today’s Howell news;Inexperience and upside in the receiving corps; An offensive line with a concerning amount of moving parts;Three good running backs, representing the only thing in which we’re confident;Breaking down questions about the defense, and the importance of Aaron Crawford and Jason Strowbridge.
