What is baptism? This week, Brian Barr explained the significance of the practice of baptism, as we celebrated baptizing 21 people over the weekend! In the great commission, Jesus commands that we make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The first step of becoming a disciple of Jesus is baptism. Many people think they need to wait until they "get good at being a Christian" before being baptized, but that misses the meaning of this practice. Baptism is an acknowledgment of our sinful state before God. It shows our need for the Savior He has provided - Jesus Christ. It is a step of obedience that visibly portrays the invisible reality that we have been rescued from sin and death by Jesus alone.
